This app, unfortunately, has a lot of showstopper bugs that haven't been resolved. Sometimes it crashes before you've even opened a book. Other times, it lags, and if you can actually get a book open, the reading experience is terrible and seems like it wasn't designed for human beings. Very infrequently updated as well. Hopefully the company can dedicate more resources to the app in the future.
A truly horrible user experience all around. I can excuse this not being Kindle but every time you open the app it can't even remember what page you were on, that is the most basic of basic features. Along with the constant crashing, shocking lag when changing pages, and a truly hideous UI, I can't possibly recommend this app. A lot of this does feel fixable, and maybe it will be someday, but for now, it's a no.
I'm surprised the app rated as highly as it did. It's useless for me. The pages jump around at random. Sometimes only a white screen shows. The table of contents never displays. The slider at the bottom doesn't work. There are many other problems as well. Books are encrypted and cannot be ported to a more usable format. Do not buy books through mymustreads.
This app will drive you to insanity. The worst reading app I've used, and one of the worst apps I've ever seen, period. Slow and buggy; refuses to reload after being suspended; doesn't use standard ebook formats; no contextual dictionary; unusable footnote/endnote interface; loses your place; doesn't let you select text; the list goes on and on. I want to support local bookstores instead of Amazon, but not if it means having to use this app.
I really wish this app worked so that I could support indie booksellers on a digital platform. It has so many issues, though, including: full brightness (much brighter than my phone settings) with no way to adjust, half the time when I open it it freezes on a bright white screen, it regularly forgets my place, it takes about 2 minutes to actually open the book (you have to go through two or three screens each time), and then it randomly crashes. Not great!
This app is, sadly, fairly garbage. I made the mistake of going back to the introduction of the book I was reading to double-check something, but I didn't leave a bookmark as I usually on apps that sync the last page...or at least have page numbers or search function...had to spend 10+ minutes scrolling back through a third of the book to find my place (pro tip: make the font as small as possible to speed up the process). The screen also remains perpetually bright no matter what settings I try.
This app is nearly useless. It doesn't automatically save your place, you have to add a bookmark before you leave and then select that bookmark when you open it again. It returns to the default font size, too, meaning your bookmark isn't even in the same place. The screen is extremely dim if you have any sort of light nearby, and I haven't found a setting to change that in-app. There are literally no app settings other than your login and to link to FB or Twitter (not even Goodreads!).
I'd give less than one star if possible. This is unusable. Even though I've downloaded all chapters to my phone - to start one or skip to others can take 3-5 minutes. It also randomly stops for no reason, and when I try tobstart it again, yes, it takes minutes to start and it's lost where it was. There are pieces of audio missing from the end of chapters entirely. In short, this should not have been released and is unusable.
I wouldn't accept a free book that required using this app, at least unless the app developers made significant change to the user experience. I had to reinstall the app twice in order to finish a book. There's no highlighting function. I couldn't read outdoors using this app because, unlike all other apps on my phone, this one would turn the brightness way down to the point that it was unreadable.
No search function? The advantages of an e-book are the search functions, book marking, sharing and exporting of notes. Where are all these capabilities? I want to support independent bookstores by purchasing ebooks, and send part of the proceeds to those and brick and mortar establishments. This is frustrating. I purchased this book to benefit a shop in Detroit, and I would not want to rescind that support (even if it is a small amount of money). This app is terrible!
This is genuinely the worst app I've ever been forced to use. Fails to save your place, page controls often don't work, brightness controls are messed up, can't search, can't copy a word to look it up, just fails in every imaginable way. I'll be attempting to get a refund on the book I bought because I truly can't get through it on this garbage app. I can only assume there's a single overworked developer assigned to this, and that's why the most basic features are broken.
I'm going to keep using this app to support my local bookstore. But it does not save the page where you left off! I'm lucky it tells says the chapter you were on, however, it reloads to the title page each time. And don't even try clicking on a footnote. It'll loose your spot and you have to figure out again where you left off.
On closing and reopening app, doesn't create a bookmark, open to it, and delete it... so, like other reviews, I end up on the cover of whatever book every time I reopen. Dang, this is open-source functionality, and basic. To be fair, the rest of the app is no-frills functional, more or less. I bought one of the developers' other apps to combat the relative lack of investment. If we want Indy to work in the digital space, we need to participate. I wish there were other ways.
Vastly disappointing. It doesn't come back to where you were reading when you go back in. The bookmarking of places you'd like to back to is a joke. The only way I can think to even come close to bookmarking realistically is to make the type as big as possible so the bookmarked word is very close to the word the app chooses. I hate to support amazon but this app makes reading a torturous activity.
App loads the title page but swiping left will not advance to the next page. To leave the title page I had to locate the table of contents and select a different section. Now as I try to read I have a progress bar at the bottom of my screen covering the last line of text on each page. That's two basic obvious flaws in the first minute.
I love the idea of this app, but I'm struggling to use it. I can't read my current book: just the first page of each chapter. Turning the page shows the same page again, until the beginning of the next chapter. I read one book with no trouble, and one with only minor navigational issues.
I love the idea of having an alternative to Kindle that supports indie bookshops, but sadly this app just doesn't work. Crashes constantly, doesn't save your place, reading experience is buggy and even the book cover doesn't fit on one page. Disappointed that I'm left without a way to read the book I bought because the app is just completely unusable.
I installed this app and downloaded a book on it. Everything looks fine unless whenever I open the book, it is null! Even I can read the titles of each chapter but there is only white pages.
Just day 2 with the app, worst one of all. Will not allow login, when it does, there's no navigation allowed from initial screen. I've uninstalled -reinstalled, tried all the workarounds. No way to get help. Terrible way to loose business publishers!!!
Needs serious work. This app needs to be fixed, even when i bookmark a page when i come back to it the next day i have to thumb through the pages from page1 to find where i left off. Also it doesnt show chapters just sections i.e. section 1,2...(although that may just be the book but it would help find my place if there were chapters. Also pages stick and are hard to turn.
The worst e-reading app. Buggy and regularly closes out. While reading books even on night mode it increases the brightness which is painful. Never saves place, doesn't indicate page numbers or allow more than the most basic format adjustment. Worst of all it has some terrible proprietary DRM so it's impossible to buy ebooks on a storefront here and read them using a different app. I wanted to support independent bookstores but had to get another (epub) copy because this app is unusable.
Clunky navigation when I was actually able to use the app. Now when I open it there is just a white screen. I want to support local bookstores, but the titles I purchased for use with this app are useless to me if I can't actually access them.
App does not work. Lots of folks complain about not saving a spot, I'd like to just be able to read. App will not advance page. Just reloads the same page. Getting past the title page is excruciating, and if you get to the actual book, it's just the company logo.
Unusable. Got a free e-book for signing up to do a workshop. Awesome! Not really, because I can't read it. Tried in windows 10 via chrome and it was painfully slow to page turn or use the TOC. I'm talking like a minute to page turn, and using the TOC actually crashed chrome. So I get the app. What's new in this version? Fixed a bug where the TOC won't load in some books. Psst! Y'all didn't fix it. My book loads to a white screen. Can't do anything. I can't fathom having paid to use this.
