My Sight Words

Kids have fun while learning to read."My Sight Words" helps pre and early readers develop their skills through a fun and kid-friendly interaction with sight words (also known as Dolch words). Control/navigation is intuitive with spoken words, audible feedback, voice recognition and three learning modes.

* User can record their own voice for word pronunciation.
* Words are spoken to help learning and pronunciation (if and when words are spoken is controlled by reader and depends on the selected learning mode)
* Speech recognition lets readers verify they are pronouncing words correctly. (Please, read the advice on how best to introduce this capability to new readers, its use, and its limitations.)
* Displays stats about the number of words remaining, hints given, correctly read words, words that needed revisiting, and word list size
* Words appear in random order to ensure recognition and prevent memorization of list
* Words are displayed in fun random colors

My kid has had trouble reading since day 1. He was tested, and we were told he's not dyslexic, but everyone could tell there was some disconnect. Practicing sight words is the very best thing for him and this app facilitates it so well. We love it.

I couldn't find my index cards and randomly decided to seek out an app like this. My primary criteria was the ability to make custom lists to match my stepson's school's Sight Words list. Downloaded, list added and ran through the whole thing with a very excited 4-year-old in less than 20 minutes. Absolutely stunning work, thank you!

UPDATE** I contacted the developer and had wonderful communication with them. They were quick to reply to my emails, address my concerns and followed up once the problem was fixed. THANK YOU! I love this app! I've loaded 5 different lists for my sons sight words and several of the words have disappeared from 3 of the lists for no reason. I can't spend the time every night to go through each list and figure out which words are missing to reload. I love this app.. when it works right

This app is great. I was on the I pad for an hour trying to find a customizable sight word app. Finally, dropped the iPad and grabbed the SamsungTab-S. IT IS GREAT to be able to upload my daughters actual sight words. 5 star all day

I absolutely love the way you can switch between so many sets of different words lists (i.e. early 1, early 2, and all the Dolch words lists). Very handy, makes it useful for a broader range of abilities. Changes I would like are 1. the "wrong" button could be a little friendlier looking - with more of an "oops" expression instead of an angry expression. 2. My son and I both thought the 3 buttons (angry, medium, and happy) meant that the one I thought was medium meant he "kind of" knew the word. Don't know how to make this more obvious. 3. I thought "reload" meant it would give you a different set of words, once you've gotten a subset of say 20 words from the main list. It doesn't, it just resets the success/fail score. I'd like an option to get a NEW set of, say, 20 words from the larger lists of 60 words. The only way I know of doing this is to reset the number of words you want to get. 4. I don't like the noises that you get when pressing the success/fail buttons. I turned sound off completely to avoid them. But at that point, you also can't get the voice to read the word. Overall - great app, I like it a lot. Thanks for writing it!

I have a six year old struggling with his sight words at school. Suppose to practice 8 to 10 minutes everyday. This is a life saver because I have 3 children all with different needs. I set the timer on my phone and set him down and have him practice. Very thankful I found this app!

I just got the app for my son. We stopped using it for an hour to charge the tablet, came back to use it and there's no sound.

Love it except I can not figure out how to turn the sound off. I even turned it off on my phone all together and it still reads every word out loud. Therefore idk if my daughter is reading them or just repeating

I cannot figure how to get rid of the words she doesn't need yet, and there's some that's not on there

My 1st grade boy loves this app. He has adhd and has had trouble reading. Making reading more like a game is perfect for him. We tried several of the sight word apps and this is by far the best.

Fantastic free app... especially for teachers to cast onto a big screen. Awesome, thank you. (Would be nice to be able to turn off the two horrible sound effects, though!)

My son loves this app and so do I, it's better than using flash cards. We also love that you can customize your own word lists

This app works great to help my daughter study her sight words. I only wish I could change/edit a list name once it's created. It would be helpful for us if I could change the name of a list once my child masters it so I can reuse the original list names.

This Is a wonderful app. My 5 year old can read on level 1 because of this app. Made it super easy for him to learn his sight words. He's a step ahead of his class cause he already know his sight words

My son who is in 1st grade has been struggling with reading. After using this app my son has improved so much with his reading. Thank you so much!

After search through numerous Sight Word apps, this one won. It does all that you might need. Controls are almost entirely easy and to get 5 star, a little more flexibility around custom made lists would be great (say, being able to combine lists) Other than that, I love it. Now, to test it out on the kids!

I type in a new list and it said the words for my child. But now it just say some of the words. And my screen don't have the mic on it. No screen not even the words already on your app. Can you please help me. I need a app that I can type my child words in and it say the words back to her. She has big words like (metaphor, proposal, hemisphere, longitude, compensation, commutative, associative, ecosystem, and organism) these are just some of her words for fourth grade. Can you please help me out.

I have enjoyed this app a lot. Every time I have to restart me tablet. I look for this specific app because I know I love it. I LOVE BEING ABLE TO TYPE IN MY OWN WORDS TO PRACTICE WITH MY KIDS?

My daughter plays with this app all the time. She's in Kindergarten and did not read before starting school. Now she is on fourth grade sight words thanks to this app. Very responsive developer, too.
