Great game. This port needs more options though. In particular, it gets really slow towards the end of long games - I don't know if this is the graphics or the AI, but it gets pretty much unplayable. Should be more options to speed the game up, like switching off all of the graphical effects. Secondly, there are only three options regarding the game length. I wish there was an option to increase game length in 5 or 10 point increments.
This game was a slow boil for me: at first it was confusing, and after that it was hard figuring out a strategy. You basically use cards to upgrade cards. But do you buy more currency? More...Erm...different currency? Or combo with helmets? It's all doable, but it takes a while to get used to it. But what you get is an absolute beautiful and unique card building game. Absolutely recommended!
Such a fantastic implementation of one of my favorite deck builders. I have no real complaints in terms of the gameplay itself. 2 stars because solo play is unusable without a "save and continue later" feature. I like to take my time when I play but this means that I need 20-30+ minutes of uninterrupted phone use or all of my progress is lost. Even the tabletop version lets me put down the cards and take a break without penalty. This seems like such a basic feature, very disappointing.
Well implemented game. Beautiful, great controls, great tutorial, great single player. I'm marking it down though because of the state of the multiplayer. In a world where Star Realms and Ascension exist, apps need to do better. I need a friends list of people I can challenge. I need to be able to open a room and walk away, so someone can join me later, and then play asynchronously. 5 star game with these features, and I'll probably never play it without them.
This game is great, very good adaptation of the board game. The graphics are very pretty (the card artwork is even animated somewhat) and the music is good. The AI seems to be fairly strong as well. I still win pretty often, but I'm a strong player so I was pretty impressed. My only complaint is the AI's turns are too long. This is true even when set to fast mode; it isn't bad in the early part of the game, but towards the end when turns start getting more complicated (and esp. if you're playing a 4-player game) it can take over a minute.
Best deck building style game I've ever played. Gorgeous art, and cheap! Roughly $6 for all expansions (they're super fun, well worth the cost!) The game can be tricky to pick up, but the lengthy tutorials do a great job of explaining everything. I bought this in conjunction with the physical game for my friends game days, and it's great to have both references, and an opportunity to polish my skills before playing with them. TLDR: fun, strategic gameplay. Beautiful graphics. Well worth!!
The game is a lot of fun. Two gripes: 1) with the AI, at hard it sometimes appears to get in an infinite loop calculating its moves effectively causing the game to crash. Usually happens when I'm actually winning, so it does seem like a bit of a "cheat". 2) Game always crashes on the end game 'results' page when calculating final scores.
Great game and one particularly suited to digital because of the card crafting element. Don't like the dark background though which doesn't seem to fit the theme of healing and regrowth. It's trying to look like combative games with armour and damage but it should be appealing to people who don't like that. And the darkness makes it harder to see. Prefer playing it on Yucata.
Thank you for the detailed release notes! They really help know when a particular issue is fixed. The game overall is amazing. Quick note about performance: The performance drops as you add more expansions at longer games though, to the point where I have to wait over a minute before the game un-freezes, and this is on a fast phone.
excellent game, really easy to play and well thought design of the app. However few downside easily fixable : 1. every time i want to play without internet connection, i cant access anymore the to last expansion that i bought. Very annoying 2. I encountered several bug while playing online. the game froze and it was impossible to play further. Me and my friend were playing in the same room, so with the same internet connection. It kind of demotivated us to play against each other
I love playing Mystic Vale, and this app has pretty much ruined playing it live. Turns go so quick, that you can play a full game in about 20 minutes. The way it plays is easy enough that if you have played the game in real life, then you should be a able to play the game rather easily. It's also nice how the game gives you a running count of how much mana you have along with the symbols to buy vale cards. And it always reminds you of there are more things that are available for purchase.
I think this is one of the most interesting and innovative digital cardgames I have ever played. The mechanics are very interesting, specially the possibility of combining advances to tune your cards. Graphics and animations are neat, the music nicely accompanies the whole thematic, and the AI is challenging enough for solo play. The learning curve was a little bit steep for me, but after a few games I managed to get the hold of it :) And yes, in case you are wondering, the expansions available are really worth it, since they further supprot the original mechanics and introduce new ones, overall giving more variety to the game.
The app faithfully recreates the board game experience and doesn't have any obvious bugs. It's well polished. Annoyingly, the app incessantly prompts to rate the game even after already rating it. Worse, once you know the cards well there is very little decision making. Winning or losing becomes almost entirely dependent on luck of the draw. Combined with a runway leader problem that sometimes leads to unfulfilling blowouts, and the game simply doesn't have much long term replay value.
Good game with ability to set up several different ways. It does have a tendency to slow down in the extended game (I'm using a tablet), and I wish the scoring at the end would be more definitive on the different levels, i.e. victory points, shield points (the difference between the blue and grey shields), spiraling, and such. My tablet is small and my eyes are bad and the graphics/font make following the running tally a bit hard to read.
Wow, what an amazingly well produced game with great presentation, UI and graphics. The little touches of animation to the individual cards is excellent and helps pull you even further into the theme. The UI is straight forward once you' know what's what and there is an excellent tutorial to explain this along with a quick reference screen. I can see myself playing this a lot on my commutes to and from work. I've installed it on my Huawei P20 Pro and Kindle Fire 10 and runs smoothly on both at high settings. Highly recommend.
Engaging, beautiful, relatively easy to learn, yet deep strategy, and intriguing, clever deck building mechanic. What a compelling game. I haven't been able to find a full rulebook in the game, only a tutorial and a "quick reference" which is almost useless in glossing over the outline of play. Can someone tell me where to find the full rule guide, or add one if it's indeed not present? That little quibble, though, is not enough to give this fantastic game/app less than 5 stars!
Fantastic game and very well implemented on the phone! Unfortunately I just had to drop my review by two stars when I reopened my game to sadly find that my progress in game wasn't saved :-( Please make this change as soon as possible, as not being able to save a game in progress is a huge negative and unfortunately will keep me from being able to play much (as it requires too long of a consistent time commitment all at once). Back to 5 stars once this feature is enabled!
Excellent, feels almost as good as the original board game. In some aspects even better (like it counts the mana for you). AI is reasonably good. The only downside is that the game is slow sometimes and I am unable to get some achievement for all tokens played. But that is minor. I have all the expansions and I will definitely buy any new that you will add in the future.
I really enjoy this game. HOWEVER. I have hand lingering issues with the app for some time. On my older tablet, the game would crash with some regularity; thankfully the most predictable time was at the end of a game. I recently got a new tablet (off brand) which I was hoping would run this game smoother. The opposite is true; the game crashes when trying to start a game. I was hoping others might have a solution, but no one else is reporting this problem. Am I cursed?
I love mystic Vale, and the app is beautiful and well designed. However, is unfortunately somewhat buggy. It freezes frequently, and while it usually starts going again before long, sometimes it stays frozen for quite a while, and occasionally the vales don't refill. it's still playable, but the performance issues are annoying.
Great implementation of an excellent game! Smooth interface, gorgeous art, really loving this one! My only minor quibble is that there is no real save state if your game gets interrupted. Edit: Marking down to 4 stars, as the game keeps freezing up during play and is unrecoverable. Edit#2: Adding that star back as the save system addresses my concern and allows continuation if the game crashes.
This is one of the best implemented apps I've played, whether it's a mobile only app or a tabletop game conversion. I like that the first update makes it easier to switch between viewing the Vale and Advancements in the market. The only complaint I have is there's no way to see the flip side of your leader card once the game starts (i.e. in game). Some of the leaders are complicated, and I want to see the benefit of the upgraded leader before spending my mana on it. - - - It would also be nice to be able to play without leaders, but still use the advancement cards from Vale of the Wild. - - - The Wayfarer Portal vale is not implemented correctly. It allows resleeving one advancement into any other card in your field. The app does not allow resleeving into a blank card, which it should.
Love the game and the interface but do NOT love the fact that the game crashes after every game finishes. Fix your bugs people....oh, and once in a while the cards just randomly float around and won't go where they're supposed to....and while I think of it, if I play all the expansions with the large pool the game will freeze....especially if the AI is winning.
Fun game with less than perfect controlls. When I'm swapping between sections of the board, I often find myself a bit lost in the layout, and accidentally purchasing cards. But cramming such a massive play area into the screen of a phone (even a note 10) is difficult at best, and the game is fun. Best of all, cheap expansion sets!
This is an excellent way to play the game. For the most part, it's an excellent app that I enjoy using. The only problem is that if you get disconnected for any reason, there's no getting back into your game. I've even lost games when I didn't get disconnected, I just went to another app for a second, e.g. when just turning off my blue light filter can cause me to lose my game. Very frustrating when you're well into a game with friends and that happens.
Great implementation of the physical game. I cant seem to invite friends to a multiplayer match but I can create a game and they can join. Clunky but it works. I took one star off because flawless multiplayer would be a 5 star game. UPDATE: I changed to 5 stars because it turns out my friend just needed to update the game to the most recent patch and now we can play online flawlessly. It does not support asynchronous play though. You both have to log in, play a game in real time and log off.
The AI in this app should be renamed the AL - artificial luck. The increasing levels of difficulty are accomplished less by the deployment of more intricate strategy than by the manipulation of the luck factor so that it favors the AL. It is difficult to follow what the AL is doing on its turn as the graphics cannot be slowed down enough. As it is, if i thought i could get my money back i would. (Though i do appre ciate the addition of the pass and play function).
This is my all time favorite deck building game and it's great to have a mobile port, but user interface is awful. The game board is all layed out horizontally instead of in a 3x3 spread. The next card or proceed buttons are really small and hard to press. And having a full screen to look at your cards and another to look at the board to buy should be an option. It would be nice to see permanent vale cards and my hand in the same place. Definitely playable but not the best experience .
Excellent implementation. l didn't like the physical version because of sleeving and unsleeving the cards all the time, and the digital version eliminates that. graphics are great, and I love the additional touch of the animation in the art. One extremely minor issue is that when the cards you could purchase are glowing, the fade out goes a little too far making it look like you couldn't buy a card you could. Again, extremely minor thing, and the fact that the cards glow at is cool.
This game can be played alone (against the AI), or be played online with other players. I love the concept of building up your cards to make a strong deck, and due to the placement of the additions, the replayability of this game is endless. Fantastic electronic adaptation of a tabletop game.
