'Mostly just headlines and ads. Even worse though, when you click back after reading an article if there ever is one other than a headline, it goes back to the very top of the 1st page of the app instead where in line the article was placed in the list!! You are forced to scroll all the way down EVERY time. Poor programming, not well thought out. I'll get my news elsewhere.
Every time I finish reading an article and use the back arrow to go back to the main page the application returns to the first headline. It should be fixed to work like other news apps where it returns to where you left off in the list so you don't have to scroll down back to where you were previously to continue reviewing the headlines. This behaviour is very annoying and I don't use the app very much as a result.
Although the stability is better, this app is currently providing full page pop up adds with sound, which is extremely inappropriate on a news app. People read news in public places where the don't want to make noise, so adding adds without an ability to mute by default means I can't really use this app anymore. Ads should never use more data than the article, and yet you always have full colour ads, and now have video ads. It's simply not appropriate for a news app to be that much of a data hog
Your app isn't working. I click on links and there is no story just the photo. Been happening a lot lately and forces me to use other news apps. Even worse, I tried emailing you via the support link and it bounced back as the email is invalid forcing me to post on the play store. Just brutal.
Great user experience! No trouble updating the app, videos play smoothly and without interruption. Engaging or interesting stories are always highlighted larger than older news, but all stories are presented with relevant information in an 'want to read' fashion.
I don't understand why all the complaints of this app? I've used it for years on my Samsung tablet and cell. Never had any issues, mind u, I don't watch news vids. Works well. It's my go to news source for reliable reporting with in depth analysis which is hard to find in Canada? Especially compared to flaky propaganda from CBC . This app is great !!
Sub-standard app. Very limited news items and only some of them only provide the headline and no story to go along with it. They need to try harder if they want anybody to subscribe. Alot harder!
The content is very good but the app itself consumes enormous amount of data, I just read it during my morning commute and half of the data I use on my phone is used by this app. I use other news apps but non of them comes even remotely close in data consumption. Something is really wrong with this app design
I also have the paper delivered to my office. unfortunately i find that the electronic version is easier as it is always with me. Nothing beats having a real paper under your arm! This paper tells it how it is and although conservative leaning knows how to call a spade a spade. Reading the news is a great way to reach out into the world, television is bent on keeping you attention, not the subject matter. That k you post for making your paper and fantastic writing easily accessible.
Love the fact that your app is capable of syncing to my dark mode automatically (can't use your competitor's app at night)! May not necessarily agree with your point of view, but it is certainly thought provoking! Keep it up 👍
App needs a lot of work. I expected that by paying for a subscription I would get better functionality, but that is not the case. Too much advertising and not enough current content. It has potential but potential on its own is worth nothing.
Doesn't work - you just get a white screen now when you try to use it. I've had it for years and worked fine, now it won't. Have uninstalled and re-installed etc like others, but looks like it's completely broken now.
This app broke about a week ago. I too am experiencing a blank white page. I tried rebooting my phone then did a Re & Re and neither solved the problem. I tried another NP app only to find that within the app that I installed and logged into with my NP account info, I had to download anything that I wanted to read...but not before agreeing to a $1.99 charge. Not having any of that so I uninstalled that app, too. Goodbye NP, I'm gonna miss reading good news reporting as well as the NP opinions.😓
Used to be great, but they have now added full screen video adds that play before you can even launch the app. Unfortunately forced video adds are a major deal breaker.
Used to be great. In the last week the app no longer loads. Tried Uninstaller and reinstalling twice. All software is up to date. Restarted several times over. No luck. The Financial Post app. a sister still workers fine.
Finally, ACTUAL news!! Excellent source of news with an objective, and mostly non-mainstream angle that will drive liberals crazy who will label it as "misinformation" because it doesn't publish leftist propaganda like all the other news agencies (ie: CBC, CNN, etc.). 100% recommend if you live in the real world (or want to).
Why is it worse than reading in a browser? I'm a subscriber and there's pretty limited content and functions compared to the online version. I would have thought it would be significantly better to use the actual app designed specifically for the paper... Instead there's barely anything to look at.
Since about mid-October 2020, this app does not refresh the Full Comment section on any of my mobile devices. These are 2 android phones, an android tablet and an Apple tablet. Curiously, it does refresh on my Windows 10 laptop. It is not easy to get NP to pay attention when you write them about a problem like this that is obviously something on their end.
This was a good app until a few weeks ago. Now the “FULL COMMENT“ section shows nothing newer than Oct. 23... Addendum: I guess someone is paying attention, it's fixed now. As for a fuller review, I especially like that this app can be used largely offline, at least for reading the comments section.
in the print issue, the National Post is a pretty good news paper. sadly the online version is sadly lacking , specifically I really enjoy reading columnist Diane Francis point of view, which is always in the FP section of the printed National Post, and at one time was on the National Post app, now, her column is never available online! hey guys please fix it!
App was clunky before, and not sure what updated (phone or NP app) but now is basically unusable. Get the "App not Responding" error 4 times with 30sec delay in between before getting to see the news. After returning from an article, app stalls again.
Could be a great source of news, etc; if it worked properly. Now, as previously mentioned, the app doesn't open at all. The developer doesn't seem to care since I don't notice any response to any of these concerns! Hopefully a fix is coming?
Main page defaults to top of the page rather than the last article clicked on, and half the time I need to view an article on their website because it won't show any text when I click on an article
Horribly one-sided. I read an article, with a plethora of details taken out of context. If click bait news is a function of the app and that's what you're after then this hot piece of trash would get 5 stars. As the customers of this publication we should not allow financial agenda to distort quality of journalism.
This crappy app won't let you adjust text size, so unless you like reading your morning paper with a magnifying glass, don't bother. I will be canceling my National Post subscription over this issue.
Content on the app is so limited that it's pretty much useless. G&M app and WSJ apps, by comparison, are fantastic. Too bad. NP is a good paper.
I like National Post and want to read them but their app has problems they need to fix! I click on articles and nothing... just blank and then freezes there.
Used to be a really great app with free content, but recently there was an update that has seriously compromised it. When you finish reading an article and click the back button, it returns you to the very top of the stories list. Please correct this so I don't continuously lose my place. I do enjoy the new dark mode and the content is reliably good! There is also an issue where you click on some stories but all you get is the headline and an ad, but no other content. Hope they fix it!
