The app used to be good. Now my travel section is awful. Why do I need two or three Cambridge to/from all stations for example! It clogs up the my travel section. And serves no useful purpose. Type in one station for one journey and it appears there ad infinitum. Can't delete if I wish. I work for a train company and this app has become so user unfriendly. Sort it out or many if us will start to use a different application.
2022 - 3 years from original review and NO change. I used to use the app some time ago fine but just tried to use it again and still find it a complete mystery just trying to purchase a ticket. Is full of adverts which distract and something that should be the simplest of tasks... and allow the app to get its revenue.... buying a ticket is not user friendly in the slightest. Spent another 20 mins and gave up. Back to the drawing board. Back to Internet browser
Can't buy a ticket on it because the overlay blocks being able to put in my details when I try to pay via paypal. A lot of unnecessary steps when trying to buy too. Used to love this app but it really needs some investment.
Just downloaded the app to try and plan a journey for next month. Found the tickets, timings, change details and fare options and stuff but can't pay. Really annoying. Apparently a waste of time.
Works fine on my Samsung Galaxy S9 phone however an indifferent experience on my Samsung Tab A tablet. Calendar for Journey Planner initially does not show the actual dates for the immediate month and the times laid out are in a haphazard layout whenever you do get it to work. Not impressed!
This is 2022 and for years the national rail mobile app is useless, out of date and old fashioned. You put in your times for travel and it gives you a completely incorrect route and times. The prices are also very high. This isn't anything new been like this for years
Latest version is hugely unstable and interface has been made worse. Quicker and easier to just use mobile site and book tickets through your provider of choice (ticket booking on latest versions have never worked) Can set home station, but doesn't select by default, similarly non work favourite stations are almost impossible to get to.
Can't seem to see dates more than a week in advance and when I try to book a ticket the app for a date 2 weeks in advance - I guessed which day of the week my travel date was for - then the National Travel Enquiries App refused to go any further than 'do you wish to set an alert'. Baffled!
I can see why it's such a low rating - I turned on geolocation so the app has designated my home station as the closest one to me, and there is mo way I can choose the actual station I am most likely to use. Total rubbish and a waste of data. And they appear to be offering a paid for version hahahahahaha
Ongoing fault with app preventing purchase of tickets. Everytime buy now is selected it shows an offline error despite that not being the case. Been reported in multiple other reviews and I've been experiencing it for 2months at least. Still no fix brought out. Please sort asap
I need to know whether a train I'm due to take later today from London to Manchester are running after Storm Eunice but because right now I'm in France and I opted for géolocalisation it tells me that no stations are available. A waste of time so I'm immediately going to uninstall it. (I can't believe that 30 years after privatisation, it's still so complicated to get live information about train lines in UK. Maybe if you live in UK, you're just used to it being so complicated.)
Absolute rubbish since the update. There's no button to select the journey and then progress to pick the return times. Utter, utter trash.
When selecting time of train the app consistently loads the wrong times and skips around so you can't find the actual train you need. You can't rely on this app for so I've had to use an alternative.
Wish I could give it zero stars. Absolutely disgraceful app which almost forces you in the direction of having to upgrade and purchase for £4.99 in order to have basic use. So disappointed.
Poor app. Only use for it work as I work in rail but its slow and useless. Very disappointed to say its ran by network rail. Would give zero stars but it doesn't allow you to.
Constantly displays incorrect information for train timetables. Unable to purchase tickets through the app. Very high chance of missing your train because of this app due to poor user interface and misinformation
Really bad app. Tried multiple times to remove travel and delay alerts while I'm working from home and I continue to get daily notifications of delays. Uninstalling.
This app used to work just fine. Now it is a disgrace. It crashes, doesn't load and it makes it impossible to buy a ticket. Actually zero stars... FIX IT!!
Not fixed after several weeks, & still saying I'm offline when I'm try to buy tickets, and I'm definitely not! Dreadful service! I've now aken It down to 1 star. You would think they'd need the custom and would fix this
Extremely disappointing with this app. Before i was very happy with. I recently got a new mojile and i was able to have my journey and its destination fixed. So now the other train stations it goes to even though its fixed.
This app really winds me up! Every time a screen opens and I press an option, the screen shifts down to accommodate the adverts which means I end up clicking on something I had not intended! The timing is perfect to guarantee this happens every time. Why not just leave enough space for the advert in the first place??? It also times out too quickly so that if you switch apps after just a few minutes you can continue where you left off! Come on guys, these are very easy problem to fix!
The perfect companion app for Britain's railways, since it is either unreliable or doesn't work at all (including popping random "app has stopped working" messages on screen at unexpected times). I would uninstall it, but there isn't much choice and I keep hoping it will get better so I keep using it (again, like the UK's railways). The widget hasn't worked for so long I suspect it is steam-driven and is waiting for a coal delivery. In short, buy a car or go by bike so you don't have to use it!
The app itself is very useful, and I get that it has to have adverts, not a problem. But, why the 1 second delay in displaying the advert? The number of times I've pressed on the wrong thing, due to the screen suddenly shifting downwards, for the advert to appear at the top, is ridiculous. Why not set the screen so there is space for the advert to appear, even if it hasn't had chance to load yet? Simply no reason for screens to be jumping around as you're about to press on an item.
I use it for checking train times and whether there are delays and it does that well, but there is one irritation: there's a small advert at the top of the train times etc. that takes about a second to load, and the page shifts down a finger's width when it does. This means that I regularly end up selecting the wrong item in a list. So, generally it's a good app but can be annoying to use.
Great UX design (/s), you know when it takes that extra second to load in the silly advert at the top of the page, causing you to click it when you are attempting to enter the departure station. How frustrating. I don't understand why this needs to be ad-supported, especially with the rail fares as they are already extortionate. As a software developer, and as the data is freely accessible I will be making my own app with the exact same layout as this one but with no adverts. Sure it probably won't be as good but at least it will be free to see when my delayed train is cancelled for no reason. Take a good hard look at yourselves and think, is this really what you want to be doing with your life? Get rid of the adverts and offer it ad free.
Doesn't work. I used it to pin a widget to my home screen for my commute, but it never shows any data and if I try to refresh it, after a very long delay, it reports there are no trains between the stations I have chosen even though there are. So basically, it doesn't work. The main App is pretty horrible and fill of adverts. I thought the windows phone version of national rail was bad, but this is even worse.
Disappointing. Confusing and difficult to use, even for someone who regularly uses trains. Even Google maps is better to plan a rail journey. For example planning a trip from a South Eastern station to Custom House DLR comes up with no available routes, even though one can get in to a overground rail station and use the Underground and DLR to reach it. Keeps asking me to review, but never appears to improve.
