This app is superb. I'm currently learning celestial navigation as a backup skill at sea for times when GPS can't always be relied upon. This app is excellent for checking my calculations quick and easily. I've just paid for the GPS facility as well to support the developer. Thanks for a very well produced app.

Good job! Makes celestial navigation simple! This app gets your position using Saint-Hilaire's Intercept method. It uses built-in data that appears to agree with the published Nautical Almanac and a Sight Reduction routine to get the angle-up to a celestial body as well as the true compass bearing to it from a selected lat/long near your estimated position. Doing this for two different nearby selected lat/long positions along with a sextant sighting of that celestial body and noting the time will give the distances between the selected positions and estimated position since a difference in angle equals a difference in distance. These two distances along with the selected lat/longs are used to get your true position.

it is a must app for a mariner. helped me a lot with compass error and other stuff. Difficult to understand the mag. variation part as the annual change doesn't mentions E or W, while looking at present Mag. Variation with reference to annual change and refered mag var. year doesn't make any sense. Please look into that part. Already mailed you about that part and no reply yet.

I just installed this as a sanity check on my calculations using table lookups for a class on celestial navigation. This is so much easier and more practical for real world navigation vs trying to deal with all of the lookups in 229 and nautical almanacs. I am impressed!

It's really good app but some time the variation is showing diffrent then what we have on charts other then that it works like a charm .. it's really helpful

I've been using this app for 2 years. I'ts very useful and convinient. But lately the app closes every time I open the compass error. That's why I'm giving it a 3 star rating. If you could fix this i'll give 5 stars

Just perfect for your daily compass error checks pretty accurate with the magnetic variations, don't forget to update it to the latest version.

Great apps for gyro error and compass deviation calculations including star finder and identifier..Variations are already calculated which comes more convenient..Have shared this already and got same positive reaction..More power to the developer and wishing your team to develop more simple yet friendly and efficient..

I need a tutorial on the Compass Error function. For example, I don't have a Gyrocompass--what do I put in for that field? How do I interpret "Error"? I will take the bearing of the sun via the shadow pin on my compass. Etc. If I put 000 for "Ship's Heading/Gyro", and the sun's bearing (taken from the shadow pin +/- 180) in as "Ship's Heading/Standard", and the almanac bearing for the sun under "True", and 000 for "Bearing/Gyro" I get a Deviation that looks about right. But is this how it should be done?

Exvellent app. I'm a daily user. The paid version is too damn expensive, so reducing 1 star. Please consider reducing the full version price.

Great been using it for a year now occassionally has problem with picking up GPS signal but that is probably my phone.

It's great and everything but, when I go to extras, the app crashes. I don't know why.
