NEO Scavenger

Play the acclaimed PC survival RPG on your tablet and smartphone! (Free unlimited time demo with IAP to unlock full version. Note that only full version can save progress.)

NEO Scavenger is a game where you must survive in the wasteland long enough to figure out who you are. Each turn, you must decide where to go, how to scavenge for supplies, and how to deal with anything and anyone you encounter. And with each passing minute, the pit in your stomach grows, your dehydration worsens, your muscles tire, and your body temperature drops in the cold autumn air. Choose your starting abilities carefully, because they and your wit are the only tools you have in the apocalypse!

FEATURES:

Unique Setting - Near-future, post-apocalyptic Michigan with local cryptids and folklore. And something else beneath the surface...

Turn-Based Play - Take your time with each turn, and play at your own pace. Save and quit when you want, and resume later.

No Grinding - There are no XP in NEO Scavenger. No levelling-up. Instead, progress comes from learning how to play the game better, and using your strengths to your advantage.

Semi-Random - Much of the map is randomized each game, including the location of ruins, creatures, weather, and certain quest branches.

Sandbox or Story - Search for clues to your identity, what happened, and who's hunting you. Or simply test your mettle against man and nature alike. Play how you want!

Abilities and Flaws - Choose abilities and flaws each time you play. Different combos unlock different abilities and quest branches.

Crafting - Extensive crafting system which allows for substitutions of similar items. Make a rifle scope from half a pair of binoculars, or a noise trap from a pill bottle and pebbles.

Desperate Combat - Detailed combat with moves like "Tackle," "Lure," "Kick While Down," "Demand Surrender," and "Threaten."

Realistic Wounds - Creatures have complex wound simulation, with multiple wound locations, infection, bleeding, and pain management.

Realistic Metabolism - Hypothermia, fatigue, thirst, hunger, disease, intoxication, shelter...everything is tracked.

Realistic Inventory - Complex inventory system with slots for holding, wearing, containers, and more. Fit items in grid spaces, and manage encumbrance.

Hex-Based World Map - Navigate ruins, hills, forests, and plains in a hex-based map. Line-of-sight, elevation, and daylight matters.

Tracking - Creatures leave their tracks and spoor on the map, which can be followed by others. Players can also hide their tracks.

Hiding - Players can use hiding to avoid being seen while traveling the map, as well as during story encounters.

Hunting - Trap small game for food and fur, or track and kill larger prey on the map for butchering.

Foraging - Search for edible plants and water, and use special skills to identify what's safe to eat.

Creature AI - Wandering creatures go about their own business, hunting, scavenging, and hoarding. Morale affects their choices, and some will gang-up and cause trouble.

Dynamic Weather - Temperature, rainfall, and night/day are based on real-world data for autumn in the area. If you live long enough, you may see snow fall.

FULL VERSION ADDS:

Save System - Save progress between sessions. However, if you die, that's it. NEO Scavenger is balanced around a single difficulty level: permadeath. Save games will be deleted if you die. So choose every action carefully!

Haunting Soundtrack - Music composed by Josh Culler, specifically for NEO Scavenger, plays periodically, lending an atmosphere of loneliness and desperation.

Hacking - Use hacking skills to unlock scavenged laptops, cellphones, smartphones, and tablets. Mine them for paydata, or snoop through personal files.

Detroit - Take refuge from the wasteland in one of mankind's last bastions of safety. Buy supplies, get medical care, and seek clues in a cyberpunk-styled city.

More items, crafting, creatures, encounters, and a larger map.

Amazing! I never played NS before this port but it's great! If I had anything to request, it'd be some mobile options like the ability to short press to examine/long press to move (reverse of current option) and make it so that when pressing an item to see it's options, not have it press whichever option your finger is on when bringing up the menu. Perhaps a small P.I.P. when moving items to better see where you're "cursor" is.

It's decent, I like the mechanics. The inventory management is very unintuitive though, and you can get stuck with an item being multiple centimeters over your finger, sometimes even outside of the screen. There's also no way to save your progress, so you have to start again every time you reopen the app. Otherwise I like it. Multiplayer would be really cool, but I do realise that that might be very hard to implement well with the turn-based system.

It's a great game to be sure. It's just that it's riddled with bugs. Bandages on your person are often offset, the same thing often happens in the crafting screen. My game crashed when trying to pick up some used arrows. And now it seems that my character is locked in unconsciousness for no reason. I really hope this gets gets fixed but my hopes are low considering the last update was almost 2 years ago now.

Its an amazing game. I've literally put hours in one sitting. This is one of the few games I actually crave to play. it's kinda glitchy, but great. It doesn't hold your hand and throws you in the thick of it. I've died so many times, only to wanna do better the next. BUT I would like a few more additions to the game. For example maybe some armor items. Not anything crazy, but maybe a more realistic approach to armor. Decrease damage you take and what not. Anyways love the game! do recommend!

I love this game on PC, so I wanted to be able to play it wherever I went. I bought the full game, and....well, I am honestly disappointed. The touchscreen interface is screwed. If you pick up one item, and switch with another, good luck trying to figure out how to set it down in the inventory screen---where the item boxes are vs where you tap is completely off-sync. Add the fact that this has been an issue for four years, and there has been no developer support in all that time... Just sad.

very detailed, big difference from demo! navigating the UI on a phone can be tricky, but once I got used to it I didn't have any problems. Not just some cheap phone game, this is a full fledged game you can buy on PC. This is a great game, I love the amount of detail/content in this game (such as; a million crafting recipes, tons of random events and a bunch of different play styles) The whole game feels like a lot of love was put into it. Defintely worth the price!

I absolutely LOVE this game on PC, though it is incredibly frustrating. But the interface is complected and a bit uninuative even on there with a mouse and a whole screen. No complaints when you're playing there, because the game has a retro, old PC feel that making the UI more slick would ruin. But on a small phone, it's impossible to be able to see and control everything you need without an interface update.

The game itself it great and deserves four stars however the mobile version is unstable. Last two games I played I got several hours in and it crashed with a corrupt save game. Also interface is very fiddly on a small mobile screen but you can get used to it with a bit of patience and zooming into the tiles. Recommend using with a pen if you have one (I use a Samsung Note). Tablet would also be good. Overall, the PC version seems much better and more stable and I would recommend.

As I person who loves scavenger games, I absolutely adore this game. I'm greatly invested and constantly eager to play every chance I get. I purchased the game on Steam (which I have +100 hours on) and can confidently say that this game is definetly worth its price. However, the reason I gave it a 4 star rating simply has to do with the user interface on the mobile app. There are just some poor controls that make the game a little annoying to play, but otherwise, it is an amazing time-passer.

I'm assuming the reason you get kicked from the game out of nowhere is because this game isn't updated and it is probably a bug. Plus you can't save where you left off (but for me, I usually play until I die ig), which makes it frustrating. Oddly enough, it happens around 3 hours of playing. I recommend you to play this game on PC instead, like, really. It's smooth there and there's so much more to venture into. I love this game. It's very hard to stop playing when you know how it works.

All around a solid survival game, and one of the most in-depth ones without a gimmicky "idle game" feel. The controls and UI can be a little finicky, but inventory management & scavenging is fun and thought provoking, unlike other games where you can carry a truck load of items. Great game overall, definitely one of my faves now!

A very detailed, fun gem of a game. I never thought I'd love a text and hex based game but this game is different. I bought the game within 2 days of playing. I do admit, when playing the demo, the controls are a little wonky at times but the Full version gameplay is more refinned and polished. Playing the demo is like only playing 1/8 of the game. Just buy the full version if you like it, you won't regret it!

This game is AMAZING. Very accurate and the fighting and healing is very realistic. But it's also really hard. I haven't been playing for too long and I still find it REALLY hard. I wish you could like remove hunger or tiredness at start of game. Like cheats or something to make it more enjoyable. Or add a difficulty selector. Thx for the great game!!

I think this game is GREAT! I play it on my PC and want it for mobile too but after purchase of full version, it did not register in the game. I hope I can find a way to fix it. Edit: I fixed it literally right after this review. I just had to reinstall it. Edit edit: It works sometimes, but other times it doesnt. Still great game!

After a STEEP LEARNING CURVE, and I am still learning after 20 hours on a mobile game port. After I had died 15 times in the first 7 days. (Maybe attaching a keyboard and a chrome cast for a larger screen and laying the MUCH more effective commands). Once you understand you are playing what presumably is not a warlord, so, don't fight if you aren't willing to die, run. What a JOY to see one of the best survival simulations on PC and doing a great job porting. I feel bad for whoever

It seems like it could be a good game, but the controls are so frustrating. You try and click on an item and it zooms, the item grids shuffle, etc. You can't click on the buttons along the top: main menu, known recipes, etc. **Found this on CPU on steam, better to buy it there and play it.

I have this in both PC and Android and the android version is the one I end up playing the most as im always away from my pc. It makes abgreat mobile game, and the devs put out decent updates and hotfixes. The only reason I didnt give it 5 stars is because the inventory menus are close to impossible to navigate when the whole thing is full. It becomes quite frustrating. Otherwise a great port to Android. 9/10

i consider this one of the most greatest and challenging games ive ever played. not much experience with the mobile version. but the pc version is fantastic. the learning curve is steep. like Escape from tarkov steep. probably one of the best indie games developed. for the people giving low star reviews who are not having bug issues. learn to play the game. its brutal and god damn rewarding once you start making progress. wendigo's, michigan dogmen and cholera have fun

Controls are horrible for mobile. Maybe ok for tablet. But this is meant to be played in the PC and I gave the game 5 for that. As for full version when exploring the city I disagree. Should at least city is available on the full version but to complete the story requires to pay. Sometimes I just find enjoyment killing people and selling loot

Esw. R. G. May 30, 2021

The game is barely decent. My major problem was some of the craftable things on pc is missing in this mobile version and also there's no save button. Like if you need to do something you can't save the game then go back afterwards, it will just return to the home screen and restart a new character.

I bought the full version of the game and it still tells me that I cant continue with my current save until I buy the full version. Not to mention a number of other issues this game gets with deleting save files out of no where. Good game, but terrible glitches I wouldnt buy it until the developer takes his time and fixes these issues.
