I've used Nest since 2019, coming up on 3 years. They've been very helpful (customer service) with all my issues, in spite of the "Google take over" (that slows down customer service exceedingly.) I appreciate the convenience of the app and so far have not had issues using it. The suggestions about the thermostat settings, I agree with...if I want to set or clear an entire week schedule, I have to do it with each day/each setting. It's a little tedious. Could use better features there.
So many great features and options, depending on what you need and how much you want to spend . Very clear, decent storage of clips to save. Our only challenge has been to reset it back up if there is a problem. I recommend saving the box your camera came in, or at least the bar code and product info numbers. There are periods of time connectivity seems to randomly drop, and it isn't my internet.
This app has potential, but the technical issues I've had since I started using it about a year ago drags it all the way down to a 1 star. The issue I've been having is that it won't load the video feed of the last notifications, and those video feeds are pretty important since I use it as a security system. So I have no idea if anyone has broken in or not until hours later when loading the feeds goes without issues. I assumed this would be fixed in time, but 1 year later and no fix.
Missing a lot of functionality which is extremely frustrating. I can't set the doorbell to only notify me ONLY when someone rings my doorbell, and not when there's motion. My household is a busy one, and I don't want to get notified each time someone steps in and out, only when I have visitors. Or only notify me at certain times, like night time. It's all or nothing notifications. It's incredibly frustrating. Same with how newer cameras aren't shown in the Nest app. Only in the Home app.
The information on how to easily use this app is hard to find. The descriptions don't clearly match how to run the app. For example how do you copy and paste days... the description isn't very clear at all. So with cryptic information and by trial and error, I have figured it out. I can now control my thermostat anywhere I have a network connection.
I only use this app to control my thermostat. It has become ridiculously laggy over the last year or so, I cannot simply make an adjustment and then leave the app. For some reason it has become necessary to leave the app open until the systems communicate, which sometimes takes a minute. Pretty poor performance for smart technology and home automation.
The app is very good all round and has alot of features. The only problem I find is every time car headlights go across my lawn the camera will detect this as a movement. Also I have to bring the zone's in a long way as not to detect the path at the front of the house. That's why I gave four stars and not 5. It is still a very good package and I am pleased with it.🙂
Thermostat and camera work. Both locks are offline more than they're online. Worked great for the first year. New batteries. Trouble shooting internet shows no errors. Phone is cleaned. I try everything for days and nothing. Then out of the blue it works for a week. We're now offline again. Camera had many issues last year as well. This entire app has reliability issues that are so irritating.
Pretty rubbish to be honest, doesn't work well on a mobile device or tablet, buttons don't seem to respond on the mobile app either. Works better on a PC, but what use is that when you're away from home? Image is pants as well, blurs quite badly when ever there is movement or a person walking by. Clears up when nothing is happening which is pointless. Shame its made out to be something it's really not.
Video takes forever to load even though everything is running on fiber, the doorbell video is pointless it will just be stuck on loading and then eventually give an error. Don't even bother trying to look back a few days prior, the video will never load. Utterly unusable, I feel terrible for buying this hardware as a gift. Edit: Do you think I haven't done those things? This has been a problem for the last year +
If you're looking for a smart thermostat I would not recommend this app. This thermostat lacks important features such as adjusting temperature band swing. It is automatically set to +/-1 which is not great for the life of your ac. It also is missing a feature to turn on the fan without turning on the cooling or heating. It's also terrible for telling the temperature. Lastly it will not notify you if your ac is having issues. All of these features are available on ecobee and prices are the same
Thoroughly enjoy this app. I can control a lot of my connected home devices in a way that isn't too simple, but isn't too complex. The idea of this getting replaced by the Google home app is concerning. The idea that Google would buy Nest and then take away a big part it's success is terribly frustrating. I hate to be that guy, but if this app's functionality is taken out by Google, I'm going to have to transition to a new smarthome ecosystem.
I only use the app for the thermostat. The app keeps saying my thermostat is offline, thought it was a wifi issue but it's not and I've tried all the troubleshooting guides. Nothing worked. It started last year but now it's just getting annoying. Happens throughout the day and oftentimes at night. The app is up to date so that's not an issue either. Maybe it's time for another update.
This app is mega confusing. I change the time on the schedule of when I want the heat to come in and it ignores it and does it's own thing. I constantly change my routine, and the smart learning can't keep up. I am hoping that when I set it to away that it isn't coming on constantly because it detected me moving when I'm leaving for holidays and it thinks I've just come back. Edit: It's still useless. I woke up at 7.15am to realise it had switched itself on but I don't get up till 9am normally.
this is Deb MacDonald, I won the doorbell back in 2017, I love it. Being able to see the front of the house anytime day or night, whether your home or away. I can zoom out. This app does have it's quirks. Sometimes the camera goes down for no reason, we have a great internet provider. I have Then my issue on my phone, the app is there but I have been unable to see the camera for over a year. When the electrician installed it, It was great. have asked help but noone has ever answered me.
I wish there were better options for using additional temperature sensors, like averaging them or setting an actual schedule instead of general time frames. I don't use the fan schedule often, but it needs more options as well. I would like to be able to set how often it should run, and not be limited to hourly. You should be able to set it to run once every one, two or three hours instead.
Great app that is easy to use. My only suggestions would be to have the ability to save multiple weekly schedules or days so you can reselect them later. For example day off or workday or late shift days or vacation week schedule. It would make changes to the schedule easier to manage. I'd also like to see the schedule on the homescreen rather than having to click the thermostat then select schedule. Overall super happy with the Nest app.
The nest app is slow. Using wifi with the wired doorbell. The delay for package drop off is so long you don't even see the person appearing on the doorstep. When the doorbell rings, its a 10 second delay. This is wired doorbell not the wireless. For it to be this slow is disappointing and when it alerts you it sees a person. You either see the back of the head or no person at all. Would not recommend to people.
Very difficult to set up for our basic usage. When we set it to home the camera stays on which is not ok. Notifications of an intruder sounded like texts coming in so we ignored them until it was too late. Setup did not go as the prompts said, I never got a qr code as it said we would. Not well integrated into home, very slow to start. Documentation I could find does not show what should work if you're not paying extra. Most frustrating experience for someone who has lots of Google stuff.
The auxiliary thermostat sensors are almost pointless. There is no flexibility in the times that you can use for the schedule. You also can't tell the Google Home which sensor to use as the active sensor. It must be changed in the app. The nest ecosystem as a whole is also confusing. Why is the home and nest app separate? Why can some things be controlled in only one app and other controlled by both apps? If I had done my research, I would have gotten the ecobee, it's much more flexible.
Learning to set a schedule is trickier than I expected. But the fact that it learns from settings I actually use helps. I love that it has a motion sensor. Having it show the current settings on the dial is very convrnient. But the best thing, to me, is that I can set changes from my phone, bcz I'm arthritic. Great help!
Its good, simple and always works. I only wish it was more like a home screen widget or at least not a separate open from Google Home even though described as 'integrated' in Home. Same as lights or Sonos volume. Have to either open each app seperately to adjust or open Home, select the thing to adjust which then opens the app that controls what you want to warm up, brighten or louden. Oh, yeah and I definitely agree with Roderick on the individual temp slider adjustments! Thanks!
the app is good, when it works. Unfortunately, after contacting the support team several times, it still gives me the message of Nest Offline even though the thermostat is online and perfectly working. Very annoying problem. Update. I did what you suggested me and it worked. Unfortunately right now I'm experiencing again the same issue. I'll try resetting the thermostat again to see if it can work again. However it would be good to find a permanent solution. Thanks anyway for your help.
I love being able to control my thermostat from anywhere. But the copy/paste feature for the daily schedule isn't intuitive. It should have a "copy day" button like the "copy week" button. Long-pressing is hit or miss. Also, I have a Nest camera that DOES NOT work with the Nest app. That makes no sense to me.
The products are great, the app is ok, the features for an expensive product, like doorbell, are meh. I shouldnt have to pay to see alerts from as far back as a few hours ago. Many times I've had an alert, go to check it, and it says my device was offline. No it wasn't. I'm not happy with the free version of capabilities, but alert pictures should be stored for at least 1 week
No boost option, you have to schedule it to come on unless you are prepared to manually/use the app to turn it off yourself and the scheduling minimum is 1 hour. Pre-heating is a very expensive learning curve (especially with oil prices now) for an already expensive product which unforunately only best serves as a remote relay. App itself functions well and UI on thermostat is novel and practical. Shame about overall functionality.
