Edit: app appears to be abandoned and thus functionality has been hindered, such as filtering sources and widget loading issues. Avoid purchasing. I'll leave my original review in case the dev releases an update: I purchased the pro version after falling in love with the standard app. This is a fantastic and worthy replacement to the now defunct Google News and Weather. Similar layout and functionality. Bravo!

I love this news app. It gives options for dark theme and larger print for those with vision difficulties, and an option to open articles in my browser. It is similar to SmartNews without all the colors and constant crashing issues. It also gives multiple source articles under each headline. No need to waste time turning pages to find topics. This is a nice, clean, easy to use interface. Well worth the .99 cents. KUDOS DEVELOPERS!

Not bad. Certainly better than Google's new News app. What annoys me though: the devs made it unnecessarily difficult to change news editions/regions. I cannot believe I'm the only app user who likes to switch between UK English news and US news. Or German news. Yet, changing editions involves a ridiculous number of swipe, taps and scrolling and more taps. Also sharing news stories is not very reliable. Nor convenient.

So far so good. App is unusable unless you buy the $0.99 upgrade as ads constantly push articles around. Upgraded version does not have that problem. Process for adding and removing Topics is very confusing with Xs and +s. Also, settings for Filter Sources requires adding text to name sources to exclude. It would be much better if Sources could be picked from a list so that names match. The Widgets are too large and there is no control over text size which could be used to adjust size of Widget. For me, Widget is inisable.

Purchased NRP pro months ago, based on the free versions good work. Used several times a day. Love the clean interface, very fast loading, and wide spectrum of sources. Also love ... But it is now toxically riddled for some reason with a growing list of flaws : Article loading errors. Some bug means it's a dice roll (sometimes "retry button works, sometimes not . The very fast loading has become a game of "close app and relaunch to see if it feels like loading articles on any tab/topic. Endless * tedious and trivial sports news (when it works) puled from crappy sources, that I cannot turn off ftaking over the real news/my main headlinesgeneral topics section. No clarifications of what's Op-ed vs actual news articles vs some amateur's blog garbage. Unless I want to delete sources that also give me real content I care about. Weather that is always wrong. And way to short sighted. I wish it was the app it used to be. I don't blame it for the lack of pictures anymore in the headlines (some google-created issue) . But the parts where updates offer zero new feaures...like smarter personal topic creation (how about Boolean or at least tweakable filters) an alternate weather provider or weather interface with details most apps offer, save-for-later, etc. I don't regret the app purchase, it was a great value and one of my most used apps. But now I'm considering other news apps. Because I want news. I will improve this rating when the app keeps up with the times. Give me the chance to stl have USA today that isn't college football! Let me read about "Alexa" but filter out "Bliss". I hope this feedback doesn't feel hostile, I still love the app, but it's not working well -currently-.

I really hate the widget! It always collapses to a one liner title bar (Top stories) with nothing to display when you're offline, when there are connectivity problems, when actively refreshing content, & even when just scrolling down, while you're ONLINE. It shouldn't do that because it destroys my other widget layouts leaving a huge void for what would have been 8-10 news line items. Regretted paying for the ad free 'PRO' version without assessing first the poor widget performance. Horrible.

The selection of news items are useful, improvements could be made. There is a tendency for a news item to be followed by other news stories with similar view points. There needs to be a more diverse range of views on a news subject to create a balance rather than risk a bias.

My replacement for GNews. Not 100% satisfactory, but ok. Dark Mode Widget always blank. Sometimes crashes. Generally ok. Wish source filtering was faster/easier, would love to add custom sources. Sometime a large headline doesn't match the subheadlines, gotta read carefully. I would switch, just not sure what's better. Really needs an "already read article" indicator to make read articles - italics or a mark.

Just installed and seems good so far. Might add extra stars after I've used it for a while. One small complaint... by default the app is using news sources which require a subscription. I've had use the filter to exclude The Times and Financial Times because I can't read the articles.

The reason for the downgrade on the rating: excessive ads & popups on the source sites. I am willing to pay to have those blocked. It has become tedious trying to read a story when only a third of the screen shows usable content. Otherwise, the idea of multiple sources for a news story is great. Make it easy to read again & the rating goes back to 5 stars.

The best news app I've found! So much better than the Google News app... The option to view different publication's version of the same news item is really useful. Being able to add categories is great. I've been using it for over a year, and I've never has any problems.

Once Google destroyed their news app, this one seems the best replacement. Still a few problems, but I like enough of what I've seen that I bought the Pro version. It still won't retain my login info for news sources I pay for so I have to constantly reenter, otherwise this is where Google should have gone instead of the unholy mess they replaced their app with. Good job dev, please keep it up!

A rich variety of features - - more than I have had time to look at. Much less space wasted on unwanted images than the annoying BBC news app. I wish developers of other news apps (especially BBC) could learn from this app.

I have been using this New Reader Pro for several years now. Its fast and reliable but most of all its balanced. Every news reader i used prior to New Reader Pro politicaly leaned to the left or to the right, thats for keeping it as fair as possible.

a functional replacement for the original google news and weather. my news widget stops working if i scroll too much. the news disappears completely. chsnging the news from the arrow on the widget is next to impossible.

Great news app. Top stories and local are my favorite categories but there are several others to choose from. It's perfect if you just want news without a lot of commentary from either side of the aisle.

It works well, thanks. Very pleased with the app, I use it almost every day. It would be nice if it gave me a "time to update" message rather than displaying "something went wrong, retry". Only a minor issue.

Best news application, truly a 5 star. Can tailor content and get rid of pictures to just get just the news briefing. Once set up, it's efficient and I can click an article and enjoy its pictures, if I want to read the article. Otherwise, pictures are just fluff!

This replaced the Google app and I like it a lot. My only issue is the 'Near Me' section sometimes locks itself to another area, so my local news is not always that local. Would be nice to be able to add and edit sources.

Best and most comprehensive news app. It gives you a 360 deg view of news on a local national and global level. What more is there to ask for. Maybe colored pics. I am seriously impressed.

Fntastic. Exactly what I was looking for, for years. Vastly underappreciated app... If you want news with all the wonderful aggregation of goofel-style aggregators, but without the horrendous, intrusive and cloistered and sandboxed G00gel BS then this is the app for you. Have news your way. Removes ads, removes AMP twaddle (!!), Allows you to cut to the chase and has a dark background. Highly recommended to get the pro version, this is a rare case where you get "more* than what you paid for.

Excellent! I've been looking for a Google News app replacement and this app is the best one! My only wish is to make the app block more ads (sponsored ads, etc) from showing on some sites.

Organized layout. Would be nice if the news sources varied a little more. Seems to be a little bias. Seems there's a redundancy in the headlines.

This is the best news aggregator app I've found, simple design and great features like the filtering option. Perfect for someone like me who wants to weed out both political extremes and the tmz type nonsense.

Complete and very polished. The ability to select image size to none so it looks more like a newspaper and not like a comic makes it stand above Google News. I bought the News Reader Pro and no ads.

I have been using News Reader Pro since it was first released in August 2014. Its the one and only news reader i prefer using to provide me the news i want to read about every day.

The best available, the one thing i would request is a settings export feature so if you need to reinstall you can simply reload all your filtered sources from a single file which would be great particularly when i filter over 30 sources

2 stories in the last 3 months, for the third largest city in our whole country? Really? There is news reported every day so the feeds this app uses are very inadequate.
