1/7/21 -- Absolute garbage. Does not work at all. Even after the supposed fix, after deleting it, rebooting phone, and reinstalling it, screen flashes blue and black and app does not load. If I could give zero stars, I would. 3/17/21 -- Thank you for the email telling me the app has been updated. It still does not work. Every word of my previous review still applies.
Terrible web page, takes forever to load, or doesn't load at all. If I could have rated at zero stars, I would have. Update: nothing has changed. They should really examine their IT department. If possible, this app has gotten worse. Only recourse is to use Chrome to access the website and skip the app completely. New edit: new device, same old issues.
The app has not worked since before Christmas. It just flashes. Update 3/25/21: After being told to update and reinstall the new app, the app continues to not work. It still flashes and blinks, freezing my phone. I am a paid digital subscriber and have been charged for months of papers that I cannot read on my phone. Very upsetting that this is still an issue. Update 7/19/21: As you can see, it took over 7 months to resolve this issue! As of today, the app no longer flickers and crashes.
I really wanted to like this. As a subscriber, I would want better swiping functionality. There are several bugs in the today's newspaper mode including having difficulty switching from the illegible newspaper format to the more readable article format, articles not loading properly ona consistent basis, and overall clumsy feel of the app. I really wanted to like this app but my experience with it has led me to unsubscribe altogether, which is unfortunate bc we desperately need better local news
If you like staring at a blank blue screen this is the app for you. I have the most recent update and the only way I can get the app to work properly is to clear data prior to each use. I have contacted support previously and every time they state a new update is coming out to fix the issue. It's been months and still the same.
Terrible. About mid December the app stopped working on android tablet. Used to work on same tablet for years. App now just flashes the screen and wont open. Many reviews with same experience. Deleted and reinstalled multiple times. No help or comment from newsday. Update: tried to reinstall it months later, no change, still does not work on my galaxy tablet. Updated: reinstalled based on your update notice. Once again no change. Just blue flashing screen.
Same experience as others. App does not open anymore with frozen blue screen on brand new android device. Update : Nothing has changed since updating the app. Screen still freezes with blue screen and will not open. 2nd update : Updated app again with supposed fix but again, nothing has changed. Same frozen blue screen and app does not open. 3rd update: rec'd email from developer asking me to update app with fix. Happy to report that app works perfectly now. Thank you for all your effort!
All of a sudden I was logged off and now I can't log in. Says an unexpected error has occurred. Please fix or I have to cancel subscription.
Newsday removed the ability to share an article by email. Why? It allows you to share via text and other methods, but not email. You used to be able to, but no longer.
Very accessible and easy to navigate. Would like to be able to access previous issue dates.
App worked for a week before malfunctioning (once again). I am using a Samsung Galaxy note8. The app tries to start-up but begins flickering and never loads. This is the only app that has ever behaved this way. My initial thought when it happened after first installing it months ago was that my phone malfunctioned; strange. NEWSDAY should have this addressed.
App logged me out, can't log back in. Update didn't help at all, I even Uninstalled and reinstalled. Nope, not working still.
Glitchy performance, worse w new update; flashes black/blue screen, never loads. Before this update, at least app opened, albeit very slowly. 3/19/21 The update on 3/17 did not resolve issue on Android. Flashes blue screen + does not open. 3/26/21 Deleted then reloaded app, unfortunately new update did not fix, still flashes blue/black. 5/6/21 Was a customer since 2003, just had to cancel. After paying $50/mo for digital access that doesn't work, cust service wd not refund any amt, moving on!
App takes forever to load content and the puzzle section just doesn't work anymore at all. For the last week I get nothing but a blank screen. Uninstalled and reinstalled, still doesn't work. Crappy app that is too slow .. easier to just Google news
The new version of the app is not as user friendly for me. I can't figure out how to change the orientation of an article when I highlight it. I want to always read in landscape mode, and now the highlighted article goes to portrait mode. Please advise.
Great when it works, but it's very glitchy on my Samsung S20 FE. Closing the app isn't enough to fix it. I often have to uninstall it then reinstall for it to work again. I end up just accessing the Newsday app on my work iPhone since it hasn't been glitchy on that device yet.
Slow.......to open. I'm a paid subscriber and this app will take ages to open. I really don't know why but it's the slowest App I've ever used. Most times I don't even wait for it to open, really poor. Great when it finally opens though... Although you'll have several more days of news to read as it takes the long to open.
Horrible app. I download and installed and then Open. Works great. It never works again. The next time I go into app, it just shows blue screen with Newsday splashed on it. Never opens. The next time I try the app locks my phone completely. I deleted the app and reinstslled. Same exact problem. Galaxy Note 10 +5G. Glad subscription was just $1 because the app is worthless. Yeah I can read in Chrome but fix fhe darned app.
Worst news app! I am a paid subscriber, I also pay for NY Times, Washington Post and Guardian. Newsday takes forever to load, all others load instantly. Update 02 02: it got worse. I upgraded the phone (S21 Ultra from S8+) and now I cannot even install the app (it installs but the screen stays blue). Tried ten times. Unacceptable!!
This app has always had an issue with latency but after the last update, it won't load at all, flashing between a solid blue and black screen. Ridiculous and feel like I'm wasting my money on a subscription.
Recent Android update fails to load. Screen stays blue, then blinks, and then goes dark. Unfortunately, this really reduces the value of the subscription. My experience is on Android 10 (OnePlus). Update (Nov '21): New Android 10 phone, but still fails to load.
Used to be up to date and full of important news content. Now updates are less frequent and not as news oriented. App has also become slow loading and subject to issues. Notifications also don't work properly.
App doesn't make it easy to clip & save articles for the future. Many times I'll click on a notification to try to see an article, then it never loads fully, I just get the logo with the spinning graphic forever.
It used to work but lately it just flashes and won't load so it's unusable. Please fix. 5/8/21 Update: after uninstalling, re-installing, deleting cache and data the app now seems to be working.
App gets worse with every update. After latest update will not even load. Makes screen blink between solid blue and solid black. Also your a NEWSPAPER. I don't want to watch videos I want to READ articles.
Totally unreliable app requires uninstall/reinstall almost daily in order to use - even on new devices. Also sits on blue screen forever loading. Newsday should dump the current app and developer and start from scratch.
The old app was much better. You could quickly see all of the main stories and easily decide what to read. The new one takes much more space to give a lot less information. They should have just added the ability to manage your account to the old app. Is There A Way To Go Back?
Not opening stories, just loads and shows a blank screen. This is new because the app was working a few weeks ago. Please fix the app and I'll fix my rating. Updated 7/19/21 the app is now once again not working properly. No update option shown for app.
This app is very good for people who want to see an overview of Newsday's headlines and read those particular articles. It falls short for viewing the entire paper because many of Newsday's articles and features are spread across two pages. For example, reading the comics is extremely difficult, but overall the app is fine for touching in on the most popular news.
