NewsGroup Reader

Works well. Just one issue, if the Daytime reading mode is enabled then vertical swiping to scroll no longer works. But changing to the night reading mode allows vertical scrolling. this bug appeared after the recent android update. ver 1.65

This app used to work reasonably well for me but at some point I stopped being able to scroll down to read the entire message. I switched to another app after struggling with this issue for a few weeks. I gave it 3 stars because it served me well for quite some time prior to this issue.

First off I was looking for a newsreader so I could get my downloads from Usenet. This one wouldn't do it. Or I wasn't doing it correctly. Usenet seems to offer a lot, but you have to know a lot on Usenet to access sign up search and download NZB files you want. Download and newsreader. 4-5 different items to even using it.

They seem to have fixed problems navigating the posts which were present in previous versions. Running Android 10 on Moto G8 Plus it works well, seems to be the only viable Usenet client on Android?

Easy to use? I can't even see an option to add a newsgroup or fetch a list of available groups.

The paid version is not available on Android 11 which was pushed to my Pixel phone. I have to use this app with annoying ads even though I paid for the ads free version!

Too buggy and message filters don't appear to work. Messages don't seem to thread together and reading a succession of messages in a thread seems hit and miss. Only the date of the originating message is shown on the subject view, not the date of the oldest newly downloaded message. Message filters all have to opened one by one of you want to find or modify a particular filter. All in all very poor compared to the iOS "Newstap"

Had to manually create the Attach folder it was attempting to save files to before downloads would work. Increasing settings like # of headers seems to work after clearing the cache. Hangs once in a while but it does the job once you get things set up.

This is not an easy app to set up or use. Not sure what's happening or why. I am using my regular news server and typed in the name of the group I wanted (which begins with rec) but only three choices appeared. There should be one hundred at least.

Usenet is mainly unmoderated, which means is crawling flooders, trolls and spammers. You need to be able to filter this garbage out easily! So beats me why anyone would make a Usenet reader without a "plonk".

In the groups manager, it should mention that a long press will also allow you to edit the server and user settings. Not clear how to mark a group or all groups as read.

Connects to server, have not been able to access a single newsgroup.

There is a problem when posting attachments. They will not be correctly decoded when viewed with e.g. Thunderbird.

Maybe I am thick but I couldn't get it too work:-(

Using Samsung S7 Edge. Tested the newsgroup connection is okay. Can load the message header but cannot load the message content

Login credentials of news servers including the passwords are stored in plain text file config.ini. This free app places an advertising banner into each and every posting sent to servers.

The "show unread button" no longer works, I now need to go through all those "read" threads to read new posts...

Any text I type in a new posting is cleared out when posted to the NewsGroup. Only good for reading NewsGroup postings

Doesnt work anymore since last update from September 6th. Could not load the article. Shame. Before that worked perfectly.

May 2014 release no longer crashes and works with all servers I tested. So far so good. I will now give it a longer shakedown before giving 5 stars and purchasing :-) (July 8: done both)

Unlike the upgrade from 1.53 to 1.54 (which wiped all my newsgroup settings - ouch!), upgrading to 1.56 preserved them all.

Supossed to be a new reader i setup my account with bintube but dossnot allow search or download anything at all its a complete waste of time paid version why when free version does nothing at all. Sad so much potential wasted in a useless crap app.

!!!WARNING!!! Updating completely erases all settings & server info as if you have just installed this app for the first time. Now I have to figure out which server I use (I'm using a free one at the moment) plus all server settings needed & reconfigure this app to access my currently unknown nntp server. I honestly don't feel the time to do so is worth it & my time would be better spent finding a different app.

Installed on Galaxy Note 2 - went to Test Connection - and received error "Unfortunately, NewsGroup has stopped".

just like the other reviews, will not seup up my account and says it has stoped working...Oh well, time to uninstall and move on to another program...

Found my news server. But refuses to download anything. Then after a few minutes crashes forcing a restart. Uninstalled.
