Well worth supporting. I've used NextPVR on and off for two or three years. On because it's the best non-Windows Media Centre PVR for a Windows PC, and off because, well, it;s not Windows Media Centre. (I'm a big fan of WMC, it got everything right more than a decade ago.) NextPVR however is reliable and resource-light and with this app, Android devices can control and play TV content. It's not the shiniest of interfaces and in places it's a little, er, backwards, compared to WMC but it's still a fantastic achievement. I have high hopes for version 5. The (I think) sole developer is doing a great job. Support him and it's not beyond the realms of possibility that NPVR could be a really good replacement for WMC when MS finally pull the (guide) plug. It does one thing - being a PVR - well (Kodi take note.)
The App is temperamental and should be considered BETA. Although it is not expensive (is is compared to other apps) it is too buggy to charge this amount IMHO. Lets hope the price will go into software development. I think the issues could be related to a NextPVR software update on the computer with the TV tuner card, but then why break the PAID app when the free PC software updates? I would think making sure the PAID app is up to date and working would be a priority. When it works it is fine and does the job well. It is unfortunate that it is categorized as a game and does not work with some remote controls.
As I have multiple devices including an Ipad, I downloaded the apps for each. The Ipad app has a slicker interface but works pretty much the same as the Android app. I installed the backend on my Win10 machine without issues and forwarded the proper port within my router settings. Fired up the apps on both devices (though not at the same time) and each worked well on the home lan. I then used both devices away from my home network and each app worked great. The developer did a good job making his trifecta usable and easy. My thanks to him. I noticed others have complained of the cost but for the backend (free) and the $13.98 (2x $6.99) for the apps, I feel it was a steal deal.
This app is absolutely the best! My HTPC is running on Linux Mint and I can record crime documentary episodes OTA from my office that has a good HDTV antenna signal since I can't get a good signal at my house.
It's okay, bought just as much to support NextPVR as to use... Works okay on my Huawei P Smart mobile. Only downsides are it doesn't have an audio mp2 codec so can't direct play channels with audio. Surely you can add this? Loads of TV channels use mp2 audio. So I have to transcode, my little server sometimes struggles. Also the Guide is not complete. Lots of channels (even main BBC 1 etc) have mostly (no show details) every 30mins in the guide. Hopefully these can be fixed going forward 👍🏻
Purchased the app and I'm unable to stream outside my LAN for the life of me. I've triple checked my NextPVR and router settings and it's still not working. I'm able to successfully access all my other applications outside my network except this one so I'm pretty sure it's not me. I've been troubleshooting the issue for two days and still haven't figured what the problem is.
'Select a server from the list' . That's all I see. There is no list. What does this mean? There's nothing to indicate. Uninstalled and set up Plex instead. It may be £3.99 a month but at least it works. That's better value than £6.49 for nothing.
no connection to server so I configured nrecord.exe to go through firewall. I also used static ip which most servers use. mobile and web interface is great for managing recordings. better than ceton app for wmc. I woukd like to see failed recordings notification as well so I know the antenna and hdhomerun are working properly. thanks.
No support! The forum does not provide assistance on how to add a server. I have been using NextPVR with the browser for years outside my network with much success, but cannot use the app as the "failed to connect" message appears.
excellent product ... well-documented on the website/WIKI on how to setup a server ... shame lazy people don't read the documentation available to them ... happy to pay the price to support the Developers ... relatively inexpensive ... people buy TVs worth thousands of dollars but complain about a $10 app geez! I dislike Cheapskates too many uses to mention keep up the good work !
Works good for me. I have 2 tuners connected to my RPI4. My first is a hauppage wintv dual tuner and the second an HDHomeRun Duo Flex. I paid $35 for a yr subscription to their record & guide service. 20 of my "HD" channels are marked unknown. If you can't get epg data you can't record. NextPVR and Schedules Direct is the answer. Schedules direct cost $25 a year and works flawlessly with nextpvr. This method also allows you to record directly from within kodi. The HD Homerun addon does not!
A great addon for a great program. I can see both Nextpvr servers I have, and set the guides accordingly. I Would like to see a little more control with advanced program setting from within the app though.
App works fine, I purchased it to install it on my Fire Tv Cube and is working fine I am enjoying not having to switch my tv to antenna input, I just open the app and select channel that simple. The app can be better it is to simple for the price. Good job!!
Updated the server software and now it doesn't crash instantly anymore. It would be nice to get an error message instead of just a crash. Working well for now though.
Bought mainly to support the developer as he has spent countless hours supporting us over the years. For what it claims to do it does very well; I would really like to see the same functionality as the NPVR popcorn hour and RPi2 and XNEWA Kodi plug-in clients so I have a one stop solution for all my videos not just recordings; ie please add a Videos option and working Comskips and I’ll be very happy. K
For a paid app with no trial period I expect the app to work. On my 2 android devices on my network, it identifies the server but fails to connect to it. Maybe if I get it working I'll revise this.
It works, but it's a clunky Android TV experience. If the native Live Channels app could be used instead it would be perfect.
Great app. It allowed me to integrate my off the air TV signal into my Firestick. Considering the amount of knowledge the author had to acquire to put this app together, the price is a real bargain.
TV works well especially on an older tablet. I couldn't get it to work well with Kodi. Works great on my phone. Don't mind the price, I like supporting the developers
Don't waste you money... Worst app I've ever bought. This app is very beta and should have never been sold... With Kodi turning into garbage I looked to this app as a replacement .... what a joke.. Having to pay $6.99 for alpha garbage I have decided npvr is not reliable enough to stay with anymore and left for Plex like everyone else.
App is still awesome. Unfortunately, I am having an issue connecting to my remote server. I can by the web but not by the app.
meh.. extremely BASIC... not a lot of polish and shine to it.. i would go so far as to call it ugly. very buggy and flaky. running in Nvidia Shield.. so it's not a matter of a slow operating endpoint
Good bit of software but if using on android box it's horrible to navigate with remote as can't scroll threw epg to find programs to record ect
Been using and supporting GBPVR and NextPVR for over a decade. This app is a great companion to the server and Kodi integration. Thanks Graham.
This app worked for a short period of time and now it crashes every time I launch it. Please fix it!!!
I played with the app, and it works quite well. I don't really need the app, but I felt it important to support the developers. I love next pvr. Keep up the great work.
Great product , really bought it as a companion to NextPVR which I have used for years and am happy to purchase the app as a way of also supporting the NEXT PVR project
There is zero server administration, and have yet to figure out how to watch TV not on home network.
App was unable to detect nextpvr server even though I could access it through chrome on phone.
I have a Nexus 7 2013 and the video transcoding was working without any interruptions. Some recent update killed it and can only watch for a few seconds before it freezes. I also tested it on my Nexus 7 2012 that used to work as well despite of the device being slow and it freezes too. I wish I can get the previous version back. Also, may I suggest to prompt for a PVR server when the program starts only if there are multiple servers, o.w. start automatically?
