Good app, and one I paid for by the way, but it hasn't been updated in a while. On Android 10 and 11, the audio playback doesn't work anymore. After some experimentation, I discovered that the breakage is due to the "unlocker app" that gets downloaded when you subscribe to the paid version. If you delete the unlocker, audio works again. So I guess the bottom like is that you should continue to use the free version.

The app is very useful. It helps me very much in developing my japanese. However, there are some moments which cannot be unnoticable. 1) It is impossible to read favourite news offline. I know that the feature of downloading news is possible in fee-charging subscription, but anyway... 2) In the app there are some bugs: it cannot be read sometime (bold type of read news does not disappear after you read the news). And one more thing: can you add dark mode, please?)))

This app is great for expanding from intermediate japanese! New kanji that are introduced have linked translations, there is an option to show furigana for those rusty on kanji and am option to hide it for those that don't need the crutch. There is audio playback of the articles which is super useful for those that can't be looking at the screen! I opted for the monthly subscription to avoid the ads since the fee was super cheap and it's less discouraging to keep using the app without ads.

Very poor. Freezes immediately on opening. No images load, and can't play any stories. uninstalled and reinstalled still useless. I've tried but can't get any articles for April, may or June. very frustrating. It loads, but only articles until end of March. switching between articles takes forever. Too many errors I'm afraid.can I get my money back? Thanks.

This is a great program to learn Japanese. By continue reading the events described in this application, I not only easily understand the news events but also easily memorize the words by repetition. I strongly recommend the use of this application to gain significant progress in learning Japanese.

Great resource for beginners! The provided definitions and the furigana, which can be turned on and off, have helped me learn with ease. The Japanese is simple enough for me to read and mostly understand, but still challenging enough that I am learning with every article. New articles are added quite frequently and cover interesting topics. I use this app almost every day as a practical way to practice my knowledge. All in all great app and worth a download. ありがとうございます!

the new words found below each news article don't appear when offline and this is the same on all the downloaded news items. UPDATE: the downloaded news articles no longer appeared on the downloaded section after being offline for more than 2 hours. my free trial is about to expire. will certainly cancel my subscription if this doesn't get fixed.

Why doesn't offline mode work well? I've subscribed but when i download articles the new words do not show at the bottom of the article. I thought paying would give me easy access to download articles offline but "enable offline" mode doesn't allow you to see current articles. As a free app it's ok but it's not worth paying for if these bugs are not fixed

Challenging content, but worth the effort! Nicely laid out platform, where articles are organized in an accessible manner. The vocabulary list and links to the dictionary make reading and listening an enjoyable learning experience.

Lots of varied stories. Level is best for upper intermediate and above. It would be too much new vocabulary for beginners and even lower intermediate would could find all the new vocabulary hard going.

maybe its a little bit slow, but its a perfrct complement for those Japanese students at intermediate level that have a hard time immersing themselves in the Japanese language (by not living in japan for example). Reading is the key for fluency

Was excited about trying this app but Ive tried downloading more than 4 times, even turning off and on my phone and its still stuck at a buffering icon. please fix your bugs :( edit: yes the app is stuck on the loading screen and doesnt show anything.

Great app for learning Japanese. You have the option to make the Romanji disappear for better practice, and there's even an audio for each article.

V helpful learning aid. Variety of topics. Like the furigana toggle. Easier to use with subscription. Built in dictionary can be a bit off. I have learnt a lot.

Fantastic for intermediate to advanced learners of Japanese! Articles are constantly updated and are engaging enough to encourage regular reading. Would recommend to people looking for reading practice!

I love this app and was considering subscribing. However, it has not uploaded the news for 3 days. I tried restarting the app, my phone, even deleting the app and downloading it again but nothing. Please fix it. Thanks!

Just a good app for some daily or weekly reading practice. Texts are kept simple and there's explanations for some of the morecomplex words at the bottom.

I dont know if its just me but I have had a subscription for months but suddenly I am see ads again. The subscription is active since i can still download articles. Any assistance would be nice. Thanks.

Very useful for japanese learning. Meanwhile you also get to know what's the latest news in Japan. I hope the loading speed can be improved.

A native and accessible way to read NHK easy held back by full screen ads that feature sound, battery use issues, and occasional --- seemingly random --- crashes.

Speech speed is a little less than normal speed. But Im glad that there is an option to adjust the speed. Really good.

Easy to read the news with hiragana over the kanji. When it gets hard to read just press the play button and read along. Fast to learn the kanji characters

Why this not allow for the kana & particles to be clicked on? Half the articles are not able to be translated by the dictionary because half the writing is kana. Even if there is a kanji for the kana it will not always be used. This, like most other "supposed" Japanese learning news sites, are missing the point of learning if you are not willing to teach something as basic as kana. Half the time a new person wont know when a new word begins or ends because there are no spaces. Disappointing...

I love this app! The news are suitable for us that want to get used to read news in Japanese. The english translation also does a good job.

Made practicing Japanese simple and easy. provided an option of slow spoken news, or written news which had hiragana above the kanji and definitions at the bottom 100 percent recommend.
