First of all I used to watch NHK newsline on tv . I have been using this channel for 2years . But since last month I was unable to play live tv video in it . It says this video can't be played in this movement. Please solve this issue 😔

Fix the scrolling!!! Scrolling down shifts the page to Earthquake tab and it is super annoying. Edit: Thanks for fixing the scrolling issue!! 2022/05/20

The app is stable and reliable, but search could be improved. Also, why are there no episodes of Pythagora Switch?

Still not working, now he is telling "no server connection". (31 dec 2021) After updating your app lost the quality. I can not stream on my TV, before it was nice and easy, now it is really impossible to use it. How can I move back to the old version ? Please help. I like your programs so much. I miss them. Not working at all now (1 Nov 2021)

Interesting content, but the navigation and the stability of video transmission would need to be improved significantly to really make it user - friendly. I'm not sure why it's so difficult to make sure that once you select a news item, then go back to the list, to make sure you're taken back to the same place! Also, some ancient news items are still placed in prominent positons. What's with the live blog from the enthronement ceremonies???

I think the overall access to news and information is good and I like it. However I been very annoyed by the sliding controls. I hate it. You cannot easily go up and down on the main screen without jumping sideways to earthquake/tsunami screens. Can you not disable that option or at the very least make it optional. It may work fine for some devices but on my phone is very annoying.

Recent updates have ruined this app, I hate to say. It used to play well and was easy to navigate, and you could even custom rearrange tabs. Now series episodes are all out of order, and I can't even play videos without the app closing after a minute or two. At this point, it's just easier to navigate their website on mobile internet! I may as well not have the app anymore.

Overall I really like it, once I can watch the content and in English, about the app, I'd like it to show what you've already watched, or, if you stopped on the middle of a video, for it to show it and start from where you stopped. As for the "idea" in general, maybe an option to choose between sub and dub, once I prefer subs, which also helps me improving my Japanese studying.

New version has closed captioning on by default for live broadcast with no apparent way to turn it off. Please add a switch to settings. Thanks. Also, captioning is way behind video which makes it that much more disruptive and annoying. When I switch to view NHK live broadcast in browser, it is OK. No closed captioning in browser view. Just a problem in the Android app.

Design flaw on Android, but other than that, good representation of NHK content. On my Samsung S10 (and on any Android) it is way too twitchy. When I try to scroll down to view more content, 80% of the time, the app swipes left or right (to the earthquake info tab). Obviously this is not what I intended to do. It's super annoying.

Like other reviewers, I think the NHK news content is really fantastic, but unfortunately the app is broken on Android. Scrolling up/down is "sticky" and difficult, and often accidentally scrolls to the right (to the Earthquake tab). It makes it difficult to actually read the articles, as trying to scroll often incorrectly moves to another tab. It's a shame, as the app is basically not usable on my phone (Pixel 4a).

Good writing and journalism. The app gets only two stars because of the UX: it's hard to scroll down. While reading an article, any side movement switches over to the earthquake or tsunami panel, away from the news panel. This makes it really hard to read, and it's something that can be fixed easily.

I love this program. Very educational. But the old version was quicker and more derrect, with the same choices searches. Meaning, You first open the app. It puts you to live TV. A few seconds deference. You turn on your TV, Your cell phone, lab top, are all on the same Channel. Till you choose otherwise. Almost watching the same program. Now you have to fuss with it. I use to watch on the go. Not any more. I just have to wait till I get home. Still like it. But miss the old version. ✌🤓👍

I absolutely love NHK news and their shows. However, since their update a few months ago, I'm unable to cast to my TV via Chromcast, which is so unfortunate. I would be watching so much more if I was still able to cast. My initial review before the change would be absolutely 5 stars. But since the update, I can only give 2. I can't watch as often, because without the chromecast feature, my battery on my phone drains substantially faster than with casting. Please fix so we can cast again!

Good news app, but the interface is very poor and makes it almost unusable. When you try to scroll down the page, it will often switch to the next tab, instead of scrolling down. This needs to be corrected, it's way too sensitive! (Copy how the Facebook app works, they have this figured out!)

I love NHK and older apps were really great, however recent updates have lead to a drastic decrease in image quality. Clearly the data rate has been strangulated to a point where the image is now low res, grainy and often with artefacts, and this even on a very fast, reliable connection on which every other service can easily deliver HD1080 or even 4K. And this has been the case on all platforms not just Android. Is this how NHK wants to represent Japan to the world? What a shame.

1) The app won't work if it's not the active window. Please allow me to lock my screen and still hear audio. 2) The low quality option is missing. It seems the app automatically detects bandwidth and choses for me. This causes connection errors for a while. Please put quality choices back 3) please add an option for audio only 4) there are many connection errors during playback. Please fix! I used to love this app

Fast and accurate news may bring the knowdgable understandings to this world..

The app has been good for the most part since downloading a while ago, but recently the scrolling has become broken. Just scrolling through an article will cause the tab to switch over to the Earthquake page, even when I'm seemingly only scrolling up-down. The app has good information, but not being able to read articles has made it borderline broken.

News is good. Layout is good. But when you scroll down to view the news on the main page, it is very easy to go side ways accidentally, changing the tab (i.e from news to earthquake). Please lower the sensitivity, this is very annoying. Other than that very good application

There is a ptoblem with this App - the user intefface is slow and jerky - that is to say, when you swipe up or down on the News screen.. it does not move smoothly - it moves slowly and in jumps. That makes it very difficult and irritating, doing the simple thing like scrolling down or up. Othereise the App looks ok.

Updating previous review -- would be 5 stars for NHK's great programs and stellar news coverage, but one star deducted because on-demand videos can only be accessed on my Chrome tablet if the display is in portrait mode. In landscape mode, the bottom of the app is not displayed, which is where the controls for showing on-demand are placed.

I'm using this application since the launch, few years back, without any problems. I updated today 1st of June 2021 and issues started scrolling is not working correctly always jump to earthquake page without reason. Also speed decreased by half. Please solve or patch it. Like this is useless despite the good quality of the content.

Enjoying the content, but please add a horizontal view for tablets and a dark mode. The video player also needs some skip functionality. Not being able to rewind by 10 seconds if you just missed something is really annoying. Scanning the video progress bar is too inaccurate for that sort of thing.

An absorbing experience. +A peculiar bug. Both the TV service and the ap give an interesting and in depth portrait of Japan,(and fascinating reporting around the world) possibly a unique quality in this type of service. An odd bug is that when I exited it, it kept on playing in sound. I shut down all aps, cleared the cache etc but it would not stop till I turned off the [huawei] tablet!

I have always loved this app, however, with the last update, I'm unable to cast programs to my Sony TV. PS update, the app now "casts" whatever it chooses (mostly the radio news update), but Im unable to cast the video I choose. I have to initiate the cast tab, then I open the onDemand panel, choose a program, but the app doesn't place a priority on my choices... It continues to cast the previous show. No cast initiation button is available in the "onDemand" area. Thanks

Very buggy-update: bugs fixed in new release

This app used to work well, but now as other reviews confirm there is clearly an issue with android phones. You cannot scroll smoothly and the screen will always swipe sideways before scrolling. Unless you are very patient with it, it is now almost useless. This is such a shame as it used to work perfectly. Where do these 5 stars come from?
