App has been taking forever to open. Usually have to restart several times before it works. Now, video playback doesn't work. I get a 'snap shot' of thr file with no video, and then the 'video has finished' thing pops up. It's pretty much useless now. I even went as far as reinstalling the app to no avail. Very disappointing. Time yo look for another security dvr with a more reliable app.
Terrible. For the last half a year or so, I haven't been able to view my cameras from the app. I've tried reinstalling the app, resetting the DVR, etc. Nothing, just black screens and device shows offline in app. I've even tried dedicating a local IP within the router, and disabling the firewall to no avail. I plan on replacing the entire system.
Horrible app. I bought this system 3 years ago and have had terrible experiences. The app no longer sends alerts. It shows very few of the playback for each day. The compy does not give tech help for any device over 2 years old. The system seams to work fine, I can connect it to my TV and look up playback that way but the app is useless. Horrible that they won't give support for the app. I have cleared the cache, uninstalled and reinstalled the app and it doesn't fix the problem. Don't buy!!
Basically same complaints as everyone else. App barely works and when it does I have close and open it a few times before the cameras actually show up. The playback feature is a joke that doesn't work or show enough playbacks if needed. Always a lot of connection issues and a lot of hot fixes. On the TV however everything is great. The app is atrocious and clearly night owl ain't looking to fix anything with it.
WHY does my Android Night Owl phone app keep switching back to SD when I switch it to HD? My hard drive is not full. In fact I wiped it clean! Also, WHY, after countless bad reviwes for the app doesn't Night Owl fix the app issues! Always excuses of it being worked on but for years there's been no fix nor changes. Hence the bad reviews here! I'm going with Axis. These are a joke and the support is horrible! People collect checks But don't work to make the app or service better. Yea, bye now!
Leaves a lot to be desired. When you are notified of motion being detected, it doesn't take you straight to the motion clip. Instead you have to click the notification, go to playback, click the date, click search, and then find the clip. Watching clips doesn't get any better. There's no bar to show the length or position of the video, no ff or rewind buttons. Just play and pause. This is a poorly designed and thrown together app
No longer works. I had this up and running for about 3 months with minimal problems. Sure the quality on the app was garbage and it wouldn't toggle mics, but thats no big deal. Now it just shows black screens on all the cameras. This started happening a few days ago when I set up the tablet app on my tablet. Ever since then neither device will work. That other app hasn't been updated in 4 years, this one hasn't been in over 2 and a half years, and it shows.
meh. This app and the cameras are good, compared to my previous Bunker Hill security system. It's definitely an upgrade in a number of ways but it can definitely use some improvement. for 440$, it could definitely be better. The time is weird, I still haven't figured it out. I set the time, like, 9am for example but the clock will say 1 hour or 2 hours. also, you cant skip on the mobile app. just pause and play. That's a big minus. I dont think I'm going to keep this.
App and camera system worked great. Then all of a sudden over the past few days, I can't get the DVR to connect to app. I have tried 2 different phones, an apple and android. I've got into the system settings of the DVR and verified connections, it address, everything. When I search for the DVR on my network in the app, it pops up, I enter my admin password that I literally just changed and it comes back as failed. Doesn't make sense. Whatever the developers did, they need to undo it!
Edited to add: I see many are having the same issues with a black screen and no footage. I was having the same problems. I was able to fix this by deleting the device (your DVR, not the app) and re-installing. Works perfectly now. Would still like to see an update to the app though, given the fact the last one was in 2018. Hope this helps the others that are having problems. Changing the rating back to 3 stars. Will give an additional star if the app is updated.
It could easily be perfect to me but for some reason they refuse to fix the load rate of playback videos. If I'm watching a channel with 300 playback videos the app only loads 10 videos at a time. Yes...that means I have to refresh/ load 30 times!!! And it's not quick. There's seconds of buffering between each load. I really like the app. I easily view my home while at work but for so many people to be complaining about what looks like a simple fix is a bad look for it.
If you have a continuous camera you can't fast forward to the time you'd like, you have to watch the whole hour clip. Also, unless you are in relatively close range of the system, you get very slow playback, if it loads at all. And, like other reviews say, clips I know should be the are not, such as my entire care entering and leaving the camera view, it's hit or miss on that sometimes. But if it is within range of the system and wifi is good, the app isn't completely terrible.
Occasionally does not connect to the device causing the cameras not to show. When I go out and back in, it then shows. Also, when viewing video in Playback mode, you are only able to play back 2 to 3 videos before "can not obtain remote video" starts displaying. Then you have to re-run your search in order to access your video. This is often aggravating because you have to reload every video to see the time you are looking for...if you are looking for 11pm, you have to wait for loading.
Buggy and counterintuitive. Videos don't play when you click them, unresponsive when you tap controls. (Addition) Have had it for three weeks, and this is useless for watching recorded videos, about 70 percent of the time they don't play, and I am annoyed with the suggestion to clear the cache every time. Its clunky, and infuriating to use. Save yourself the frustration and return the system if you still can.
This app is horrendous. I can't search for a specific date and time. Most of the time I can't view recorded clips or live view, via 4g LTE or even on my own wifi network. It says playback unavailable. Yes, this is after closing a d restarting the app. No, restarting my phone e doesn't help. Yes my Note 9 has the most up to date software and is fast enough to run the app. My upload stream is well in excess of the recommended 2 mbps. The app just doesn't work. If I had read the app reviews before installing the system I would have returned it and purchased another. Trying to playback via the actual DVR isn't much more user friendly, but at least it plays.
The whole Night Owl system is disappointing. Some times, the app doesn't connect. Some times, it detects the shadow of a cloud moving but has missed a vehicle moving along the driveway! When there is no connection, I read that I should log out and then back in. Didn't help! Disappointment continues.....time after time, the system will detect our flowers moving in the wind, but not a large truck in the driveway. Multiple vehicles drive in front of the camera, nothing!! Unbelievable!!!
