Night Toggler for Android Auto
During night hours if your headunit doesn't have the proper sensors this app will make sure that your device actually switch to night mode.
The app is running like a service and will start automatically at boot, it has not settings or anything else.
Once installed open it up, after around 30 seconds you will see the calculated Sunrise/Sunset values in the notification bar.

Used to work, but now only displays "Sun: %rise - %sunset", no actual times displayed. Has no effect on screen display, no longer stops auto headlights turning screen to night mode. As others have pointed out, this all seems to have coincided with updates to the Android OS. Is there any danger of this app actually being updated to reflect these issues, or should we just uninstall it and rid our devices of a pointless battery consumer?
Love this app, works great for Crankshaft as well! If I could ask for one thing, it would be to be able to add a buffer. I am usually driving when sunrise time comes, and it switching to daytime is like having a headlight on my dash! A small menu that you could open and add 15 minutes to the change over would be great!
Update....... Using pixel 4XL, doesn't seem to be working any longer... Previously... using pixel 3XL it seems to be functioning as advertised. It took care of the dimming/daytime/nighttime annoying problem I was having with my pioneer Android Auto head unit. I came back to see if there was a paid option so I could assist the developer
Was great but now not working after update to Android 10. So annoying with all day lights running in car so Android Auto automatically defaults to night mode. This app was brilliant at keeping Android Auto right. Please can you update it!!! Thanks for your efforts so far
Thank you so much!!! My carplay dongle app for my android navigation unit wouldn't switch to night mode early enough, so I had to manually switch it back and forth every day. This fixed that issue and now my android auto is always at the appropriate brightness.
Doesn't seem to do anything. I loaded it and tapped it and I never got any pop up showing the times. I started my car and hook my phone to Android auto and it doesn't seem to switch between night and day mode at all.
Does what it says it will do, but makes the Messages app flash until it crashes. Force quitting Night Toggler will make Messages work again but it's a pain to force stop and manually restart apps all the time.
Good app but would be great if I could set the on/off time manually instead of forcing sunrise/sunset time trigger...Really, I would like to just keep it locked in night mode ALL THE TIME!
Did not work at all. Do not see anything in my notification bar. I've tried reinstalling the app and restarting my phone several times. This is sad, as I was really hoping for a fix to this problem.
Great app. worked especially well with Crankshaft. found not to work in Android Q, but hey thats in beta amd not even released yet. Hope the dev can get that working though as im so reliant on this app now.
Would give it 0 if I could...have a 2019 vehicle and for some reason maps stopped dimming - blinding at night...this app does absolutely nothing - don't waste your time...
Very good app, just install, launch to set permissions, and let it run in the background. It just works.
Did work until android 9, now doesn't. Still gives notification of times but didn't make any change, still outputs day mode.
I give this app five stars. Was working well till recently when I updated my phone to Android Pie. This app has stopped working since.

Unfortunately it doesn't work on Note 10+, Android Pie, Peugeot 3008 infotainment system.
This app fixed my kenwood after market headunit from being stuck in day mode and my skoda from being stuck in night mode when lights are on

Day 1 review: this app works as expected! The most frustrating thing about Android Auto for me is that the car media system controls night mode. -- As the seasons change to Fall, or back to Spring, the sun sets at a different time nearly every night -- sunrise and sunset settings have to be manually managed on my car... In my 3 years using AA it's always been a pain, adjusting the night settings several times a week. The developer option for phone controlled night mode has never worked for me either. But this app did it! Google maps, Waze, everything Auto switched to night mode. I'll update my review if my experience changes, but so far so good!
