Below are three special features of the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app:
1. Monitor play time on your console.
Set a play-time limit and the console will notify users that the time limit has been reached.
Parents and guardians can check the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app to see if the time limit has been followed.
It is also possible to suspend gameplay automatically when the play-time limit is reached.
2. Check up on your console's gameplay.
The summary function allows you to easily see what games have been played on the console recently and how much time was spent playing each day.

I find the whole implementation pointless. Parental controls should apply to specific profiles not to the hardware. I find extremely irritating to have to remove parental controls for kids of different ages because only one set of controls apply to the whole device. It seems to defeat the purpose of having multiple profiles and parental control since they don't work together.
A very useful application and not only as a parental control. For example, you can receive notifications when software is downloaded and much more. I highly recommend it to all Nintendo Switch users.
I wish this allowed you to set a start time as well as a stop time. Also, sometimes it does not communicate with the Switch unless you unlock the Switch on the device and reset network settings.
Good but could be better. It doesn't always update unless connected to internet. Then takes forever to catch up. It is currently showing info for last month, but nothing for this month (currently 26th). Would be good to have it update instantly when it connects.
The app does not have many features I would want from a parental control. Mainly the ability to lock the switch so it can't be played. It only provides time played by each account, and an alarm if time goes over which is useful but requires a lot of supervision
Very useful, must have if u want to control your kids play time ! But after using it for a few years I wish it had an option where it resets to a default value every midnight . If I give extra time for my kid on one day then I need to reset it back at the end of the day or he will get the extra time next week as well.
If I add 2 hours one day, it's 2 hours from then on unless I remember to change it back. (Google Family Link has different limits for each child, and I can give bonus time and it goes back to set limits after.) A child can use any other child's profile, accessing content inappropriate for their age. Adding a pin would fix this. It would also allow for individual time limits. If the wifi is off, I have no control. I can't add time or lock it. Also needs a "where's my device" feature.
Does not provide wake up time, only total limits and bedtime. Does not work comprehensive in terms of suspending software, logical would be a 'suspend software now' button separate from the toggle to suspend within the selected time limits. It just fails in ways that still makes you need to put the console in a locked up cabinet overnight and when they misbehave.
It's OK at best... The Time Played tab is good, it updates showing play time in 10 minute increments. The Monthly Summary tab is appallingly bad - right now it shows that only 2 days played in March, NOTHING for April. How can the app show Time Played updates near real-time time, but the Monthly Summary is nearly 2 months out of date? The app clearly needs further development, as it has potential to be great.
Keeps changing my settings and allowing my child to play over the set time allowed. If I wanted my child to be able to play over the set amount then I wouldn't have set a time limit in the first place. You can also only set the amount of time as a limit not set times when they are allowed to play. I would prefer more settings to be able to manage my child's activity.
Same issue as other parents, there needs to be a start time added. I don't want the kids playing before a certain time so I have to keep time set to 0mins and then add time each day. What a pain to manage when it could be an added feature. I would also like to see the time restriction be available for each game like Google allows for its parental controls.
You need to turn on suspend software for it to stop working once the timer runs out. In my opinion this should be on by default. Also the timer option works on a present, so you can't just add an additional 5 minutes, it's only in 15minute increments.
What are you talking about? Seeing parents complain about limited lockdown options... or struggling to see how long a particular game is played. The control level of this is second to none, and simple to use. Clicking around for a few minutes will show you just how intuitive it is and if you're wanting to instantly lock something how about taking it out of your kids hands once in a while? This isn't hard, stop expecting others to parent for you.
I downloaded this app since I recently got a Switch for my younger siblings. It is quite helpful. I know games are fun, but to be sure my mother isn't upset at the kiddos, I set this app up by putting a time limit on how long they can play for and until when. It lets me know which games they play and how long each plays for. I myself own a Switch and I also put alarms on myself to notify me around the time that I usually head out to bed for work. Plus it tells me how long I played for per day!
Helpful, but I really wish there was a way for my kids to request games to be whitelisted without me having to interact directly with their switch. If that happens I'll bump it up to 5 stars. Right now though, it's very useful but somewhat inconvenient.
Generally pretty good but the app needs more fine control over playtime limits for example: set up custom play periods during the day eg from 8-10am from 4-5pm etc as well as the x number of hours. The Google family link has slightly better controls for this
tells you what your kids are playing and for how long however: - can't customize setting for each profile - even tho u can set limits for play (time wise) and bedtimes the device does NOT lock it just gives a countdown and warning ..major major drawback of this app!
Only ability to set time limit and end time. Start time setting is badly needed to stop my child using up all the time first thing in the morning.
its good but I tried to buy a game and download it but it keeps crashing, im not sure why it does that to my switch because it never acts like that. But overall the app is pretty useful!
Good, better than nothing but I wish I could lock the console when I need to or restrict their account from certain features like the shop or settings so I don't end up with extra profiles.
The app does not provide enough parental controls. It does not seem possible to apply a time restriction by user account. There is no ability to limit access to specific times of the day. The app could do with more capability. Still, it is better than nothing.
Good app, would be more useful if you could change the wake up times in schedule, and not just bedtime.
I'm happy with the app, but wish that i could set it to "time's up" at any time (not just between 4 pm and 12am) and also morning time and times less than 15 minutes.
The app stopped showing activity. That is really important with a special needs child. In not happy with the app anymore.
I love being able to control easier on what my daughter is doing on her device. Now I can ground her and take the Nintendo easier so I can have a turn :-)
Overall it does what it says it will. BUT!! I have 2 children sharing our Switch. I can't set different parental controls for each child/user, only global controls for the system. This means that we rely on the 1st child handing over the device halfway through the time limit for the day so the 2nd child doesn't miss out. Also, the older child is restricted to the younger child's gaming level. Fix these issues and it'd be fantastic!
