NIU Fit

The new NIU Fit app is developed by Lynn Herrmann, Ph.D. and Philippe Giabbanelli, Ph.D. at Northern Illinois University to empower individuals in managing their exercise. It features several workout plans designed by experts, which will walk through a series of exercises with a clear description. Most exercises can be done at home, without needing specialized equipment. Goals can be created to help users track the workout plans that they want to achieve by a given date, and any support that they require.

The NIU Fit app is developed by academic experts, based on research evidence. The use of the app is entirely free of charge. Its development and maintenance is funded by Northern Illinois University, and serves as a pilot project to determine which app features are most helpful to promote exercise. As you never disclosed your identity to use the app, all the data you generate is strictly anonymous. The data may be analyzed by the lead researchers to understand how to improve the app, and aggregate findings may be shared with the research community in forms such as conference or journal articles. The authors do not financially benefit from publishing such articles, and the main benefit is to further our understanding of how to design efficient apps.

This version of the app is designed for pilot testing. Improvements may be made based on the analyses conducted on data collected during via this app. When future versions of the app become available, data no longer needs to be collected, or the researchers find that the app does not sufficiently empower individuals in exercising, this app may become unavailable.
