The New International Version (NIV) was created by a group of scholars translating the Bible from the original texts in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek.
The project was formally started in a meeting in 1965. A big group of scholars met in Illinois and began to translate the Holy book from available manuscripts in the original languages. The purpose was to create a Bible in contemporary English.
The New International Version Bible was first published in 1973 and it had revisions in 1978 and 1983.
The purpose of New International Version is bring modern Bible readers as close as possible to the original meaning of the Sacred Scriptures.
The work of the NIV will never be complete because English usage is always changing. The CBT (Committee of Bible Translation) is charged to meet every year to review and maintain the NIV. A 2011 update is the latest revision.
The New International Version consists of 39 books in the Old Testament (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers,Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel, 1 Kings, 2 Kings, 1 Chronicles, 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi) and 27 books in the New Testament (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Romans, Corinthians 1 and 2, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon, Hebrews, James, 1 Peter, 2 Peter, 1 John, 2 John, 3 John, Jude, Revelation)

More often than not you can't navigate between the sections without closing the app & reopening it.

A really great app understandable and very inspiring
One of the best translations in publication, NIV is now in my computer, tablet, & even my phone to study any time. Now is time for NIV pdf to reside for study off-line.

I just recently (less than 30 min ago) downloaded it and was extremely happy to see that it was the 1984 version, rather than the more politically correct (in my opinion) 2011 version. It looks extremely easy to navigate around in so I'm sure that I will use it quite a bit. Thank you!
Praise God! The NIV app is easy to navigate. I've a more convenient way of reading, applying and deepen my relationship with my Savior. I'm excited about this new app and ready The Word. Praise Him! Blessings to all who decide to download this valuable tool. I'm not very fond of the pop up ads, as they are a distraction, thus giving only 4 stars. But God Reigns Supreme and for that 5 stars!
It's fantastic and I love it although I have a bible on my tablet I refere to this one easy to follow and it's laid out well and if you have difficulty with smallprint in the traditional bible this is a must have, can zoom in and read whatever chapter and verse you want without screwing up your eyes. So 4 stars and more is what I want to give it.
My time with the Lord is at times shorten or interupted, yet I am able to start my day with prayer and devotions with the help of this app. At times it is hard to start a prayer conversation with our Lord not knowing what to say. Life puts hurdles before us and it is a challange to seek shelter in the presence of Jesus. This app helps with it's devotionals and the word available. I give it a big 5 star.
Simple and plain and it has a beautiful view that motivates you to want to read more. Good work indeed. Only if we can be able to mark while in the process of reading.

This is the bible app I`ve been looking for a while now. It has specific prayers, daily devotionals, read bible in a year (not overwhelming) and easy chapter & verse searches. Thank you & God Bless! Azusa, CA
I don't like the ads. They take away from the concentration. When reading the word, when you come back it doesn't keep your place where you left off. Could use an update.

I thank God for this NIV app but the devotiomals and the prayers are not functioning. Also no font size setting and colour setting as well. So i have to rate 3 stars instead of 5 stars.
I found this app absolutely amazing, it has an easy way to access the Bible and many other features that I enjoy.
There are some annoying as otherwise a great Bible app with additional bible studies and prayers included. Love this app!
