Easy to use, good choice of baroque music, I wish it will increase soon, but until now I've found almost everything I've looked for
The intention/idea behind the app and service is good. However, there is not a very intuitive way of searching for music. You cannot browse categories. I'm an alto sax player, and there is not really popular jazz music to pick from, which is a little misleading since you have the option to select "jazz" as a category of interest when you customize your experience for instruments you play. Although given a free trial, I wish I could see what pieces/artists would be available before signing up.
I am using nkoda as a composition teacher and orchestra librarian. First of all, the collection of scores and the ability to connect to scores directly from Zinfonia is a huge plus. There have already been instances in my job where being able to call up the score in nkoda has helped us determine instrumentation of a work. I think this app has very strong potential. Where I find there could be some improvement is the view on desktop or lap top screens along with an improved zoom tool. On a standard laptop screen it is difficult to see the details in a full orchestra score. I often have to share my findings with conductors, the orchestra manager, and artistic admin staff. I would appreciate the ability to either share a score with a collegue who is not a nkoda subscriber, even if it is for only 24 hours, or even the ability to give a collegue a temporary log in to view a score through my subscription (possible features for a professional subscription level). I feel that this would make this very useful in a professional situation. I do struggle a bit with the "click on screen" page navigation. I have yet to figure out exactly where to click on the string to consistently advance the pages, I most often end up leaving the page view. The arrow keys do work well.
Look the apps great. Good music, the rate per month isn't bad compared to other monthly subscription services like Netflix, Scribd etc. Some people are criticising it taking bank details for the trial but that's standard for any service that's giving you a free sample My main issue though is that the app keeps glitching and making me sign in again every time I try to access a new piece of music. I end up having to give up, and I know this isn't down to my phone because it's just over a week old.
I've played piano for 16 years, so naturally I'm not looking for beginner sheet music. Yet for some reason, that's all I can find even after selecting the most advanced preset! Using this app on a phone is a nightmare. Why can I not use landscape mode to play? Why can't I print out sheet music? Why is something as simple as turning the page so finicky? I have to completely stop playing to turn pages. Can't recommend this service to anyone who isn't a beginner. At least there was a free trial!
Love this - the selection of music to aid in my research is just amazing. I was in a shop the other day about to buy a score and thought I'd check nkoda first. Sure enough, it was on here and saved myself some money on something I probably would have only used a handful of times. Some more tutorial videos would be helpful though, struggling with some of the features.
I have been using this app regularly for six months. Although it has much good potential as a tool for musicians, for the significant monthly subscription it should simply work as described on the tin. However, both on my phone and on my Surface the app constantly loses its subscription and needs to be reactivated; Search is slow and rather cumbersome; And annotations still aren't what they were back in May.
Pretty decent app when it's working, there were a few startup bugs that were annoying such as the Microsoft store version crashing after you put in your phone number--so you can't verify with the code. Also mobile doesn't like Gmail sign in for whatever reason. Fixed it by just doing everything on mobile, slowly. Had to knock it down a star, but the selection is really good, especially for the study collections. Ready to practice 40 hours a day 👏
Before the update I had no issues-now the app is slow , crashes and the separate reader is giving me headaches trying to open my library as the two don't seem to be communicating well. Please can you fix this or its not worth the subscription
I like the idea of this app, it has a variety of music, unfortunately at the level of musicianship I am personally, the is not a lot of solo repertoire to pick from as a clarinetist. I'm sure more music will be added as the app grows and develops more, but until then, IMSLP is going to be my best bet as a college student. *** EDITED I want a refund. I cancelled my subscription when I originally wrote this review and I was charged yesterday for $99.99 when I cancelled. I want my money back.
Finding content can be a bit tricky and ominous. Usually the score I'm looking for is there, I just need to tweak my search to find it. Filters e.g. year, instrument, opus, etc. would be really helpful!
I had some trouble restoring my subscription but we managed to get it sorted - turned out there wass no need to restore at all. Could've been clearer how to do this but once I was in the platform itself was good. I'm learning piano and there is a good coverage if material for my standard, although the library seems geared to more experience players. I'll get there...
Doesn't work on my Galaxy J5 (does not open the toolbar at the score, does not rotate to landscape); also it is not available to download on Windows either (only through MS store, which is blocked), makes my trial period completely useless 😣 Oh yes and the + (plus) sign in the email address is completely legit thing, you shouldn't block it out...
Really promising idea and wide catalogue e.g. more Boosey & Hawkes digital editions here than in B&H's own free perusal library. The option to cancel your subscription is available when logged in to the website, but not currently through the app. App is not currently qualified for Google Play download on some common tablets e.g. Kindle Fire HD or Onyx Boox series. However, if you can sideload a suitable APK (Android version, processor) through other means, it will install & work on these devices. On the Onyx Boox, optimize by setting the animation delay to 600 and enabling fast refresh mode - the stylus works reasonably well (not the eraser obviously). Walled garden means it might not be a runner for ensembles unless everyone in the group adopts it - a subscriber discount for printed editions would be very helpful to encourage wider option.
Decent selection but hard to use. Can't find music for specific voice parts, have to go through all the selections. Takes way too long to search. Won't subscribe past free trial.
impossible to print pdf. few chances for sharing and only to someone else with the same app. tools for editing are poor and useless for a musician, as they are at the moment. too expensive for what it offers now.
A fantastic idea, great implementation and good content. I wish there were even more works added continuously, this is a wonderful resource for many musicians out there.
Did not like the app so I asked for them to call off the subscription before my trial ended. I was ignored despite multiple attempts at communication. Do not use this app. They just want to run off with your money!! They charged my account and will continue to do so every month since they want to ignore me. Don't let nkoda run off with your money! Nkoda you better give me my money back or this review will NOT change!!
first it told me i could check 5 scores w/o joining the free trial. i tried the link and it doesn't give me any options but to join the free trial. seems quite hokey. will probably not sign up as it is, too much red tape. can't print, can't perform, can't share, only you allowed to see. jesus, what is this? they keep comparing it to Netflix, but with Netflix anyone in my family can watch. not the case with nKoda as I'm the only who plays guitar. also, from my searches, repertoire is limited.
The only reason I am giving it 4 stars is because I have a Galaxy Note so I use my pen to highlight, ect. but there is no landscape mode for phones it would help a lot if there was a landscape mode.
Developers of nkoda. I implore you to make some of the music free. As some people may find this whole free trail sketchy. And also i don't understand why you don't put adds for the people who don't pay. That way people are still able to use said music. Thanks!
Up and running quickly. Advanced features , easy to understand . When I couldn't figure out how to do something, Mike's reply was quick and helpful. Function is very good.
It claims to be free for 7-day trial, but I got charged RM6.33 as soon as I started the trial. Tried to print out a score but failed. Not user friendly. Immediately cancelled the subscription. No wonder the bad rating.
Absolute garbage. Paying a subscription for a garbage industry run app. Musescore is far better, it's free, plus the community is active there. You just don't find collections of music there, rest almost any piece individually can be found.
I perform with it regularly and it works great. I have it set up on an android tablet via USB to modx then modx to cp4 via midi din. I can do patch changes on both keyboards as each song loads.
Rockin, I do wanna be able to subscribe for free (as a future option if that'll work) cause I'm working on midi files of pieces of Music based on the Various Editions, also kids who are studing music would beneift from this App alot. Another neat thing I was thinking of is to be able to download the pieces of music as MIDI Files (including Piano Reduction Scores and Realized Continuo parts, etc).
This is such a fantastic resource for orchestral musicians!! I'm a violist, and so far I've been able to find every piece I've searched for to prep for symphony concerts (if we don't get practice parts as early as I'd like) and auditions. Highly recommend!
