Noise Exposure

Measure the noise around you!
With the noise indicator you can discover how much noise you have around you. Measure the noise at work, in the car and at the football game. With a simple touch you will get:

- A decibel meter that measures the sound level in real time.
- A summary of the measurements which you can name and save for later.
- Brief information about noise and requirements values for the sound level.
- Contact information to the Swedish Work Environment Authority.

How does the app work?Start decibel meter by pressing the button on the first tab. The measurement continues until you press the button again. This displays an average value and a maximum value of the measurement. You can then choose to name the measurement and save it or share it. We have chosen to remove the so-called noise calculator because it was not fully reliable. If you want to figure out the total exposure for a working day so we refer to https://www.av.se/en/health-and-safety/noise/

The app also contains information about the noise and requirement values, links to the Swedish Work Environment Authority's website.

Decibel Meter app is tested with the following phone models:

- LG G4
- LG Nexus 5
- Motorola Nexus 6
- Motorola Moto G (2 generation)
- Samsung Galaxy S2
- Samsung Galaxy S3
- Samsung Galaxy S4
- Samsung Galaxy S5
- Samsung Galaxy S6
- Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge
- Sony Xperia Z3
- Sony Xperia Z3 Compact
- Sony Xperia Z5 Compact
- SonyEricsson XPERIA Arc
- SonyEricsson XPERIA Ray
- HTC Desire
- HTC Wildfire
- HTC Desire HD

The application is not as reliable as a professional noise meter, but it gives approximate values. Note that most mobile phones have microphones that are designed for a frequency range corresponding to the human voice. Because of limitations in phones the sound level of sound dominated by low frequencies (below 200 Hz) be underestimated, and for some models is a limitation at just above 80 dB(A).

If you want to take part of the test results from the moment of calibration of the various phone models you find it here, https://www.av.se/en/noisemeter/

Noise Meter does not match international or European standard for sound level meters.

The idea is to get an indication of the noise level around you. If you experience bothersome noise levels at your workplace, please contact primarily your employer or your occupational health services.

The noise meter is published by the Swedish Work Environment Authority.

First test, I speak at slightly below normal level and it record it noicy as a hoover. At 60 cm distance. No settings or information on how to make correct measurements. This on a Huawei P 30 pro.

Not great, not awful but it claims to not support my device and it's barely ever updated.

Useful app, pleased with the fact that it can be used in English. Which it was possible to delete just one report from the list and just all like now.

It is so easy to use for measuring noise and, more importantly, for saving and sharing the measurements. Free, totally free, and no ads!

What I think people are missing is that you need to place the phone on a table and how the decibel scale actually works. If you have 60 decibels and suddenly go to 70 it hasn't increased with roughly 18%. What's actually happend is that the sound had doubled. This is always true. 110 decibels is double 100 etc. This is because of the way sound spreads.

very inaccurate, professional tool reading of 103 db versus this tool 88db

Seems to work great on Samsung Nexus.

It may not be professional accuracy (no phone sound sensors are), but it is worthwhile for comparing sound levels. Read the explanatory info on the install screen before you diss it in your review. Thanks, Sweden.

Deespite the comment that it was tested on samsung galaxy s2, results are non sense. I went to an anechoic chamber, it reads 52dB... Also i made a simple whistle not loud, and it rated 102dB. So do no trust these values at all.

Shows an average of roughly twenty points higher than math tells me it should be. Unless I am missing something?
