NOMA Advanced Christmas

This lighting system has such potential but the app is lacking so much. 1. Can't copy an existing theme and use that as the basis for your new theme. 2. Once you choose new color presets in the theme editor you've lost the original presets forever! 3. There are 8 preset slots but you can't chose which one you want to edit. It randomly picks a slot, overwriting previous color. 4. Trying to design a new color very difficult. Impossible to tell how warm or cool it will look.

I bought 2 strings of the icicles to replace my old ones and was excited that I could control colors, patterns and use with my smart home. As I bought them at the end of last season and installed before Linking I was unable to pair them as I thought they were too far from router. This year I decided to pair them first, but have not been able to, and even with going through the hassle of splitting my Wi-Fi to 2.4 and 5 GHz would not find the lights in the app. Do I require the hub to use??

Overall a good app experience. Everything works as intended, although it would be nice to have a few more options when making your own light patterns. I appreciate the timer so that it can turn on and off when I want it to. There are many people complaining that the strands do not work in unison, and I had the same problem. They do require a very strong wifi signal throughout. I did have to buy a cheap wifi extender to reach the strands on the corner of the house but it works perfect now.

Pretty basic functionality, and not overly intuitive. That siad it works well, and easy to use. Let's hope for a better app in the coming year. Update: Another year and still terrible app, functionality is terrible, these lights have so much potential but is limited by a lack of updates. Downgraded to a 3 in hopes that the programmers get their stuff together.

Works great when it's connected but for some reason it'll stop working leaving the lights stuck on the last set. Now I have to go outside and reset them every time it happens, which is a couple times a day. And to reset you have to unplug them 3 times and reconnect using the app which takes a couple minutes also. Very annoying! When working, the colours are great and you can make your own design. If I knew how annoying it is to reconnect I wouldn't have purchased.

Huge improvement! I bought the old lights last year and thought they were hot garbage. Took so many tries to get them to connect, and once i did, I found the app quite unintuitive. So I wasn't exactly thrilled when I learned my partner had bought some this year. But the new hub seems to have made a huge difference to connectivity. The app also seems much easier to use now. IDK about some of the other commenters, it looks like they're letting me edit some preset themes now. Consider me converted

This app absolutely sucks. When I change the timer it reverts to what I had before. I have to always open it twice because the first time it crashes. I can get the lights to come on at the right time but sometimes they don't turn off till 3 in the morning when it is set for 10 p.m. after paying a lot of money for a set of Lights, really wasn't worth my frustration.

Despite the reviews, I bought these anyway, because there really are no other programmable strings one can buy.The first set paired right away and stay paired, unlike for other customers. They remember their programming when unplugged, unlike for some customers. So I was able to program my colours near the router before hanging them. They are way at the limits of my WiFi, but still they connected once. My complaints with them: They only responded for about a 5-second window every minute or more. So I had to choose my pattern and keep tapping it until it finally loaded! And using the app. or Alexa to turn them on and off was out of the question (I'd have to happen to catch them during the 5 seconds). But since they retain their programming when unplugged, I can use Alexa (or any timer) to turn off the plug they are plugged into. Also, their colours didn't match the app very well. Purple looks purple, and green and blue are fine, but orange looks yellow, and I had to set them almost to red to get orange. Also, I was hoping to be able to program multiple stages that they would cycle through, as the packaging seemed to imply, but all they can do is set the colour of each of the 24 lights, then either be steady, chasing or shimmering. But at least they are very bright, and look great! Later I decided to buy a second set though, and when I paired them they did NOT have that connection problem; they responded instantly. So I decided to take down and exchange the first set, and the replacements for that also work perfectly. They have a 3-year warranty through Canadian Tire. Maybe they can fix the app. to get better colour matching. It also always has to be restarted when I return to it after leaving.

The wifi feature does not work properly. The timer does not work. In order for it to work I have to unplug and plug back in. It works for the first 10 mins and then stop. Cool lights but needs improvements. It seems like this was a rush on the design and functionality. I will be taking them down and returning it.

Easy setup but a few glitches So easy to install the app, hub and lights. Love the pre programmed themes and the easy ability to adjust the speed. The built-in timer was a great surprise. The only issues was making my own custom theme didn't seem to work. I selected colours for each light and the glimmer feature but it did something on its own. Accidentally selected a preset colour twice which you couldn't erase and can't figure out how to delete my custom theme. Still love it!

Pain in the butt to pair the lights. It needs to be more user friendly. It'd be nicer if there was more customizable options for the blinking/chasing options. Also needs a better way to control the colour slider (fat thumbs is hard to select the perfect colour... Maybe an RGB code option). Edit: after having basically no success in getting the lights to sync and the app not working, I returned these lights..... Don't waste your time like I did!

App is garbage as others have stated.. big potential but needs a lot of work Updated Nov. 2021 : The app had been updated and it is a great improvement. Still some bugs to work out but much better. I wish it had more options for the patterns (not themes) and also the light spectrum.. can't do just a plain bright white or classic warm white. Timer actually is working now also.

Awesome idea for christmas lights, unfortunately the app is a complete let down. They force you to HAVE to login, their servers aren't exactly reliable, and are down quite often. You can't save the preset colours, IF you want to try and get warm white, good luck using the colour slider. There needs to be a copy paste of a colour from the presets. The strand/box that is CLOSEST to the access point is the one that takes 30 seconds to connect in the app. The initial connecting of the lights to WiFi can be a pain. I would recommend you do them one at a time as they will all want to download new firmware. This app just needs a few tweaks and server stability fixes and it would be 2000% better.

I agree with other comments. I tested the lights with the app before I hung them.The connection through the app worked, but not always. I then hung the lights on my house and the best I can do with the app is turn off one of the 2 strings. My router shows strong connections to the lights so I can only think this is an issue with the app. Very disappointing. If the app is not fixed, then returning the lights it is.

So much potential... So short sighted for maximum profit. Premium price and no option at all to sync to music. It's software... Come on. Even the UK version (Noma spectrum lights) have this feature), even the app developer has this in other product lines. Assumes no one has anything more complex than a Linksys router at home. Doesn't even use mDNS or other multicast tech to get around this. Doesn't even publish what it is they are doing for networks.

Have 9 strings connected and they work great! You can create amazing patterns with the endless customization options. You do need a strong 2.4ghz WIFI signal so if some of the lights strings dont respond to your commands, move the router closer and that will fix it. My only concern is that the app should include an RGB wheel or code builder since it is hard to select the right color with the thumb slider

The app is not completing the connection. Flashing green when lights are plugged in, turn to solid red but not getting connection successfull message. Connection keeps timing out or freezing up. Then you have to reset lights and start all over again. Glitchy app needs to be fixed otherwise just get my money back for the lights. Lights are expensive to begin with but if the app is unstable what's the point...

This app and lights are absolute garbage!! Do not buy. Having to reconnect lights continuously with WIFI extender literally 10' away. If you plan to run two accounts with different lights forget it, the app loses it and combines all the lights to the one count or the other and its a pain to delete them and assign them back to the correct accounts. Sorry I wasted my money.

Both iOS an android apps fail to control the light's patterns using the reccomended 2.4 network even though the lights say they are synced. I tried hooking the 2 strands up one at a time and both at once. Rebooting the lights, restarting the phones, toggling the wifi off and on, reinstalling the app. Also, you can not replace the individual bulbs.

Easy setup!! Yeah right, I can't get these to work. I set up a whole smarthouse setup with raspberry Pi and Linux, eventghost and zwave. Out of all of the smart products ever used, I have never had as much trouble as I am having with these. They won't even pair to the app. Just got off phone with tech support, they could not find a fix, the app is the problem and told me to return them to store because they don't have a solution. DO NOT BUY

Just put them up and had a horrible time getting 2 strings to connect. I've had to unplug and plug so many times. The timer only shows two numbers..not full clock like it shows in the tutorial. Timer doesn't work. I had to try to shut it off with the crappy app that didn't show the light strings connected a couple hours later. The next day, one of the 2 strings was on... Not close to the 6 pm start time. And I had to re connect outside in the cold and plug and replug again the next day. AWFUL

App took a while to connect with lights. Having my two strands connected as a group, I thought they would work in sync, but they don't. I can't even use the app to turn them off manually, only with the timer. Very disappointed in the app. The lights look great when they work

The app keeps getting stuck at the part where it's connecting to the lights. The lights are flashing green, then they go solid red, app says connecting to lights and that's as far as I get. 2 different phones, IOS & Android. 2 different WiFi setups. Disabled 5g. All the same outcome. So 4 sets of lights are 100% unless until they fix this.

Terrible App. Noma should be ashamed for put out such a buggy and incomplete app. Like others I am extremely disappointed. I expect alot more with Canada's number one Christmas light manufacturer. Big problem: The lights dont re-connect after a power disruption. Everything seems to be messed up now. The only way to fix it is to unplug and plug the lights in? Give me a break. :The setup is a nightmare (took me over 2 hours to get it to pair) and there is no support with 5 GHz networks.

20 tries and still unable to connect to my WiFi. Didn't realize until I got home that these didn't come with clips so had to go back and spend another $50. Finally get them up and try and connect to Wifi and then find out it has to be on 2.4ghz. I get that sorted out and that should be it but no. Follow all the instructions multiple times and it will not connect. I sure wish I read all these reviews before I bought this garbage. Great idea but crappy product. Hope I can get a refund.

Absolutely horrible product purchased 1didn't connect was told by customer service to exchange it exchanged at store brought the 2nd one home still does not connect to 2.4ghz Wi-Fi. Disgusted with the waste of my time and the cost of the product for what it is garbage. Got my money back in the end but to the disappointment of my children who were excited to have these lights hanging outside. What an embarrassment. I have to agree with almost every other critique of this product. Terrible!!!

Worst product ever. Bought 3 sets of the icicle lights and all they do is flash green. I can't get them connected now for 4 hours. I'm using a 2.4ghz connection and 2 feet from the router. If you check reviews on these 3 months ago everyone says they connected. After that all you see is frustration. Noma has good hardware but seriously lacking with software. These are going back asap.

After multiple attempts to sync lights,with no success. I returned them tried two new strands and still could not get them to sync together. I phone the so called help line and got told to return them! This product is grabage. The help line has now asked me to reach out to you to see if you can help fix my problem

this app needs an update or something , it will not complete the the connection, lights start blinking green as the manual says it would. Started the connection process the lights go solid red but freezes. I've had to reset the light 3 times I even reset my router after the fact. the app is glitchy and not working as it should be fix it...

Had the same issues as others, but we figured out that the connectivity doesnt work under a 5GHz. Change it to the other netowork option (non 5GHz). Once we changed our phone network (the wireless network at our house) to the non 5GHz it connected fine. Two of our three strings worked great, the third works but doesnt always shut off or change according to the app settings. Figuring that string of light is a lemon.
