This app is superb, it saves you a lot of time checking your phone manually when a notification comes in, to just hear it being read aloud. Furthermore, it supports any app that has notifications, so you can use it with every kind of messenger app, not just the built-in one, or none at all, as it can also be used for timed announcements, such as reminders. Aside from being a handy way to avoid having to unlock your phone's screen throughout the day to check notifications from friends, it just plain feels nice to hear incoming messages being read aloud sometimes. It can also be super-useful if you are in bed and a messenger notification goes off, to know whether or not it's something worth crawling out of bed to reply to, or just something that you can wait until morning to check.The app also includes an (optional) widget for your home screen, that when enabled, displays an on/off bar so that you can quickly disable the reading of notifications, in the event that you want to avoid annoying those around you in public. Prior to this most recent update, it became at one point temporarily unable to read SMS messages properly, but this issue was quickly resolved.
I seldom leave reviews and when so rarely give any more than 4 🌟 . With that said here's my 5 🌟 review Love it! Very useful! Can set it to read messages out loud which is very beneficial. You don't have to go grab your phone and read every message you get it'll read them out loud for you. Really nice not having to mess with checking messages you don't care about. Especially nice if you have a Bluetooth. Can set it to only work with Bluetooth/headphones on so it doesn't read messages outloud you don't want other people to hear. This is a must have application. I'd like a different theme though I'm not very fond of the yellow color however since this is something that you don't really open often it's not that big of a deal.
Great app. Thank you. A little bug though. In the "Power disconnected" section the notification message goes like this: "Charger is disconnected". And in the "Battery status" section the notification message goes like this: "You have 70% of backup left". When I disconnect the charger the app gives this notification: "Charger is disconnected AND You have 70% of backup left". This is fine if the language is English. But if I change the text-to-speech language say to French, the app keeps using "AND" to join the two messages when it should use "Et". Apparently "AND" is hard-coded in the app. You got it? Please fix it. Thank you.
While other reviews and the last update seem to indicate this app is (unfortunately) abandonware without support, and has bugs related to announcing callers, for my needs it's best-of-breed — small, unobtrusive (no persistent notification while running in the background), and a clear (if outdated) UI. What are my needs? I just want notifications to say the name of the app instead of choosing an alert sound. I want to hear "Calendar" and "Incoming text" instead of *bing-bong* and *twinkle-twinkle*. Shouter is perfect for that, easy to set up, and easy to see which apps are using Shouter.
It's okay I guess but two things are I wish it would read the the same details that shows in the email when the notification pops up. The second thing is it doesn't finish saying the notification so if you get two notifications at the same time it'll interrupt the other notification and not complete it. You'll never know what the other notification said.
For free, it's a good app. Does what it can. Would buy if it weren't for some glitches. Most annoying is that despite my default phone settings and changing it in the app, the app changes the voice to the the most annoying voice for some weird reason. It's this app because other apps don't do it
Please sort out the issue of it switching to/from American accents instead of the phone's default "English UK" TTS language. Also, after 3 edits of this review and 2 emails, I've yet to hear from support. This is, however, an absolutely brilliant app when it is working.
I love this app! These features are natively built in on the lg stylo phones, that's one of the many reasons why imma lg guy. But now temporarly, i'm using my obama phone, and needed this app. If your phone is across the room, know whose calling before you even get up. Assigning each person in your contacts a different ringtone can be time consuming and possibly confusing.
At first I really liked this app, especially since I have little use of my hands due to a disability and it was nice knowing who is texting or calling without picking up the phone. However, it started give me the wrong name for the caller, such as "Carl" when actually it was "Lisa". Unless we can find a resolution, I will have to uninstall this app.
It has a nice variety of options pertaining to how it will handle reading different message events on your phone. I would have given it five stars if it had the ability to filter what it read based on the content of messages are notifications.
Great with one fatal flaw: If you receive two text messages (from the same source?) at the same time, you only hear the last message. Need to queue or delay it so we can hear the (This is with one repeat enabled but probably doesn't matter.)
I really like this app. The only thing I wish I could do is have it announce a priority list of favorites instead of all incoming calls and text. I used a similar feature in my old Note that's not built into my new Note 9. Other than that great app. I'm considering purchasing the pro version... 😊 😊 😊
Highly recommended. I have been using it (free version) now for over 3 years, and it has never disappointed me. low memory and battery consumption, though allowed to use background power to ensure its efficiency.
I had the old version and now I have the newer version, either way I am totally in love with this app. Combined with Google assistant it is the perfect combination of call, messages and email management. I love driving along while Shouter reads me everything that is delivered to my phone. Great job guys!!!
Looks good but can't change sound output. Despite uninstalling and reinstalling a number of times it refuses to use anything but the media channel. If I find a fix I'll keep it otherwise it's destined for the bin.
Very clear.annnouncer; reading out battery.charge is a handy feature. But so far i cannot set it to NOT read contents of messages. So that leads to private messages being read in public!! Downgraded review as app no longer useful to me.
Well, my old phone used to tell me ' You have E…mail'… perfect as I am not a 'phone… starer' but then up… graded my phone & could not get that sound but then downloaded this app after trying others & am happy enough, although it does not say 'You have e~mail it does read out the details on Line, e~mails, texts & Whatsapp which I can live with so recommended for oldies like me who do NOT answer the phone whilst driving, eating & talking to people face~to~face! So yes go for it!
I like this app it's straightforward and it reads just the messages I select without all the other mumbo Jumbo that seems to come with the other message reading apps only downside is sometimes when I have it connected to Bluetooth devices it doesn't seem to read normal text messages have to open the app to prompt it but it but reads out messenger WhatsApp and all the other messenger apps I have set just struggled a bit with normal phone text message but works most of the time happy with app
It won't let me program it to my liking. It enables apps that have nothing to do with notifying me. When I turn them off, it disables everything else. Very poor app or very poor help on what the heck I'm doing. Must uninstall!
The app doesn't work except I wake it up from sleep by clicking on it. Once I am not working on shouter and shouter becomes idle for 5mins...any call or message that comes in, the app won't announce. What could be the problem and pls rectify this issue
Excellent app. Yet every 2 weeks stops announcing. I have to un install and reinstall again. The app is not optimized in my battery settings so i can not blame on software phone. Update : i just quit it because was not reading my whatsapp messages. Found a far better replacement...
like that you can customize a lot of settings from what notifications, when, volumn,sound. I would like to see if not read the text message out loud for all and make some set limited or private .
This would be perfect if it let you stop it from reading the content or apps other than just SMS I use smart notify and just want it to read who the message was from but because it is not standard message app it can not be changed so it reads the content
it was awesome, until it started to mess with the rest of my phone's media sound. for example Instagram videos, WhatsApp voice notes, etc where always with volume off when i never turned it off in the first place.
App is designed for the purpose of notification to voice. Customized way of announcing the notifications are available. Option available to voice out notification of required apps so that disturbance can be avoided. Overall app is perfect for the need.
Great app and the only one that will still give notification through phone speaker when connected to BT in car (I don't get sms notifications in car). So far it's quirked every time and no errors.
There's no pause between the title of the app and the content! It sounds horrible. I only want to skip the app title speak but there's no option to do that.
Having used it for a while now, it doesn't always announce a call or call out a text so downgraded. Android 10, Pixel 4XL. Also repeats first word of announcement for SMS messages such as "Message Message from..."
Only used for battery and incoming texts to decide whether need to pull over and read/reply while driving. Had Verizon Moto z3 play for 3 years, worked great. Got new Vz Moto G Stylus 128mb, Android 11, in June. Shouter worked until about a month ago. Now none of it works, text, phone ringer, battery... Probably coincides with the Software update RPRS31.Q1-56-9-7 on August 25, 2021. Verizon denies it of course. Don't think it's Google. Can't get a Motorola person who knows doodly on the phone.
Look no further! This is a game-changer for me. It says what it does and more. I have tried dozens of apps that were too invasive or had too much bloatware. This one announces texts, the time, battery charging, etc. The settings are user-friendly and for someone like me with Bluetooth hearing aids, it's exactly what I need to hear without disturbing others or making me stop while walking or working to see who texted. Keep up the great work!
