This app breaks like it's its job. I've probably had to uninstall and reinstall it [only thing that's fixed it] when the app stops play sound. I've had to do that dozens of times over the last four years. Now the uninstall/reinstall isn't even working. What happened? It's been months since I've had this thing break on me, but here we go again, I guess. Every time this happens, the NPR One app is still running, but I don't like the format of that app nearly as much for the news programs.

Meh. It sends a notification "Breaking News" click the link and go to the app, but the headline from the notification is nowhere to be found. Or, just now, I saw a notification from earlier, clicked it and the app had no material available at all. If I go there to read what ever is there, it's good. But the notifications thing is making NPR look bad. 11/10/21 When I scroll it judders. I have to look away when I scroll, which is problematic. It quickly made me nauseous. 12/19 Still juddering.

Scrolling is trash. What's the point of decent journalism if the mechanism of display actively fights being read? You try to scroll the page down to continue reading and it shoots right back to the top. "Oh, you're trying to read me, well let me urinate in your cheerios" I've contacted multiple times for the bug, no response. 3 months later, it's worse now than before. This is app 101 stuff and it functionally broken. Get it together

I like NPR but this app is kinda garbage. 1. No way to remove stories from the playlist without clearing the entire thing. This is idiotic. 2. Moving stories up and down the playlist works about 10% of the time. Based on what? I've found no way to tell why. 3. Stories on the playlist overlap and cut off the intro to the next. 4. Keeps playing audio when closed. This is beyond unacceptable. It really should be better. Essentially all it is is a podcast player and story aggregator. It makes no sense that updates are so few and far between. Temps doing this work, too?

A truly awful app for something I love so much. I've put up with this terrible app for years because I love listening to NPR, and it has never improved. Seems like it's a bad mobile reskin of their website. If you pause a story you're listening to, say goodbye to it after about five seconds, because it won't hold your place for much longer than that. That's unlike every other audio app I use, which all function seamlessly with Android. Even the touchscreen on this app is random and sluggish.

I love the coverage, and the options available through the app are better than adequit. But the tech part stinks. Runs in the background when off, using battery. Doesn't play with my car bluetooth radio, starting on it's own over and over, playing different content when restarting (get back in the car after pumping gas and expect to have to re-start yourself or it insists on segment from the past). Casch never seems to clear itself. You can do better NPR! You are a great news source and more!

I have been using this app of which contains written news, podcast, and even radio for years. Never used the radio. But I think it has any NPR radio of your choice. That is of any state. Podcast news can be heard individualy, or be heard in a playlist. I'm happy to say that I've never had any problems with this app; regardless of any smartphone I ever owned. And they were many. There seems to be a knee jerk reaction for criticism. My impression is that they didn't really take a look at the app.

Radio keeps cutting out all the time, sometimes completely shutting off. This used to be the one part of your app that worked reliably. PLEASE get this app out of the eighties and WORKING. <- All of this is still true the better part of a year later. Come on. I'm tired of missing half the story because the connection can't seem to hold.

I love NPR. JUST GO TO THEIR WEBSITE ON YOUR PHONE. PLAY IT FROM THERE. You can even lock your phone and do other things and it works fine. This particular app just has trouble with my Samsung. If you like to keep your phone in any power saving mode, then it will probably randomly stop playing, just like most radio apps. The UI on the NPR mobile website is surprisingly kept up with and easy to use. I just don't see the benefit in having this app.

This app use to be at the top of my list. It was a must as far as everyday use. Now it's just frustrating and annoying to the point where I contemplate uninstalling because it's absolutely useless. One second you're listening to it and the next second it just stops for no reason. It doesn't matter if it's the hourly news or the top stories all you get is maybe a 30 secs of news before it's silence. I keep checking back hoping they will fix it but this has been going in for months and months.

I've relied on this app for years, and was happy with it. A few days ago, however, it started cutting out in the middle of stories. The same stories play fine on my (Apple) iPad, so it seems like the Android npr news app is the problem. Very frustrating. I'm rating the app 1 star because it's not working. I love npr and am a sustaining supporter. I'm running it on a phone with Android 9.

Graphics referenced in articles aren't there, links don't go anywhere, and sometimes I click on a notification and I'm not sure the article it takes me to is even the same one. Also, there's no way to open an article in a browser in an attempt to access the missing graphics and links. Only good for reading a few text-only articles. Might as well just go directly to the website instead.

UX really needs some work. Not intuitive to click on "News" when user is on home page news feed. It seems redundant. Why not call it "MORE" or other to indicate that there is a menu of drop downs? Or add more main navigation tabs so the user can easily navigate into the content. Black tab drop down arrow gets lost on dark field due to size and color, perhaps consider making it lighter gray or white so it is visible to the user.

The app's audio and software works fine, but for some reason, recently the app has been shorting out. I add a program to the playlist and start playing it, but when I move away from the app or my phone closes, the app shorts out and stops playing audio. It's extremely frustrating because I like listening to NPR while I check my email or do other things away from my phone and for the app to keep shorting out makes the process very annoying. ** Thank you NPR for giving me a solution to this problem

The simple UI on this app is great, shows exactly what I need. Link's and graphics in articles don't work or appear though. No easy way to directly open the article in your browser as an alternative (you can use the share link as a workaround but it's cumbersome). The queued audio bar is also a little unnecessary, I feel like it should be a separate tab or section of the app.

Very good news source but... UI leaves a lot to be desired. 1) Scrolling is a pain. Can't do a quick scroll without it bouncing back to the very top. 2) Searching for news is difficult. 3) Categories are there but not enough to be helpful Please work on the UI for a better user experience! I would have put 2 ⭐s if it wasn't for your great content.

Notifications from the app about news stories, when clicked, lead to the article less than 10% of the time. Notifications also do not seem to correspond directly to any of the articles on the main news feed. Occasionally if the notification is too long important info is left off making difficult to find the article it already doesn't match. The online radio functions adequately.

Nat. B. Oct 24, 2018

Sends news alerts that either 1.) don't open at all 2.) don't link to any stories actually in the app when it does open or 3.) have such radically different titles from the actual stories that they're nearly impossible to find. It's very frustrating. And to make it worse, the news alerts only show partial headlines making them very tantalizing for a curious person, but equally disatisfying since I can't actually find out what the news alert was about.

i love this app, but have a few complaints. everyone complains of it stopping unexpectedly - i have the opposite problem. when i pause a story, it sometimes starts on its own again where i left off, playing on its own in my purse, in the middle of a meeting or whatever. i cant figure out how to permanently STOP a story! it stays on play, for days or even weeks, as if i just paused it. Adding a progress bar to stories being read would be great, too.

stale, and not nearly as good as it should be. most annoying? Doesn't turn off when you close or exit the app, you have to re-open and find the stop button, then exit. and sometime it just runs out of buffered data, and so goes quiet, and think its off, only to start blasting away in a meeting hours later and you have to unlock the phone, find the app, open it, find the stop button, press it, and NOW its nice and quiet, and everyone looking at you like you just farted.
