NSWFires

NSWFires is designed to provide up to date information about bush fires in New South Wales, Australia for users of Android devices.

The application utilises data from the Rural Fire Service (RFS) of NSW for fire information and the Bureau of Meteorology for current wind data.

Using this information the application is able to provide a list of fires that can be sorted and filtered to help you understand your current situation.

The information provided by the application is dependant on the accuracy of the data provided by NSW RFS.

This application does not cache any data, so Internet access(either wireless or 3G/4G) is required to access the data.

Be aware that while P4G has utilised "best efforts" to provide this information to you, it is not intended to replace other sources of information on the fire situation near you. Also remember that fire and weather data can change quickly.

The basics are definitely there and it is improving with updates. Good information but some improvements needed. Slow to launch, sometimes over 15 seconds. Hotspots are different colours, but no clues as to what those colours mean. Hotspots sometimes not displayed at all (working fine ATM).

Exceptional information. Hot spots with how hot using satellite imagery overlayed with weather and wind direction and with what time those measurements were taken. A must for those in at risk zones IMO!

This app would get 5 stars if it didn't jump around when you are looking at something. I'm trying to see our big fire and it keeps going to a different area

The watch zone doesn't work. It won't save an address and does not delete when requested

this should be better quality as it is an essential app for people living in fire prone areas.NSW government needs to step up and provide funding for its development.

Watching Border fire as a resident of Lochiel area, need better explanation of what the megawatt rating means

I'm guessing as the app hasn't been updated in about 18 months, along with the growing list of reported issues, that the app is no longer supported. That is a shame as I quite liked how it worked and I used it regularly. It still has some functionality; however, watch zones and notifications do not work as they used to. I will keep it as a backup to FNM, but my rating will probably reduce as time goes on.

A few bugs: The 'Create New Watch Zone' menu option simply doesn't work. I discovered from another User that you can create a new Watch Zone by holding down on the Map for 5 secs. I understand the Apple version works OK. The back arrow in 'Notifications' doesn't work - so you need to 'reopen' the App to regain control. The 'Share' function looks like it has test data coded in the App - it has data on some (not current) fire which it attempts to save in the chosen target App (Memo, Message etc.), even when the Notifications list is Clear. The same icon (red flame) is used for two different purposes : Type (Wildfire) and Status (Out of Control).

Notifications and watch zones screens are blank on Android7. (The main purpose of subscribing) PS. I promptly received from the app developer the how guide to fix my issues , thanks for that, the app is useful and works just fine. As a RFS first responder I find the app slow to post events, shortest time of 8 mins is a disappointing slow time.
