NZeTA

Download this free official New Zealand government app and use it to request your NZeTA and pay the IVL. Using the app is the fastest way to request an NZeTA and should take you less than 5 minutes.

You can use the app to scan your passport to upload your details and scan your credit or debit card for ease of payment. An NZeTA request costs NZD $9.

You can request and pay for up to 10 NZeTAs in one transaction for your family or group.

What are the NZeTA & IVL

The NZeTA is a border security measure introduced by the New Zealand Government on 1 October 2019.

Most visitors coming to New Zealand must pay an International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL) of NZD $35. The IVL is a way for you to contribute directly to the tourism infrastructure you use and help protect the natural environment you enjoy during your stay in New Zealand. Good, quick and friendly. At first I read all the bad reviews and I was a bit reluctant to use the app. However, I gave it a try and it is straight forward and very easy to use. I requested the NZeTA during New Zealand working hours and the whole thing took no more than 3 minutes. You just need to be attentive and read the instructions carefully – I guess this is the Kiwi way :) About paying extra fees to the credit card company for every separate application: when using the app you get a 3 NZD discount which is more than enough to cover any extra expenses you might be charged with. So do the math yourself and if it is still a bad deal I would kindly suggest changing your credit card company.

Nice app! Just one thing, I found that the example for taking photo is necessary to setting as a MUST fully watched before access to take a photo. Coz I ignored it and took an off-standard photo with non-plain background but still can submit? I just realized until I did the second one. (sorry i skipped that example😝). I think this part can be improved. Overall, I am happy to use this app.

Good app and worked well for me. The only criticism is when taking the photo you don't press a button yourself. The app automatically takes the photo immediately when it detects your face. This is far from ideal as it doesn't give you any time to position the camera. If the app must automatically take the photo then please insert a 5 second timer delay once the app has detected your face to allow the user to get ready. You can re-take your photo but you have the same problem. I had to take 4 photos before I got one which looked proper.

I had to restart the application twice because the app wipes my data if I don't complete the whole application within 20 minutes or so. I finally got ready to pay, entered 3 different credit cards, and none would go through. I just kept hitting the pay button and nothing happened!! Edit: Looks like the app is under maintenance now. Hopefully the issues are fixed when I try again tomorrow. 🤞 EDIT AGAIN: YAY! It works now! Thank you for patching.

Straight forward process in structure, however, the card scan feature does not work and it too quickly takes a photo without giving an option for the applicant to choose when it is taken. I entered my card details manually, and the transaction did not complete, the timer just kept swirling..No explanation notification or exit/cancel option. As we can't post a response to your reply, I'll edit and add here. Hello, It seems your reply was intended for another query as my review is not about multiple requests. The transaction does not complete, so I am not sure if I'll get to NZ using this app..

Very quick and easy to use. It wouldn't scan my credit card so had to enter details manually. I downloaded and completed form on iPad. I thought I would then be able to download the app with my NZeTA on my android phone as is possible with most other apps. Not possible with this app. Otherwise satisfied with ease and speed of application.

I was unable to use the App at first. I got an error message. Several hours later I tried again with success. However, it would not take an America Express CC as it uses a 4 digit security code. As another reviewer noted, the App should allow you to complete the process for your entire family without perging data.

Useless app - have spent half an hour trying to get it to take my photo, but it keeps failing and doing nothing. No explanation of the process (or what the photo is for). No wonder they charge less if you manage to get the app to work - they should pay you for the time wasted trying to use it. Hope I manage to get to NZ, not sure I'll bother next time.

Well, installed twice so far and it simply doesn't work. Just a blank screen. Bearing in mind they charge extra for making a web based application, and we are after all dealing with a government agency, this ranks as pretty poor. Update Jan 10th: no reply from the developers, still unable to process an application. Were this a commercial enterprise it would, rightly, be shredded. NEW ZEALAND, YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE STINKS.

The app worked great until the payment section. After I submitted my payment information the app froze (the circle kept spinning), and I was charged without any confirmation of whether or not my application went through. I closed the app and was in the middle of calling my credit card company when I got a confirmation email from the NZeTA office (approx. half an hour later). Edit: Tried again after issue was fixed by MBIE, it now works! Thank you for the quick resolution!

App is not working, keeps coming up with an error message "an unexpected error occurred. Please try again later". I've deleted it, reinstalled it and still get the same error. Used to work well, not sure if this is an isolated problem or universal.

Easy enough to use except for the part that automatically takes your picture. A shutter button would work better especially as to redo the photo you have to start the application from scratch. Also the app won't allow you to enter in more than one application.
