It's not a terrible app since it's user friendly and easy to navigate through. However the issues I've had with my Android phone rarely occurred when I had this app installed on IOS/iPhone. The loading time does take longer; usually I have to have the pass ready 2 minutes before the bus arrives. It's also a 50/50 for the pass scanners and when they don't work the drivers tend to feel frustrated and have you show the pass to them instead (which shouldn't be the case). I'm glad that OCTA implemented this new pass system but the Android app definitely needs some improvements to match IOS/iPhone performance.
App works totally fine for me. I've purchased single rides, youth pass, and a college pass with no issues. The only real issue is when you get on board and try to scan it on the bus and the machine has trouble reading the QR code. After riding so often I've learned that you have to lower the phone a bit more and it will usually scan it right away. You can also tap the screen and sometimes that helps. Overall, the app works fine for me and it's easy to use as well as convenient.
It's okay in a pinch if I don't have cash. The readers on the buses really struggle to read the barcode, and it just holds up the line. I'd much rather swipe a pass and be done with it, or I'd use TAP if that was an option. Otherwise, the app works just well enough to buy passes, though I'll be buying them on paper for the time being.
It's hard to really review this app after the overhaul of the UI and changes to its workings due to an awful glitch/bug. The app will start for 2-3 seconds and give me a "No Connection" error despite being connected to my homes WiFi. I've tried many things, but it seems like the best solution is to reinstall the app.
This app means you no longer have to carry cash to use OCTA. Online purchases are easy and quick. A bit slow to start up when you need to get on the bus though. Tickets are stored on your phone, so good if you happen to lose 4G connection when boarding, but bad because any phone upgrade or OCTA app update erases your purchased tickets! Before any upgrades you have to transfer the tickets to a very obtuse website callef Sherpa and then send them back to your phone. These steps are clunky, obtuse, and instructions are hard to find. A final word: don't activate a single ride ticket till you are on the bus. If you activate it and the bus doesn't come within about half an hour then the ticket expires.
Super convenient. Only complaint is it is hard for scanner to read. When one of the bus drive was a asked to look he said it wasn't good cause the busses were not moving even though you could see when I purchased it. I had to show him closing and reopening the app then select the ticket and still no moving buses. He made it seem like I was lying. I would make it 5 star when it's easier to actually use.
App keeps crashing. Some of us that dont carry cash are highly dependent on the app working. Unfortunately, when it isnt working the drivers on the buses arent aware of it at all, nor are considerate of how some of us dont carry cash, but still need to get to our destination. OCTA needs to do a better job at communicating with drivers when there are system wide problems, to make the rider experience smoother.
Its just convenient! Personally, I don't like to have cash in me so taking the bus was always a hassle. But with this app, when it can scan at least, it takes that hassle away and its not too difficut to transfer your information to a new phone either! Overall, its a good app.
Has locked me out multiple times when my account is still active. I have missed buses because of this. Does not recognize when reinstalled on the same device, so it lists multiple decides on my account now, and there is no way for me to remove the other devices from my account. Customer service has been little to no help. Zero follow up or follow through.
This app is stuck during payment for the last 30 minutes. I don't want to be charged if it won't go through and even canceling it is stuck. It didn't allow me to use Paypal as the entry forms were stuck too. I have used many apps to pay for things and this is the worst and now I'm late for the bus!
This App generally works fine, but it has been crashing since this morning. I made several attempts to troubleahoot (cleared cache, restarted phone, even uninstalled & re-installed the App), but it still crashes within a few seconds of being opened. Unreliable App.
Would be really useful if you could set the default way to pay for tickets so that you don't have to add a payment option everytime you buy a ticket. Other than that really cool app. Nice and smooth and has never crashed on me
Its pretty convenient, remembers past purchases and recommends them on the splash screen saving some time. If you use it, make sure yo take your phone off battery saver, sometimes they wnt to see the animater bus banner instead of thr QR code, and this doesn't work otherwise.
I got on the bus to pay and the app kept closing on it's own! I ended up having to pay $2 for my ride when I already paid $40 for my month pass. I even tried restarting my phone and nothing.. that's the last time I'll ever use this app. I say stick to the regular passes.
App doesn't work with latest update. It says "unable to access the app, make sure you have an internet connection" I'm not sure why i need an internet connection just to open the app. My internet works fine though anyway.
Bad app not to mention a rip off of time and money. 9 out of 10 times the scanner says my tickets are invalid. Which leaves half of the time the driver will let me on or not. Well today they didn't and your company still had taken my money, and I not only wasted an hour looking for change, but paying for it the second time has gotten old. For anyone using this app beware of updates as well as your tickets will go missing after updates as well. Uninstalling this scam app.
Works most of the time. However, as of recently the app keeps crashing on me when I try to load up a my pass. Had to pay to ride the busses I usually take simply because the app kept crashing, hugely unreliable.
Every purchase is going to be charged twice for about a week before the first charge is dropped. Very annoying if you budget your money, and frustrating to have to constantly make notes to check and make sure the first charge was dropped.
Edit: As of 12/11/18, app has been fixed and works as usual. As of 12/10/18, app crashes within first 5 seconds of launch which stops me from being able to purchase tickets or do anything with the app. Deleting cache and reinstalling did nothing.
It's easier to use the bus pass on the mobile phone than in a paper card. I don't have to fiddle around with my wallet or worry my card can be blown away by the wind. I just have my backpack on my back and comfortably carry my phone with the headset on and i just rest the app under the scanner when i board the bus. I've bought tickets for three months and had no issues with the app.
Usually works! Sometimes it doesn't and then the bus driver will let you through because they see you have the app. You have to hold it under a scanner on the bus and sometimes it scans and sometimes it doesn't, but the bus drivers know. Handier than carrying cash!
Do not pay though this app. The app stole my money. I paid for 5 rides on the bus and as soon as the transaction went through, White screen. I can't search for bus times, see my account info and of course no tickets show. Just a white screen with a tickets, maps and account info symbol at the bottom of the screen. You got me, whoever created this app.
I like the app although the reader in the coach can use an upgrade. It should scan easily but because it gives me trouble sometimes and I don't know whether it's the software or the hardware. So four stars 4 both.
Works as advertised. I wish the readers on the busses were better, though. Also, it would be nice to incorporate a schedule that doesn't involve downloading a PDF.
This is THE method of choice for paying for my bus trips from now on. I can purchase tickets online from the convenience of my home. Then I can pull up a QR code that can be scanned digitally on the bus. It makes the whole process easy, quick, and painless.
One of the best user friendly apps I've seen out there. If I can easily navigate through it, "I personally believe" anyone can.
Maybe just a freak coincidence, but this app never scans on my evening trip, and scans about 75% of the time in the morning. Both trips are on the (super old!) 71 buses. At first I thought it was an issue with the Galaxy S9 bezel screen, but now I'm pretty sure it's the bus scanners. The app should connect via Bluetooth, and only use the laser for phones without it.
