So far this app is awesome. When I know I need to be productive, I just hit the button and boredom sets in. Shortly after, I find something to do that doesn't involve me starting at my phone! Thanks to the devs in LA for coming up with this idea and putting it together! App does exactly what it says and the features though minimal, are perfect. I plan on paying to unlock my device just to give credit where it's due! Shout out from Denver!
Nice app , what I liked about this app is that it doesn't provide anything to actually pause the session . My phone really gets off the grid . I have found a loophole though , if you restart mobile while your off grid is in session , you can Uninstaller the app . I wish if I can't unintall this app at all
This app is exactly what I needed to help me get more sleep and be more productive. One issue is that if I had the phone on vibrate when it went off the grid, when the phone is freed after being off the grid for the specified amount of time it comes back with the sound on. This is causing some problems.
Good but wished it was harder to unlock for phone addicts like me. I thought it was meant to charge you or play an Ad, but it doesn't, it just unlocks. So I have the scheduler set to go off the grid from 9.30pm to 7am. The other night I forgot and swiped up and it played the video ad, but there is a box at the top, to close the ad instantly, which doesn't act as much of a deterrant. I asked it to go off the grid again, buy this time I was able to get back in with no video? Needs to be harder!
Absolutely the only app that actually works to get me off my phone. I set it to allow texts and nothing else nearly all the time. (Tip: turn off the "watch ad to unlock phone" feature.) You'll be amazed at how much new time you have to engage with the real world. Thank you!!! Note: sometimes an alarm will ring that I forgot about and I won't be able to turn it off. That's my fault, but usually if I'm quick enough I can slide the cancel button before the screen gets blocked by Off the Grid.
Seems to work very well to me. Workarounds I've used in similar apps - such as fast forwarding time via settings, or merging windows through split screen - don't seem possible here. I hope this remains true as it'll really help reduce the moments when I want to be off the phone but can't help it. Edit: That's better! Turning off notifications ensures I can't access settings to turn it off. I'll let you know if I find anything else. You're fast at responding :).
4 stars because it does what it says and really helps me. It could be 5 stars if these issues are fixed: It increases the volume of my phone to max when it turns off or when I try to use my phone when it's locked. Please fix this. I listen to music while I sleep I don't like the volume going to max when I'm not expecting it. Add an option to block all incoming notifications while it's on so I'm not getting texts. Android has focus mode and do not disturb modes that could be turned on. Thank you
Good for getting me off my phone at night. You can set 1 app as an exception when off grid, after that you have to buy the premium version to set more. You have the option to still receive phone calls while off grid, and there is an emergency feature so that you can make calls. Edit: In response to the developer's question, in order for me to give the app 5 stars it would need to be more reliable. Sometimes (maybe 2-3 times a month) it does not turn on at the scheduled time.
Everything looked great. Set up everything and hit go off grid. I clicked the make call button and then the home button. Was instantly taken to my home screen and I had full access to my phone. Went back to the app and it didn't even say anything about being in off grid mode. It was as if I never started it. Response: I tried with both checked and both unchecked. Same issue.
It's great when it works, but the schedule function frequently doesn't work. Only once has it actually kicked me off my phone at the scheduled time. The other nights it didn't do anything, and I had to manually turn it on, which defeats the purpose if you're trying to use it to beat a phone addiction. Update 5/30: I installed the new version, and it started working consistently. However now it's back to not turning on at the scheduled time and my app seems to be up to date.
when it works, it's great. but every now and then it just... doesn't start when the scheduled time arrives, and once it foes that it never starts again, I have to reinstall and set it all up again. which is what I'm doing now 👋 edit: also, when it does that it makes audible notification noises, which is no good when you're in bed trying to get to sleep
Incredible app! It takes less than 5 minutes to pick up and learn how it works, and will MASSIVELY improve your focus! Before I couldn't focus for even 25 minutes without getting distracted. Now after a couple months using the app, I can easily manage MULTIPLE hours without it. The developers deserve lots of credit. One small improvement that would make Off The Grid even better, is being able to track the time spent "off grid". Through a simple barchart or linegraph etc. Overall 10/10 app.
The app works well unless you need to end the timer early. I was aware of the fees or the fact you'd have to watch an ad (I enabled the ad option in the settings after reading the reviews)... what I was not prepared for was the fact the ad would not load... it took half an hour and multiple attempts to get a single ad to load... It was stuck on a page that said "loading a video ad" with four white dots, that would, at very random intervals, flash a different color like it was trying to load an ad
Developers: Don't have your text options automatically on. This sent a text to several people unnecessarily who I had unread texts from. I would rather have that function be introduced in the tutorial so I can turn it on as I need. Also don't say we can turn it off with watching an ad in the tutorial when that option has to BE MANUALLY TURNED ON. It's a cheap grab for a dollar payment and I don't appreciate it.
I really love the intention behind this app. I got this app because I struggle with turning off my phone before bed and this keeps me up all night which ends up impacting my energy the following day. So for week days, I schedule my phone to go "off grid" one hour before bed time with this app. However, it's so inconsistent with when it actually works. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't...it's fustrating.. please fix this bug as it seems to be a common issue according to user reviews!!
The app does what it says. HOWEVER- if you choose to turn off grid mode off before the timer is up IT WANTS YOU TO PAY MONEY to turn it off and use your phone. This is a great concept for an app, however paying money to use your phone seems ridiculous. I love the apps idea and design, but I do see this as a major flaw. Super disappointing for me because I was so excited to use this app.
It's a great app, you developers got the point: time is money :) I don't give 5 stars because the app has few bugs: - scheduled time sometimes doesn't start, even if the "start even if I'm using my phone" is checked; - from my Samsung S9 (Android 10) I can open settings from notification panel, and I can force stop the application, or uninstall it. I'm by-passing the situation with another app-blocker which blocks just settings. - a couple of time I unlocked without paying, and that's a big problem for you :) No idea why, maybe google play wasn't so fast in opening.
Overall, good. Unfortunately, there is a loophole and you can turn it off from off-grid mode by clicking on the android notification for “Is Running in the Background”. If you have a moment of weakness, then this loophole will be an issue. If I can get that notification to stop, then this would work great.
It's great when it works. I don't know why but after a month or so of using it and it stopped working. I'm trying to reset my schedules to see if it works again although it's still annoying that it's glitching like this. Edit: I have not recently updated my phone as I believe it still has the latest update since when I installed the app.
Love this app. It's been very helpful for changing habits and increases productivity for me big-time. I haven't been using it for too long, but I can see my attention span increasing with time. My only wish is that you had this app for PC as well. To be able to access nothing but Microsoft Word for a few hours (e.g. between coffee breaks) in my line of work would be even better :)
This is probably one of the worst apps ever. I made one schedule for nighttime and one for daytime. Apparently, the daytime schedule didn't work at all because my phone did not turn off. I could use all my apps. So I restarted the app and it still didn't work. I restarted my phone and that didn't work either. Thinking that maybe having more than one schedule is a premium feature, I decided to set my nighttime schedule to daytime as well. Boy, did that do the trick! My phone immediately locked and I had to pay a "small fee" to unlock it. This small fee might not seem like that much, but considering almost EVERY function in the app costs a "small fee", lots of money is to be made for the company who developed this app. Nowhere in the information in PlayStore does it say that so many features cost money. Neither is it clear in the app. Why don't you just have a simple monthly subscription for these features? Nah, of course not. You wouldn't make heaps money then. All in all, nothing you want to do works unless you pay for it. But does the app say that apparently more than one schedule doesn't work? NO. 0/10 do not recommend to anyone.
Awful. I was playing around with the settings to see how it works. The schedule feature comes on as I'm looking at it. It does not give you the option to override and so I had to pay 89pence to use my phone. Absolute con of an app. I uninstalled as quick as I could but now can't get a refund. Will be contacting Google play as this is a scam app.
I like the idea, but sometimes I must get back into my phone and don't have the money, can there be an option to use features like settings, clock and torch? There are times that require the use of a phone. Also the ads feature doesn't work and every time someone texts it sends a link for the app to them.
It's a good app but every second time I am using it its asking me permission to enable notifications which is already on..... So again everyday I have to put the schedule.. Plz help!!
Not bad. It could be better, and I wish there were a greater number of apps you could whitelist for free. Also, if you want to be let in early, it costs a dollar if you have disabled video ads, which I think is a bit much. It's a good idea, but not everyone has money to do that and they might need their phone to access something right then. It does run well and would work for some people's needs. Edit: I do think this is a good app. I see the point in the dollar to get in, as the idea of the app is to help people be on their phones less. This is the sort of app you should look over to make sure it matches your needs, which people should be doing anyway. I do have a suggestion. You might consider having different backgrounds available for when the phone is off. All that being said, this is a good app that I plan to continue using. Thank you!
Very useful app, just be prepared at first to go and look through the FAQ to figure out how to use it to the best of its functionality. And if you're addicted to your phone like I am, falling to using that as a distraction from doing more real stressful things in like you might find that when you're first using it you'll feel a little bit lost for things to do. Go make a list and start on them.
Works.beautfully for me to get off my phone Update: Some sort of difficulties around travel/time changes; i woke up today on a WORK trip and had to pay to unlock because the app had taken me off the grid for 24 hours - and i therefore didn't have access to maps, or the capacity to text my colleagues with whom i was travelling. As a result, i may have to uninstall lit. i think this is some kind of weirdness with a scheduled off-the-grid from 10pm to 6:30am - i had a similar, but shorter and less problematic bout of this when we went through the fall time change from daylight savings a week or so ago. To be clear, when this happens, the program doesn't just operate on the previous time with the scheduled off-the-grid, it actually does weird, non-scheduled things.
When it works I love this app. It's the only one I've found that, if set up right, doesn't have loopholes to get back into the phone. My only beef with it is that even though I've scheduled time to go off the grid every day sometimes the phone won't shut off. If this glitch could be fixed I would give this 5 stars because I love being able to schedule time where I just have a phone without all the distractions.
Good app, but there is a bug that notifications will not turn back on once being turned off on Pixel 4. Sometimes the schedule doesn't automatically lock the phone even when the app is open, not sure why. Overall it's a really useful app Edit: when I turn on the button for specific notification types in the app info page, they immediately turn back off when I leave the page. They were on until I turned off the notification button for the first time then they didn't work anymore.
This was great for about 2 weeks. Signed up for the paid subscription for 5 apps since I have google home and other things I need if my phone is on lockdown and everything was fine. Now it won't let me select most of my apps - only the most basic ones like clock or calculator. Whats the point then!!!??? Support has been no help! Super disappointed.
