This app continually told me that north is south and south is north, until I discovered a trick. After opening the app, turn the phone over, so that the screen faces the floor and is parallel with the floor. Then when you turn the phone so that the screen faces upwards again, you will see that the app has corrected itself. No need to go to Google Maps.
This app is the very few app which can show accurate direction constantly. The only thing which needs improvement is that the screen will freeze and you have to press the screen off button once to see the exit button. Anyway it's no big deal as accurate is the top priority
UPDATE: Unable to find a way to fix the East/West mix up. There's nothing to defend-it doesn't work for me. I agree with the reviewers saying how beautiful this app is...reminiscent of old world maps & naval navigation. My problem is that I live in the high desert of the Rocky Mountains & this app has East & West 180° out. My background is in aviation so I know this app is wrong. I will look too see if there is a way to calibrate & fix this before I uninstall & will further update my results.
Excellent App. Looks beautiful. Moves really smoothly. May require you to move your phone in a figure 8 a few times ( I did) once it's configured to your phone it works a treat. Best of all there's no adverts. Many thanks.
Looks really nice, but has the N/S reversed: my home faces almost exactly north, but this app says it faces almost exactly south. Highly inaccurate and doesn't change with calibration. Must be an issue with the app because my handset has a geomagnetic sensor, and I have another compass app which gives the right reading, as tested against a physical compass. This app is no use to me; therefore uninstalled. Pity, it's the most aesthetically pleasing compass I've seen!
Echoing what others have said... this is beautifully simple (no options, at least I can't see any and don't need any) and simply beautiful (classic maritime look and feel, no ads). Top-notch.
Simply simple and beautifully realistic and simple graphic of a compass. No advertising and does the job a compass is expected to perform...point north.

Great compass app with no ads. I just wish it had an option to make the compass spin instead of just the hands.
this is by far the most beautiful compass app ever, simply work as intended, if this can be placed on homescreen as widget or live wallpaper this will be perfect.

The app is cute but where are the controls? I need to be able to input my coordinates to see the true north (no GPS please, I'm not giving that permission)
Didn't work for me north south were over 180 degrees off and I tried the go to Google maps calibration steps with no success
No ads need I say more "maintain course, velocity and direction" works well

Totally wrong! What good is a compass that relies on gps? Effectively, it is NOT a compass!
All I get is a picture of a compass. Nothing else. The needle does not move.
