OLED Saver
With a traditional LCD screen, a light is projected through the array of pixels to increase or decrease their luminosity, and brightness adjustments are made by simply dimming this light. But with AMOLED displays, each pixel emits its own light—so in order to decrease your screen's brightness, the electrical current flowing through these pixels has to be reduced in some way. It's this reduced current that can make your screen seem to pulse or flicker.
This application solves these AMOLED problems by replacing the system functions for automatic brightness adjustment, which dims the pixels displayed on the screen without having to reduce the current flowing through them. This means it can keep the physical brightness of the screen at a high enough level to avoid screen flicker problems, while automatically reducing the actual display brightness according to ambient light, protecting your eyes. It reduces screen brightness by turning off some pixels and adding a transparent black mask layer, and then provides you with an easy-to-access control bar to further adjust the brightness. Another benefit is allowing you to darken your screen further than the minimum stock brightness level.
After the android o version, this app still effective in the status bar, notification drop-down menu or lock screen.

Not a perfect fix but far better than anything else I've found. My Samsung S9 has this issue where sometimes only a few lines at the top of the phone would appear. I found a few workarounds (like tapping the Always On Display before turning on the screen) but this made it so that the screen always turns on all the way. It does affect the picture somewhat, but I think that's a hardware issue with my phone, not the app. Not a total fix but the best improvement I've seen.
It's amazing that this app can cover lock screen and notification panel! However I found it has a small problem on my S8+. The very top of the screen, which is about one third of the notification bar, can't be covered. I'm using XDA's navigation gesture to hide my navigation bar, I guess this might be the reason that cause the problem? Because when I turn "hide navigation bar" function off then the problem disappeared. And I have tried to use "immersive blacklist", "show navigation bar in selected apps" functions in XDA's app, none of them worked.
The app is just amazing. I would appreciate if the brightness transition is smooth and please add one option so that the app should also turn on after phone is restarted. ( one bug that i noticed on my samsung note 9 is that the toggle in quick panel does not change its color whether off or on (this problem is only just after restart). Please fix it.) And thanks a lot for the app.
My Samsung Galaxy S9+ run into the "green tint" issue. After one week the problem gets even worse, being impossible to see what's on the screen. Since Samsung is unable (or unwilling) to fix the problem caused by themselves with a firmware update, this app is my last chance to keep using my mobile without having to replace the whole screen. When the device warms beyond 40° C the screen keeps green or purple, but OLED Saver makes perfectly possible to read texts. Thank you for this awesome app!
THANK YOU for this wonderful app. Fix the screen flickering issue on xiaomi mi 8. the flickering was so bad that screen would just turn off and won't turn on making the device unusable. But when I was able to use the phone & managed to install this app. the problem immediately went away. i love you for making this app available. my you continue to be of service to many.
I've experience strained eye and headache when using low brightness on my S9+. Took another phone and adjusted until I saw as few lines as possibl, had to turn on max base brightness in the app settings. Eyes immediately felt a lot more relaxed. The only negative with this so far is that the always on display becomes so dark that you can hardly see anything. Turned it off since I rarely use that anyway.
By no means will it completely reverse hardware faults (damn the S9's screen), but it's a lifesaver to mitigate it's effects. It's kind of complicated but you'll eventually understand. Can't quite get it to the absolute minimum brightness, but for what it does it's all I could ask for. You can witness it working if you compare it on and off.
The app is good, but i have been getting problems lately. When I use my apps, OLED SAVER just stops the service randomly withought me knowing, I wasn't even doing anything. Also when i go in landscape mode, a black box in the middle of the screen with a low opacity appears for some reason. I hope you fix this soon.
My Samsung Note 9 screen started acting funny all of a sudden one morning. It was perfectly ok the previous night. Nothing worked. Samsung Service centre were charging Rs 18000 for screen change. Downloaded this app and it has saved the phone. You have to play around with the settings to get the best combination. There is still some flicker, but atleast the screen is now usable. Thanks
This app works for the Xperia 10 iii which has a green washed out screen when the brightness is set low in a dark room. It effectively eliminates the green washed out look. I recommend that the dev add a timer mode, to automatically disable it during the day and enable it at night. Since the issue only really comes up in the dark, it doesn't need to be used most of the time.
My Samsung S9+ have black/green tint issues like many others. I enabled Always on and tap on screen before unlock the phone ok. But close proximity while pick up phone, etc, the issues happened which is really unacceptable. This app minimise the issue and make the phone readable though display still green. With the above 2 workaround I hope Samsung can honestly admit their fault and provide a permanent solution with so many of us around the world having such problems. Great App!
This works great but only covers the middle part of the screen in landscape rotation. I don't see an setting to make it work when on rotated phone. Only the middle part where it would cover in upright portrait mode is good, the sides of screen are super bright cuz of underlying system brightness all the way up. If using the phone in normal upright position it's great. I checked this between regular brightness (app off) with the camera of another phone and it took the strobing away.
So far it's a decent bandaid to a serious problem with my AMOLED device. I'll update this review as I go along... Update: I love this app! It's fantastic once you set it up properly. No more flickering, but of course this isn't a permanent fix, as it's more of a bandaid to cover the problem of OLED/AMOLED screens.
***A life Saver for Samsung Note 9*** Recently i started facing an issue where my Note9's screen used to turn yellowish green with lines on it. I thought that after a software update this problem would get fixed. However that the problem didnot get fixed. I was suggested to change the entire display which is extremely expensive. This app has really helped in removing that bug. I keep this activated all the time and i am no longer facing the screen problem. Thank you so much for this.
Great idea and it does eliminate PWM, but isn't reliable on Xiaomi phones with Pie. It sets the brightness too low, often stays at lowest brightness even in sunny environment and often just stops working (It disappears from notifications and does nothing, despite the fact that the app is running (Locked, all permissions given and no battery saver for the app). I've taken a lot of time playing with settings, tried everything, it simply doesn't work properly. Hope there will be an update fixing it
Wow I have to give full 5 stars for OLED Saver! I have Galaxy 5s which has had screen flickering problems which in turn wouldn't allow me to do things like make or take calls from messenger as my screen would flicker off and be very difficult to turn back on. I'm so so happy to be able to use my phone again with full capabilities! This application is AMAZING! Thank you guys so so much you rock!
Updating my review. The flashing went away. Line displayed. But. The flashing is much worse than a line appearing every so often. I erased app when seeing the line. Phone was stable for over a week. Longest in months. Phone flashing again. I will keep this app rolling. See how it does after a wewk or two regardless of any line coming. Thanks a lot. I believe the app did something. It must have tweeked the software to work better. Software learned the app settings. Continued good after deleting.
Hi there, Amazing app and really works but I'm noticing that when turned on (lowest brightness) it's messing with my touch-sensitivity to the point that it turns out glitchy. I'm using the Samsung Galaxy Tab s5e with this app. Not sure why this is happening but it would be great if it could be resolved !:) Best,
I've been experiencing green bars/black screen, turning the brightness completely up/down fixed this issue (but screen has green tint) but then my screen was dark or the battery drained too fast, after downloading this app I can control the brightness through the app and it works, with this app the screen still has a greenish tint but no green bars or black screen at any brightness. Only I had to set basical physical brightness to maximum, then control actual brightness through the app. Love it!
I don't have clear understanding of how it works, but it does have a 95% effect on PWM flickering of my screen. I can still see lines at 1/250s Camera tuning, but its a lot less than when I am not using this App. Can it be possible for you to further improve it to remove 100% of the noticable Flicker ? I luckily stumbled onto this app while on Google search. Alot of people complaining of flicker on reddit, this App deserves marketing. This App deserves alot of donations. Thank you very much 😊
This saved me from spending $200 for repair! Suggestion: I will really appreciate it if you can find a way to prevent flickering when screen is dim or when phone is in a dark place. I won't mind paying a few bucks for a Pro version for your app is already perfect as a free one.
Works great on my S9. I have the problem that the screen sometimes shows faded colours with some flickering and this app/add-in makes it a lot better. In my case, not a fix (probably faulty screen) but definitely makes it a lot better.
My Samsung S9+ was just our of warranty and started having issues with black screens / flickering yellow/green lines. I tried for over a week to figure it out. This app fixed those issues immediately. So easy to use too! Amazing!
Downloaded it to fix the low brightness pale green on my Xperia 10 III. Perfectly fixed the problem. However, If you put it into landscape, the overlay won't rotate with it and you'll see a dark patch in the middle of the screen. Would come back and give it 5 stars if the only issue that's preventing me from using it 24/7 got fixed.
Amazing app .. my samsung s9 phone was showing green lines and flickering between 15 to 85% brightness , all of a sudden. Service centre confirmed screen damage and replacement cost was almost the price of a 2nd hand s9. Read about this app in a samsung forum and tried it. It does the trick and I can survive with this now !!! Kudos to the entire team :)
Fantastic app. My note 9 was giving the green screen with horizontal lines and unresponsive. I had to lock the phone and wait for 2 minutes before unlocking. Tried factory reset and updating software but didnt work as well. Chanced upon this app in a youtube comment and miraculously it worked! Jus install and the app will work its magic itself
Amazing! This saved my phone, I thought my galaxy S9 was screwed and all I could find for info was that the screen was probably garbage. I got a replacement phone and then it broke and I had to use my old S9, I came across this app doing some searching and it literally worked like a miracle. I had a dimmed different colored screen with lines in it that got worse when changing brightness, especially the lower I went. This was a miracle and made my really bad day much better. It works great, but there are two major issues: In YouTube, you have to close the player layout manually. (It does not dissappear automatically in 3-4 seconds, just like usual) Also, it would be great if the mask don't appear in the screenshots. Every time when I take screenshot, I have to disable the filter manually, in order to take a proper screenshot. Greetings!
