On Rails - Live Train Times & Widget (IAP)

• Recent 5-star review "Better than National Rail, TFL and Trainline apps. Smooth, not clunky or jumpy. Great so far."

This beautiful slick app displays live departure and arrival times for the next two hours for all stations in the National Rail network.

Find stations near you and see their live departure boards.

Mark favourites, view recently departed services and get live station and service information.

Set your home and work stations and find nearby services.

Favourites are shown as departure board cards on the landing screen.
Intuitive colour coded text is used to show services running on time, delayed or cancelled.

Drag and drop to rearrange them or swipe left to delete. Nice and simple.

Switch between departures and arrivals as well as origin and destination stations.

Auto-switching of origin and destination stations based on user location is available in the commuter pack.

Commuter Pack

Install the commuter pack as an in-app purchase.

• Get valuable details on fastest trains, train operator, number of coaches, trip duration and arrival times (details shown where available from the feed).
• Station auto-switching for departures between two stations based on user location.

Widget

Install a widget on your home screen as an in app purchase.

The widget offers a number of powerful features to facilitate your train journey:

• Tap on the station title to view all listed station services for the next two hours in the app
• Tap on a service to view its details in the app
• Toggle between departures and arrivals as well as origin and destination stations
• Configure auto-update time period so the widget automatically refreshes itself
• Shortcuts to search and nearby stations in the app

Please note that we aren't able to provide a widget "try before you" buy option as it's not supported by the Google In-App Purchase API. If you buy the widget and are not satisfied there is an option to request a refund.

Additionally in the app, useful details like number of coaches, train operator, platform number and reasons for delay or cancellation are shown where available.
The current location, source and destination of a train service are displayed.
The actual and scheduled arrival or departure time are shown at each calling point.

Includes services from all train operators with data aggregated in a real-time data feed from National Rail Enquiries.

The app is divided into the following sections:

• Find Stations
• Live Train Departure and Arrival Times
• Nearby Stations
• Favourites with station and departure switches
• Your Places
• Service details
• TFL tube status
• Widget

The idea is great. But I'm fed up with the widget not updating. Having to delete and replace it. And manually update it. Reliability is poor which is a shame as the intended functionality is good. Just can't trust the numbers I see on my screen when I'm in a hurry which is when commuters need it the most. Update : re applying the widget seems to fix the problem for now. Many thanks for the fast and friendly service from the developers.

Really useful. Paid features good value if you commute regularly. Just a slight glitch, which I'd perhaps tolerate in a free app, in that tapping the widget header doesn't take you to the list of services for the next 2 hours. After contacting support, who replied very quickly, it appears you have to tap the station name, not the top of the widget, but the station name disappears if you scroll down, which you would if you couldn't see your service listed and therefore need the full list 🙄

I commute. This has a nice UI. A pleasant experience so far but I'm Trialling this for a month. It will have to remain stable and provide the information I need when asked. I don't see a journey planner feature so that you can see times of trains at a particular time rather than those leaving in the near future. As a suggestion the widget should be available as part of the trial period for the commuter pack. I'm not going to pay up front for something if I can't trial it.

Generally good, but it has some strange UI design and bugs removing favourite journeys. Edit: Thanks for the super fast reply. Yes, the left swipe did work. The left swipe detection is a bit off though, you seem to have to swipe twice. There is a bug where you cannot remove this favourite journey by deselecting the heart icon. Have your fifth star back for the quick reply.

This is a great app that I use for my daily commute, it is always correct and I can rely on to tell me correct information. There is one thing I would like to see added; maybe a search bar after you've clicked on a station that when you enter a station name, it shows you all services that stop there. That would be really useful! I definitely recommend this app and I look forward to seeing what happens further down the line!

Bought the widget as a replacement for NR has same functionality but is showing all departures from work and home station rather than just my commute options which is annoying as have to wade through services I don't care about. Edit: managed to fix my issue hadn't clicked the favourite button in the widget itself for my commute stations so it wasn't pulling through the data, once done works great and does exactly what I want.

Good app & widget, which would have been a suitable replacement for the failing 'National Rail' app, however; 1) the widget is not free (£4), 2) apparently there is a need for an additional 'commuters pack' for some functionality (I'm currently in a trial period). These two points alone will make this a deal breaker, as soon as I need to pay more for this app/widget. 3) The widget often won't refresh on my Note 9.. *Edit* The widget won't work with any level of power saving mode turned on.

Its better and cleaner than the national rail app and doesnt kill my battery like the NR one does by scanning bluetooth. Just paid for the widget simply to support the developer because you can get away without the widget. Edit March 2022: suddenly using a lot of battery despite no uodates.. Not sure why...Edit: Reboot of phone seems to have fixed it ...

Great usable app - what National Rail should be doing themselves. It took me a moment to work out how to remove a favourite (go into the favourite and unclick the heart) but otherwise very intuitive. One improvement would be the ability to search for the train you are actually on, to see real time info of delays and expected ETA.

At first I really like this app and paid for the extras. However it has become more and more unreliable, not switching stations automatically (even though it is set up and paid for) and not updating times. National rail widget looks nicer and is free and has worked perfectly for me

Wanted to try out the widget that is in the name of the app. The national rail app widget mostly works for me but keeps crashing so thought I'd give this a go. Description says it is an optional add on. Attempting to add the widget tells me it had an error retrieving data. Another reviewer suggests widget is only available if you pay. Well that's that then. I don't mind paying for something, but I'm not paying until I've tried it out and found out if it works for me. Uninstalled. Back to NR...

UPDATE - SEE END.Have bought both additional services and can't add a favourite to the widget nor show my home and work stations. also, sldespite buying the auto switching isn't working and always clicks to off. Very disappointed considering the reviews. HOWEVER THEY DID GET BACK TO ME QUICKLY AND SORTED IT, EXCEPT HOME/WORK ISSUE THEY ARE WORKING ON. THANKS

Several times now when i just need to know platform the widget has got stuck. Clicking it makes no difference. No response. No update Refresh the internet. I habe to go into the app and search for trains or go on Trainline which ends up being quicker. If it wasnt for the convenience of the widget would have uninstalled long ago.

Does a good job so far, but if you know my home and work destinations, it would be great if you could display the arrival times for each train on the favourites screen! This is just as important as departure times. Thanks

Str. C. May 29, 2021

I've used it for a fees weeks and it's good. It has once told me the wrong platform. My main complaint is that it doesn't give information far enough in advance to plan a journey - even after starting the journey.

BEST app for checking if your train is on time. Info is just there as soon as you open. Drill downs work well too. ONE REQUEST.. please can you increase the number of rows shown when selecting 'recent services'? Another 5-10 would be very useful.

B. P. Aug 28, 2019

Over priced for what it can do. The base model is free, but to enable it to compare to other free apps you'll have to pay additional fees. And if you don't, it'll keep reminding you that you'll need to buy the additional features.

Excellent app - responds quickly using the national rail api, looks excellent, presents the information useful and clearly, simple to use. Bought the widget - worth the money. Has made life much easier after years of battling along with the awful Nat Rail app itself. Thank you, Devs.

One of the best train apps out there. Love the commuter pack too which gives you the number of carriages, total journey time a homepage widget. Highly recommended this

Sej. B. Sep 14, 2021

Very sleek and good design. But accuracy is poor. Didn't show my fastest train to work today (where I can change at a station instead of a direct line). Wasted my money on the widget (they should've offered on a trial basis)

Nei. H. Feb 13, 2022

Really useful app for both using trains and picking up passengers. No more hanging around!

Gra. Jan 3, 2021

Paid for widget. Doesn't seem to be able to display both home to work and work to home services without getting confused and swapping them to be the same.

And. L. Aug 20, 2021

Widget doesn't update all the time causing huge confusion and missed trains. Other than that it's a great app.

Ste. R. Mar 10, 2019

Really good app, a lot better than the official National Rail Enquiries one. Responsive developer who acted quickly when I highlighted a minor issue. Turns out it is a rail industry problem beyond their control.

Good app. Like how.you can save your frequent travels and reverse them easily. Clever feature but so very simple too.
