Onkyo Remote

Disappointed. Could not install app on Android box where I have all my music and streaming services stored. Streaming audiofiles from Android phone is rubbish. You can't search, can't play playlists, next song is not played, no option to create playlist or add next song... Such a good idea, but looks like the app was made by two drunk students.

I use this App to drive my TX-8150. The app works but it could be much better. The GUI design is nothing special. Usually I play the music from a USB drive. I am particularly annoyed by the difficulty of looking for a song or disk. There is actually no search option. Then if I scroll my list of the artist in the usb, I select one of the and the I go back to the list, the list goes back to the A and does not have the memory of the position. So I have to scroll back to where I was.... Not convenient when you have 100d of disks. That drives me crazy.

Stopped working with my TX-NR545 recently. It's been perfect up until now. Looks like I'm not the only one with this issue, please fix it! UPDATE: Found a fix online! I had to edit the device name in my router so that it was only letters and numbers (no spaces or dashes). After that, do a reboot of your receiver (for mine, it is turning the device on, then press and hold CBL/SAT button, then press and hold Power button. You'll see it say "CLEAR", and it should be good after that.

A very poor and unintuitive GUI! Difficult to navigate functionality and to get things done quickly. Why did you bother? Oh,you didn't. Onkyo, feel free to contact me for ideas and consultancy to make this app fit for purpose. Disappointing when your hardware is so great. Why let yourself down?!!! You have failed to integrate human factors.

Find I have to keep putting in the password for the nas drive. Interface is sooo basic and have to navigate to music every time. Seem to spend nearly as much time trying to get it working as playing music! I've tried to find something else to control it but ot no good. My other player is a different make and works so much better its in a different world.

Can't find receiver. Worked ok but cannot find receiver which is connected to my router via ethernet cable. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no luck. Cannot even get to a settings menu to search for and connect. Don't expect much from this app. I may be replacing this receiver before to long and the lack of functionality of this app will factor into the decision of what brand to purchase.

I have experienced sudden, rapid and unexpected MAX volume increases whilst using this app on my wireless home network. This has resulted in the destruction of three speakers. Surely your developers should be able to incorporate some type protection system to prevent sudden volume increases from within the app or within the firmware of the receiver. Proper effective volume control is essential feature of any audio related app or hardware, and it is severely lacking in this app. I'm very unhappy.

Onkyo needed to update the app permissions!! No permission to access the network. No connection to my NT838 since the upgrade to Android 9. Working again. I say again working again. But Onkyo never redponded to one post here!🤨 Before that I thought it was a great app. Really wonderful to be able to control almost every aspect of my receiver. I expect better support for expensive hardware.

Downloaded this for the first time ~1 month ago and it worked great with my tx nr747 for 3 weeks. All of a sudden the app doesn't recognize my AVR. No network settings have changed. Uninstalled and reinstalled the app to no avail. What happened?? After a factory reset of my AVR it is back on the network and visible to the app. Tedious to redo all my settings but I really do like this app when it works.

Very often the APP can't connect to my c-n 7050. Only restarting the network player helps. It is also very unresponsive and slow. But as the Onkyo's display is quite limited and browsing a large music database by remote and the inadequate display is a real pain, there is no real alternative to using the APP.

It works great when it connects but all too often I have to either reboot the receiver or the phone's wifi connection. Sometimes that latter does not work. And even when its able to connect, the app has to search and reconnect after anytime the phone goes to sleep or I switch away and back to the onkyo app.

Sept 27. 2020 This app has stopped working since the release back in mid August. I have been unable to connect the app to my Onkyo HT-R693 using WIFI. I release this is an older amp but until recently I had had no problem connecting my phone to the amp to control it. Are there any plans to fix this bug? Update on Sept 17 failed to fix the issues. Please fix the asap. Was a great app until August 20 update. Can no longer connect my devices to my receiver over wifi

This app has 10% of the features of the OEM remote. It lets you control the volume and choose the input but it doesn't let you change the channel. That's one of the most basic features of a remote. Onkyo could've at least put in the "guide/top menu" button. Fail, epic fail.

Hey, just connect to the only receiver you've ever connected to. Do not look for other devices just connect to the only device you've ever connected to. Incredibly simple and you make it difficult. Ridiculous.

UPDATE YOUR APP, it no longer works. Sees the receiver but won't connect to it. Currently shopping other brands to replace it that actually update their app. The interface was bad enough still looking and functioning like it's a decade old but now to not even function is beyond frustrating.

This app is no longer working with my 4 yr old Onkyo receiver (Tx-nr636). This will be the last Onkyo I purchase. Their support is poor and only interested in selling. An earlier version didn't work, but have several years using an earlier version worked successfully. Including controlling receiver remotely, even from miles away.

Fails to connect to the amp more often than it does. Killing and relaunching the app helps, but usually I just mutter few expletives and get up from the sofa to do whatever wanted to do manually. Would appreciate complete set of settings via the app too, otherwise there is very little the app can do.

Unstable. I set this thing up with a wired connection and a static IP and I *still* have to occasionally reset my receiver. On WiFi it's basically unusable. Lots of people on the forums have my problems, company obviously doesn't care to fix its firmware/software. Next time I buy a receiver I'll buy a different brand.

Crashes as soon as you open it. Same result on different devices, even iOS devices. UPDATE: apparently the recent Sonos update is somehow crashing Onkyo apps. Onkyo updated their "Controller" app and it now operates normally. This app hasn't received the update so far. I have two receivers, a NR636 and a NR656. The NR656 could use either app but the NR636 can only use this app. It's been a month and still no word on when this app will be updated. Very disappointing.

I gave up on this app. There's a better one! Enhanced Controller for Onkyo developed by Mikhail Kulesh is excellent. I had some problem getting it to connect to my Onkyo receiver, emailed the developer, he emailed back within 24 hrs. with the solution! Thank you Mikhail Kulesh.

Has been working up until recently, now it isn't connecting to the receiver at all. Judging by all the negative reviews lately it must have been a recent app update that has rendered it useless. Very disappointing as it was working very well for the previous 3 years.

Used to work great with my android phone. Now there is always a Connection failed. Reconnect or select other. TX NR646. How disappointing. My unit is connected on line via hard line cat 5 switched it from wifi still no luck. Im connected on line because I can use my Harmony Logitech remote and control my onkyo no problem.

Worked well until Android Pi. Now it won't function at all on my Pixel 2. Disappointing. Will gladly rate 5 stars when it is updated. It is now working well again and the app has impressive breadth of functionality, if a bit wonky.

It poorly works. This app cannot find my device. It only does so once the device is on. I either turn it on manually or use regular remote to turn it on. otherwise the app cannot do so. It can only turn the device off. other than these, it works to do some controls, such as sound. developer needs to work on it more.

Broken App! Use to find my receiver on my network, now can't find it unless they are in the same subnet...and even then half the time it can't see it. Worst part is there is NO option to manually enter the ip either! Don't waist your time with this broken app!

Used to be a decent app. It was nice to be able to control zone 2 while I was IN zone 2. For the last month, it just crashes immediately on my S9. I reinstalled, I cleared data and cache, but it still just crashes immediately. Not updated since 2016?!? Why? Lame.

It's been hit and miss for several years with this app. I've toyed with it quite a bit and found that most of my problems with it had to do with my network (2.4 vs 5ghz,vpn,etc). Once I got those dialed in, it's worked flawlessly. Just my experience. Using TX-NR626

This remote is so basic. It's actually overwhelming how basic this remote is. I think a consequence of its basic basicicity is that that it works just fine. I would have rated it a basic 3 stars, but gave it 5 because it does not only what I NEED it to do, but it also does what it's SUPPOSED to do. Onkyo TX RZ 800
