This app is touch and go. When it's working it's great. Half the time the alerts don't come up. For the price they want, I'll be cancelling the subscription and probably buy one of the trackers off Amazon that also monitor the vehicle at a fraction of the cost. If this app was more reliable......
this is the Facebook of car apps as far as collecting data. OnStar and collects just about everything you do from the time you wake up to how many times you scratch your butt during the day if you read the fine print. I read it and it was pretty nauseating. it made me not sign up. now trying to cancel the account is proven to be impossible because they absolutely do not want you to. been trying to close the acct for 30 minutes now and there is no easy way. I now Very much dislike OnStar.
Bad update. Ever since the may 2022 update the app will not open. I have a galaxy z fold. My family uses this app a lot. Need a fix asap.
Doesn't seem to work without wifi. Updating review to say I was wrong. It doesn't work even with wifi. It consistently does not show me where my family is. It freezes on 1 hour ago or 2 hours ago or 3 days ago. Refreshing doesn't help. It used to work fine but stopped working about a month ago.
Have been getting the "Updating OnStar Guardian" background message all day. This is a huge drain on the battery. No family member is pinging my location. The app is just constantly updating (no update shown as needed in the app store). Thank goodness I have a battery case for my phone or I'd be dead in the water. I'm not going to send an email to where the reply will suggest sending it, just fix what is causing this constant update. Samsung Galaxy S10e (and Galaxy S22).
Location status for added family members does not work. As the main account holder I setup Guardian on my phone then sent an invite, as directed, to my husband. He was sent a text with a link to download the app and a code. Long story short, all he sees on his phone is my location and there is no way on my phone to access him. I tried unistalling and reinstalling with the same result. I'm done now. The app will be coming off both phones.
I can't give a real review b/c when I try to log on for the first time, I put in my email and I'm found...on problems. Then I put in the password, the correct password, and I got some sort of error saying "We are experiencing technical difficulties completing your request, please try again (500). I've tried multiple times for 2 or 3 days and still same message.
DO NOT RELY ON THIS APP FOR ASSISTANCE. They advertise when you connect it to your account that your family is covered by "your" onstar plan. THIS IS NOT TRUE. This app *only* covers running out of gas or needing a jumpstart. It does NOT cover any other type of assistance. Only the OnStar app inside your GM vehicle covers additional types of service.
GREAT APP AND SERVICE! I was thinking about canceling my service but with the family members added on, I am keeping it. The App family icons stop working. My wife's and daughter's I have to have them delete it and I resend the code. My grand daughter will be added on but I have lost confidence in this working properly.
Garbage. I pay $40/mo for this and OnStar to be told my son is 949.1 miles away and has been there since 1/1/22. One of my daughters is 15 feet away from me and her location finally updated, but says she has been at this location since 12/30/21. Junk app. Don't tell me to email, text, call, etc. I've done that numerous times and nothing changes except the excuse of why it isn't working.
I have not been able to get past the set-up stage. Is the problem of the App or my relatively new phone? The App does not appear on my list of Apps in settings in order to turn on one of its properties. I've noticed quite a few other 1 Star reviews. When did these reviews start to appear, and when was the App last revised?
When I first installed this app, it worked great I was impressed. It showed real-time movement, then after update that changed how the app worked. Right now I am disappointed, I'm paying for something that doesn't work!!
I can't get past the setup stage, I enter my phone number and it doesn't send me the verification code. I logged out and back in, restarted my phone, uninstalled and reinstalled the app and hit resend a million times.
When we first installed last Spring the application was wonderful, no glitches, showed real time location. In the past month, we have Uninstalled a few times and the app will work and then it just freezes where a family member was 24 hours ago. App has become useless for my family. My husband is a an OTR truck driver and the intent of using this app was for peace of mind for us both. GM/Onstar - Not meeting expectations for your Brand. Do Better!
Great concept, but I literally uninstall it anytime I am going to be away from a phone charger for the day. the amount of battery drain from this app running in the back ground is ridiculous. just normal phone use it went from 100% to 20% in 9 hours
The app no longer updates where our location is and it just one day stopped showing one member and now we can't add her again. Tried the uninstal/install and even trying to make a new account that won't work as I'm already paying for this account. It did work well for the first few months.
Doesn't work on my Pixel 6 Update: I found the problem and it wasn't the app and Pixel 6. Apparently it was involving the log in and what OnStar had in their system concerning my account. I figured it out and it's working.
OnStar guardian doesn't seem to be working suggesting the app has a bug. Hope you can fix it please
Disappointed! Worked well when I first downloaded. Now won't update location of people in my family. I have Uninstalled app and installed again still doesn't work. Sent an email like they told me to and no response. I guess they dont care that their app doesnt work like it should
Disappointed. After installing the app on my phone, I wanted to install it in my wife's phone and couldn't as the message said the version of the spp is not compatible with her device. How can you put out a product that isn't compatible with ALL devices??
Used to be able to see my family member moving throughout the map. Now I have to close the app and go back in to see where they moved to. Frustrating and disappointing. The app used to be awesome. Not sure it's worth it anymore since it doesn't show movements live. Would love to know how to fix this. Our locations are on, all permissions granted, and app is updated.
Issues! The location feature has never worked properly and the map now does not show my husband moving. I have contacted Onstar numerous times over the past 6 months with no fix. They keep telling me to do the same thing over and over (uninstall and reinstall, check permissions) which doesn't fix it. The customer service is atrocious. We keep going around in circles with no solution. To the response below, I have the updated app and the uninstall, reinstall still doesn't work. I give up!
It worked great when we first installed it back in the summer. We were able to track our son when he was on a long distance road trip. The "real" or "live" tracking was awesome. We had no issues until around September and then the app stopped showing "live" tracking. Sometimes it would show our son at home when I knew he was at school. I like to see my spouse and son moving on the map while they are traveling. I contacted OnStar technical support and spent an hour telling them the problem is not our phones, it is your app that is not working right. Please do not tell me to uninstall and reinstall, because I have done that. A week after my call to tech support where they could not figure out the issue and had to submit a ticket, we received a call stating the issue had been resolved. We saw movement for one day and then our icons stopped moving on the map. We have to keep refreshing it to see current position. PLEASE FIX. Thanks.
Have not been able to add one family member. The app keeps wanting them to create an account & does not give the option for the code. 😤 I have tried numerous times. Called customer support & nothing worked. Finally got an email with a video. But it does NOT work like the video shows. I am BEYOND frustrated!! I am so done with this app. 😤
It just doesn't work like it should. The idea behind the app is a good one. The OnStar agent made it sound really appealing for the price. BUT! But, the family tracker rarely works. It shows you a person's location 11 hours ago and nothing in real time. Clicking refresh gets you "Please try again" every single time. It does occasionally refresh, at random times, without you doing it. By the time it refreshes, the person is 600 miles from where it shows them being. Don't waste your money.
I downloaded this app because it seems as though Life360 wasn't working between my Android and my daughter's Apple phone. So far I've had no issues and it seems to be pretty accurate. I like that she also has access to the extra services while traveling. One thing I would like to see added is the ability to see location history. Life360 gives a brief overview of where you've traveled. Thanks OnStar!
When I first used this app you could see another family member moving on the screen. Now I have to close the app and then open it to see where they are now. Doesn't show any movement.
I love this app since my dad is older. However, his dot is no longer visiable to me even though he is on my list of people. He shows up fine on my husbands phone.
Tried to sign up and keep getting this error message can't set up 500. I have tried 5 times and nothing. I don't know if this is a sign but I need to use for my car remote access overall. Had before and loved the functionality for my GMC never used for onstar finding me have AAA
This app is useless and unreliable. It doesn't show where your loved ones are. I pay good money to be able to see where my kids are when they are on the road and it shows them home when I know they aren't. Update 5/30/22 and the app still isn't reliable and nothing has changed. I'm very disappointed in this and that nothing was fixed.
