Unreliable, absolutely unreliable. U use it to plan an important meeting only to find that when you arrive at the station, the timings are completely different and do not match with the reality of things Wrote the above in feb, happened again!!! The metro schedule they have on opal travel does not match reality! Trash
Twice now I have tapped on and tapped off only to find the tap off does not register and I'm charged the full amount. Surprisingly the gates open at the station. THIEVERY! Never to use again!
Don't cancel your lost card! I had over $50 credit and lost my opal card. Immediately followed app instructions to block its use. There was no notification saying that I would not be able to access my funds. It's the end of my pay cycle and I follow a strict budget which didn't allow for this. I had to buy a new card with a min. $20 spend. Contact transport Monday and am still waiting for my transfer Friday. I think the app should warn that you will block your own funds.
I'm trying to link my Opal Card onto the app but it says card already registered to another user which is incorrect the card is registered in my name but as I said before it's still a good app but needs improvement the updates were unnecessary other people who've privated feedback have been negative there's a similar issues with the My Translink app here in Queensland
Don't ever rely on the bus times in this app you'll be late, the Times are absolutely not reliable and the apps fails to deliver simple information about bus route changes.
Using trip planner - suggests trains/busses that don't run. Busses fail to turn up or just no such train at that time. You would think this app has the latest updates on public transport.
I can't even log into this App. It just says that there was an error and to retry. I know the information is correct cause I can log on in chrome. Very frustrating.
I tried to add my pensioner opal card to the app so i could top up but 22 times it said my details could not be verified..??? Same details as with other opal card..go figure..
Used to work really well. When I try to use trip planner it freezes. Works ok on ipad but I have S20. Please fix this it is really annoying and inconvenient. Have tried uninstalling etc. Everything trouble shooting tells you to di but doesn't work. Thank you
Works extremely well. I can plan a trip with ease, save my regular trips, see when my train is arriving, get delay messages in the app, it just works. I travel regularly from the South Coast to the city
Useful as a visitor to Sydney as a trip planner but won't let me log in on my phone only tablet. Doesn't accept my username or password which is correct.
Trying to top up with my VISA debit card and it keeps saying payment failed. Tried it with multiple cards too.
Unable to top up within the app. Have checked and no problems with the linked account. Have also tried reinstalling the app. Persistent error message "payment failed" past 24 hours. Please advise when you have fixed the problem. Update 8th February : Still not working Further update 15 February - finally working again.
The app used to work great but lately it doesn't work. I can see my balance but that's all. I have saved trips and when using them it won't allow me to refine times or anything else; it just freezes and then crashes. This app is totally useless now and I'm having to use my browser for my trip planning. And why is it when planning a trip, "bus" is not an option, it's "coming soon". Very frustrating.
Top up through this app is too slow! And there's always a long queue at the Opal top up machine at the station. I topped up via the app this morning - didn't go through on time, so I topped up again on the machine - still didn't go through. Missed the train to work and ended up topping up on my credit card which doesn't give you the discount on your weekly journey. I strongly suggest they fix one or the other!! 2 stars for the app, and 1 star for Opal overall.
Costly! I did a $40 top up the night before a trip to the city. The app said it would be 1 hour for the credit to show. Next day tapped on, top up didn't show. Had to do another $20 top at a shop in the city. I tapped on/off 6 times - still no $40, funds were taken from my credit card the night before :( . On the trip home, 15 hours after the $40 reload the funds appear. Won't be topping up via the app again, it's way too slow & clunky.....
Starting to hate this more and more since the update. It was pretty good before the update and I would always recommend people this app if I see them using the non-official travel planner apps. Changes since the update: 1. Planning your trip got harder. It has 2 options "know your trip" and "need some guidance". The first option gives no results when your trip involves transfers between stations. 2. Saving your favourite trip doesn't function properly. Can't even finish due to word count...
The app could use some improvements. Like the ability to tap and go with the phone. You can tap your card with your phone to check balance, so the technology is accessible so it shouldn't be that difficult to get the tap ability to swipe on and off instead of having to worry about carrying a physical card everywhere.
Unbelievable. This app worked perfectly fine a few months ago but for no good reason they decided to overhaul the entire app and render it useless. It is literally impossible to plan trips with it now because whatever time you set your trip, it will only give you results that are 30+ minutes off. The only thing more incompetent than this app is Sydney Trains itself.
So many issues recently: - Having two "types" of trip planners is annoying and doesn't seem to serve any purpose but to add an extra click. - Serious lag between top ups, tap ons etc and it displaying in app. Used to be so much faster, what happened? - The new COVID notifications won't turn off despite changing my settings. It is also still giving me notifications about a "trip in progress" since yesterday. Have had to force stop because it's so annoying.
The new UI looks good, but some of the usability has gone backwards. Clicking on the card on the main page used to show details of the card (including access to travel activity). But this doesn't work anymore. Using the navigation at the bottom requires additional steps, as I have to then navigate again to the card I want to see.
Cannot top up within the app. Same issue as other user who posted a review. I used different cards and still the same "payment failed. Contact your financial institution" I even got a new Opal card and have the same issue. Theres nothing wrong with my debit/credit cards. It allowed a manual top up at the machine using one of those cards but that's not exactly convenient and I nearly missed my train. My app is the latest version. Opal Team - You NEED to FIX this.
Is this app perfect? No. But then again, is the weather ever perfect? I've been to every state in Australia besides WA (which no one outside of WA can get into anyway) and Opal and the Opal Travel app wipes the floor with all of them - VIC, SA and especially QLD and TAS. Yes the odd bus route doesn't make sense and the odd timetable isn't updated in a timely way. But if that's your gripe then you cheapskates need to buy TripView. We have it pretty good in NSW and should appreciate it a little.
Been using the opal app for ages and it's always been terrible. On trip planner it takes you all around town when there are easier ways to go. The notifications to get off at a stop used to work, then was changed so you have to manually select it every single time you use the app, it's still hit and miss, so you have to watch the app to know when to get off. The trip cancels itself mid trip sometimes and your left stranded not knowing where to go or the trip wont end and it drains you battery.
Hi guys, I use this app everyday and it's pretty accurate actually, but I updated not long ago and now the list of trains or busses on a new trip, has "departing in 40m" and the arrival time. It's actually very annoying to have to click on every separate service to see what time it actually departs. Please put the actual time of departure and arrival there, I don't want to know 40 minutes away I want to know the actual time it's scheduled!! Please change this or at least show both! Thank you!!
Not a fan! The option to add contactless card numbers to your profile is completely pointless. If you use different cards in that time, they don't recognise each other and therefore you don't get the benefit of receiving half price travel after 8 trips. A useless feature. Also anything added to your account via this app is not recognised immediately on your Opal Card. Meanwhile if you use the same card you used to pay in a machine as the App, it is loaded immediately. Another frustrating thing!!
I had to wait for a bus (no. 458) that didn't run on time as per the schedule shown by this app and was over 45 minutes late on the 6th of May 2019 at Strathfield train station and on top of that I tried to submit a complaint via the app twice and the app hung up "Processing..." both times after I filled in the form. Pitiable service, useless app. Thanks very much
Works very well as a trip planner, but I wish there was a way to expand sections of a journey to show arrival times at major stations or junctions on the route. Im not sure why people have trouble topping up. We have an auto topup of $20 apply when credit gets to $10 and have never had any problem or concern!😁
This app is very helpful for planning my trips, especially when buses are involved One feature I think would be nice is being able to mark off each leg of your trip as you complete them. I've had a few times where notifications have gotten confused because the second bus has covered some of the same ground as the first
