I love the idea, but lot of products are missing (user base can upload), but my problem is ) beside I can't find products i buy) is that the nutrition did not match with the product in my country. The rating was low because of high salt, but the same product in my country (with same language label) contained 20% less salt. I am not sure how to input this info the application, because it is not known for me wether the product generally has been improved, or different country versions differs...
Great idea ruined by the implementation. Every time I want to add the product it either asks for some weird details, or, like last time, simply hangs upon adding the photo of the product. Really bad experience.
I'm still trying this app out, but while most reviews are people using it for additives and fats and stuff like that, I'm using it for food allergies. The problem I'm having is that while it has celery, it doesn't have some like poultry. Its very generic which isn't the most helpful.
Interesting concept, and lots of useful information. The user interface is a little confusing initially, and when you scan a product, you have to find that product in your scan history to get more details about it (or I am missing something in the confusing and clunky interface). But the clear grading of products makes it easy to complete a grocery shopping trip without having to read a bunch of labels if you are buying products you have not bought before.
Contains a lot of data. UI could have a better design in places with custom components, but that's not as important as the goal of open data this app achieves.
Spent hours editing a product here. It crashes and all my progress is lost. Bug
Old photos i scanned stay in cache and bug out when i upload new ones
Hey, from france and your app is better than YUKA, first it is totally free and 3 different score notation! There also the Product Search Bar function.
A bit rough design, but I like thr concept
I had a number of problems trying to use this app alongside Waistline. First the app crashed when trying to make an account (solution was to change default browser, was using Privacy Browser). I struggled against the UI as body weight is in Kg only, and sodium is listed in grams by default instead of mg, causing it to freak out. After coming back for a third attempt my contributions had been lost and settings reset.
great but small bug: when editing nutrition, it confuses 100g / serving size entries sometimes, as if it inputs cached entry instead of currently entered info. Having also both the 100g and per serving columns, and refreshing instantly the other column when entering data in one column , would ensure it is visible and easy to check if the entered values are taken correctly into account.
I did not have a good experience with this app it will not scan a single barcode and asks me to entre everything as a new product even unshelled peanuts. To add a product it a long nightmare. I think this app could be great if it worked.
This is only a database of foods that gives a nutrition score. I tried it because the images looked promising. The ONLY good thing is that it will extract the words from a picture taken of the food's ingredients list. I expected that for the Nutrition Facts panel, but it doesn't do it there. If this app tracked users' consumption, the app could be updated to notify users of recalls on products the user entered as "consumed" because of the detailed information asked for on each product.
Even some products are not found, this app is great 👍👍👍 One suggestion: support to compare products from History
Idea is good and it is great that it is open Source. I really wish to give 5 Stars for all great work but search is really bad. This requires a better search enginee. I am searching something results are mostly in french. I understand that creator is french but this is too much. When i search for eggs, it should return english results. Not french.
Like barely anything even comes up, almost everything I scan has no information so what's the point?
Just awesome, exactly what I have waited for. Excellent work, guys.
Amazing app. Contains lot of products. One thing missing : a tool for analysing my daily diet based on my data of searched products, with graphics showing how often I eat/drink food with A, B, C, D, E nutriscore.
The one food scanner to rule them all! Got to love open source...
I haven't had any of the problems people have described. Some items aren't there but as it's open source I could just add it myself. Is extremely useful for giving me extra information about my food!
Thus is a wonderful database. My only concern is it labels all fats as bad which gives some extremely healthy oils like olive oil a bad score. I think that's very misleading, especially considering the vast misinformation on the subject.
The three negative reviews I've seen are either due to a bug that I haven't experienced, so it may have been fixed, or due to a misunderstanding of the app. One person is upset because they think the developers are using users to build their business for them. I found this funny because the same person probably uses MyFitnessPal instead of OpenFoodFacts due to this complaint. In reality, MyFitnessPal is exploiting its users for profit by data harvesting and using them to add new products to their database. OFF is non profit and open source, offering an alternative to MFP that isn't taking advantage of its users. Another person is upset because nothing they are scanning is in OFF's database. This is because OFF is less mature and polished compared to MFP, which is oftentimes the case when comparing open source and proprietary alternatives. OFF describes itself as the Wikipedia of food, and Wikipedia requires contributing people to accumulate knowledge. This person had a product that probably had a nutrition label on it. He could have used 5 minutes to contribute to OFF, but instead decided to write a review. If you take OFF for what it is, you won't have any complaints. And if you do have some complaints, the beauty of open source software is that you can contribute to the project and help fix any shortcomings you come across.
Outrageous. The app started freezing out of nowhere and then it made my processor go crazy and making a weird noise. I delete it instantly. Would not recommend it to anyone.
Great, now I can scan and see what's ultra processed! Still there's no Nova scale for marigold nutritional yeast flakes :( I guess it's only minimally processed? Because it's yeast that's dried with no additives, flavourings, colourings, added salt etc? I hope so any great source of B12 for vegans :)
Open database of food products. Contributing to it is very easy and helps obtain useful data for many possible applications. Unlike commercial databases, this one is accessible to all, free of charge.
Great initiative. As this apps has really impacted some customer behavior and the food industry especially in Europe, is there a way to also to evaluated how eco friendly is the packaging ( plastic really able to be recycle or not) maybe this would help to change mind of packaging industry
I like the Yuka app better because of the overall grade and the quick and easy explanations on additives, but Open Food Facts is a more open system where everyone can edit & improve product information, irrespective of the country /language (for example Yuka does not cover Dutch products).
Great app but some product lists trans fats in them and are still considered decent , and trans fats are known to be the worst macronutrient out there. So I suggest you consider the presence of trans fats in your ratings please.
Good idea but there are so many products that are missing or unknown, that this application becomes useless. And it's not even new products it's the most popular ones like head and shoulders for example, it says unknown rating. Everything I scan says unknown. What's the point of having an app that shows you nutrition value if it doesn't know even the most popular products atleast.
