OpenSeizureDetector

Open Seizure Detector is an experimental epileptic (tonic-clonic) seizure detector / alert system that utilises a Pebble smart-watch to detect shaking, and raises an alarm for a carer. If the wearer of the watch shakes for 15-20 seconds, the device will produce a warning. If the shaking continues for another 10 seconds it raises an alarm.
The phone app communicates with the pebble smart-watch and provides a web interface that other devices can connect to to receive notifications of seizure events. It can also send SMS (Text) Messages to notify carers that a seizure has been detected and the location of the person affected. The system includes self-checking to make sure it is functioning correctly, and will beep to warn the user of faults to help provide reassurance that it is working.

You need a Pebble Smart Watch or a Pebble Time Smart Watch that is connected to your Android device for OpenSeizureDetector to work.

It does not use any external web services to detect seizures or raise alarms, so is not dependent on an internet connection to work, and no subscriptions to commercial services are needed.

I recommend subscribing to email updates to the OpenSeizureDetector web site or Facebook Page if you use the app so I can contact users if I find an issue you should know about.

Note that this app is experimental so may not be reliable at the moment, but comments would be appreciated. That said, I have had some positive feedback from users saying that it has detected tonic-clonic seizures reliably, but it has not been subjected to 'proper' qualification testing.

For more details of how this works see the OpenSeizureDetector web site.

Works great and graham is very responsive and caring and wants each customer to be safe and will do anything to get it up and running, just provide photos and detailed information about devices about the issues and he will get you up and running. He learned some tricks of issues through my installation issue so he is prepared for what's next, just stay calm and patient.

So far not good....I was so excited for this spent alot of money and time and years getting this...and i have tested it i have to practically break my arm off to get an alarm to go off....in the video you make it look like a slight shaking will set it off but nope I rly have to smash it against the ground to have it say warning....this is a bit dramatic....what do i do??? Please help or advice !!!

This is extremely helpful. I set my HR to 75 to trigger the alarm, and works perfectly. I only use it at night as my seizures are nocturnal. My HR only passes 75 when I have seizures so alerts my wife. The sooner I can get anti cluster seizure meds on board, the better obviously (Benzo, Clobazam etc). Thank you so much for creating this App for people who suffer from this condition, and wish you all the best for your son. Best wishes to you. Matt

Seems like itt would eb good but I can't get my smart watch to link. I'm guessing it's because its just a cheap watch from amazon and not a brand watch :(

Your openseizuredetector is amazing for people with seizure history. I am doing research on tonic clonic seizure detectors. Garmin has gyroscope, accelerometer sensors while Embrace2 also has sensors for electrodermal and temperature. openseizuredetector app doesn't run on Embrace2 which has high false alarm and unreliable Bluetooth connection What's your suggestion about tonic clonic seizure detectors Embrace2 with fee or Garmin/Pebble (which model runs better) with this app or other ? Thanks

Amazing app. We use it with Garmin forerunner 735 for my 2 year old son for sleeping who has a severe form of epilepsy. It has quite literally saved my sleep. The heart rate limits are fantastic. It gives great piece of mind as I know the app will alert us if Cillian needs us during the night.

It just keeps spinning and says waiting for seizure alert data and it keeps beeping. The watch it connected. So frustrating.

Will this app work with a garmin 530? It is a bike gps/computer and not a watch. Thank you creator for making a useful app for epileptics and not charging for either the app or a subscription. Unlike the other app on play that charges a monthly/yearly subscription.

This is this app is very good I think it will help me through the future and not yet has it been needed but we have tested it in order to make it perfectly notice when i have a seizure and its good.

This app is a life changer!! Being able to get a text (with GPS position) when the person you're caring for has a tonic-clonic event, and being able to change the sensitivity settings - all without a subscription or fees! - is beyond wonderful. This app is brilliant and works great!! It has even better features than the more expensive seizure watches on the market AND the watch it utilizes looks cool and isn't a "seizure watch" that has one use only.

It's a great app in theory. I've tried for an hour but I can't get the fall protection alarm to shut up.

Thank you very much for devoting your time to this and making it available to everyone. You are helping a lot of people and making this world a bit better. Thank you, thank you and thank you.

update- pebble 2 watch works well with the app thank you so much plus i was wondering if you can update the app and put it so it will turn on the heart rate moditor ? Question only! Will it work for pebble 2? Or older pebble watch or... any pebble watches?

Brilliant app for helping us sleep at night. Our son loves to wear his "sleeping watch" while this app allows an old nearby phone to broadcast his status to our tablet across the house. App creator is very responsive to questions and input.
