Orphic : Read & learn some obscure words

Nice app! It is one of the best apps I've ever seen because orphic let's me learn new and unfamiliar words. As a result, I am able to improve my vocabulary. However, one shortcoming I've found is the pronunciation part. If only there is an option where I can choose the pronunciation type, then that would be even more helpful. For instance, American English, British English, Australian English, etc. Because there are some instances where I can't comprehend and keep up with the pronunciation.

Overall it's a very nice app. Since I generally used the widget mostly I encountered few bugs there. 1. after every restart the widget shows loading only and doesn't work. 2.The hour refresh rate doesn't work and it randomly reloads every now and then. 3. The pronunciation option not available in widget. 4. When I click on a word in widget to see the examples or pronunciation, the word changes after closing the app which I don't want. Hope to see the bugs squashed inthe next update. Thanks.

As others have mentioned, some of the words aren't particularly obscure but the app works well for me and the design is pleasant. The UI isn't the greatest, but it's intuitive. Where this app loses a star for me is the error in its notification when copying a definition. "Word and all it's [sic] definition copied to clipboard." It's perhaps a small detail but nevertheless important in a language learning app.

This is the very best app of its kind. I haven't noticed any ads and the design is very easy to use and navigate. Best of all, It actually has some new words I've never seen before, even with audio for difficult pronunciations. Don't bother trying any other one because I've downloaded tons (ive tried them all) of similar apps and they all were complete disappointments.

It's amazing app to improve your vocabulary skills plus miscellaneous words even better. But there should be something like quiz to test our learning within the set of we learn . For example we put a tick mark on that button to include it in quiz. Plus there should be way we can filter out our favourite words, in this version we can select them but we cannot filter them. 😊😊

I love this app I like the widget on my home screen that I'm able to see new obscure words. My one issue is, for a long time on the widget settings, you were able to have a pronunciation button so you could hear the word and for some reason the toggle is still there on the settings for the widget but it won't allow you to turn it on. I'm just confused on why that is so. I would totally give 4 possibly even 5 stars if I could get that button back but other than that, great app.

Been using this app for some time, and I think it is excellent. The only thing I dislike is the inconsistency of the pronounciation button. By inconsistency I mean it just switch between British and American pronunciation randomly, and I have to check the difference between the distinct ways to pronounce it (British / American?) on Google every time. Hope you can improve it to let us know the whether it is British or American pronounciation. Would be helpful for non-native English speakers 😁

I love this app. Especially the widget. You can set how often you want a new weird, hear the pronunciation, see it used in several sentences and write your own notes. You can even change the colour of the theme, which I really like. There are loads of different words so there always a few I haven't heard before. Really good!

Amazing app! 2 tweaks would make it perfect... first the heart in the widget shows every word as favourited, this is a new glitch as the widget previously worked perfectly. Second... it would be great to be able to copy and paste 1. the word + 2. the definition + 3. one example sentence (e.g. the top one) at one time. Most people i share with prefer all 3 for context. This app is a great way to encourage a love fot all in the beauty of words, thank you!

really pleasant design and quite a few genuinely obscure words - i balked when i saw a misused apostrophe in 'its' though! - your demographic is going to notice that! - overall the prob is mine - when i see a new word I tend not to trust it without the derivation, because occasionally novelty dictionaries fancify definitions to make them more appealing - definitions for popular 'untranslatable terms' have turned out to be unfamiliar to the native speaker, for example.

I bought this app immediately. A Good app for learning new words, but then this app should act as a dictionary too. Moreover, the color should be added like red to the heart ❤️ . There should be themes like orange, red, blue, yellow for pepping up the look. Also the quiz words should get saved. The words should be like the one needed in GRE, GMAT, SAT, TOEFL, IELTS and should be categorized accordingly, making the app even better 😀

A lot of the words aren't very obscure (Greek letters? Seriously?), but I could get past that until today it started crashing every time I open it, and it won't even let me uninstall it now. Edit: the app is not interfering directly with the uninstall process, every time I try I get a system notification saying that the uninstall encountered an error, then the app disappears until the next time I restart my phone. The problem doesn't happen for other apps.

Widget doesnt even work anymore. Seems when changing the toolbar for it it completely breaks the widget. Never ever had any issues with this app before the past few months. Thinking of uninstalling it and calling my payment a loss which is too bad bc i used to really like learning new words from this app.

It's a nice app. But the words are all the same daily and often the pronunciation does not load and is not very well annunciated because it is a computer saying the word not a person. So it's not entirely correctly pronouncing the words. Especially foreign words which the English language is made of and had butchered. Damn westerners!

I love this developer! This app is amazing and to hear the word's pronunciation is wonderful. This developer is flawless and I can not wait for more apps from him. He really thinks of everything! I'd love to see a planner/to do list/budgeting/grocery list all in one type of productivity app from him or even a photo editing app because I think he would make one that had everything you would want or be looking for in either of those apps. please make more apps soon ♡

I rarely open the application and instead opt to use the widget. I've noticed frequent repeats in this way on the random word generator, including favourites that I've obviously seen already, even recently. TLDR is your randomiser is awful but it's an important part of what makes the application interesting.

I actually love this app. I sometimes get lost in Orphic discovering new words. I enjoy expanding my vocabulary & finding new words for rhymes, songs, poetry, etc. The notifications are pleasant, never annoying. That's a +plus, considering other apps can bombard you w/ notifications & propaganda ...but NOT Orphic. They're cool & I recco this app.✌🏻🙂

Love love love this app, great job! Only 3 small wish list items to give it 5 stars.... 1. The widget shows every word of the days as a shaded heart (to indicate already favourited, when it is not) 2. Please please enable ability to make custom lists of words by mood, type, or whatever... your own categories. 3. (Not as important to me, but would be awesome) Add the ability to quickly export a word, it's definition & one example sentence as an Instagram or photo-post - watermark for promo!

I've only been in the app for about 5 minutes. Is there any way to choose one voice for all pronunciations? There's a different voice each time for the same word. Some of the have accents while others are so soft you can't hear the whole word. When you finally get to one that's just right, it's gone again. The variety is cool but when I find one I like, I would like to use it ongoing.

It's one of the best, but my main problem is I can't find newly favorite words. And the favourite words, I suggest they should be displayed with "recently added" as an option too. And sometimes too some words appear on the widget which I have not added to my favorites but they are already marked, which I didn't add them to my favorite words. You are doing great work and helping me improve my English, thanks much.

Very good. A really nice new word a day app. It only gives me words I already know about half the time as opposed to other new word a day apps that I have tried in the past. I have had it for a year now and it is not intrusive or weird.

My father and I absolutely adore this app! The words are well picked out and the options to save and love the words are quirky additions. Although it could certainly be improved with a brief etymology, it is certainly laudable in its current form.

One of the few apps I feel it's worth it to actually write a review of. It's simply a well constructed app that brings you knowledge in a free and effortless way, pretty much the greatest gift anyone can ask for. Love it, it's the type of that I feel it's worth sharing woth other people, I check it every single day! I've learned a few interesting things from it, couldn't be happier!

Play store sez I have latest. Still a problem, I get the latest word, not the one that was latest when the notification was issued. And tapping the left-arrow takes me to list of words but the one in notifctn not one of them... Can't the notifctn be configd to send back to the app the word the notifcn told me it had for me? Then app could look it up.. ?

Pretty cool word a day program for your phone. One new word each day shows up in your notifications. Itll usually be strange and eaoteric sounding but it will inevitably be a word that you can actually use in writing and/or conversation. It really helps to expand your vocabulary.

Beautifully laid out all with an elegant interface that offers you a new word each day in your notifications along with synonyms. You can also scroll through it and use it like a dictionary of the arcane, obscure, and erudite. Haven't been able to get the read aloud button to woke and I'm still giving it five stars I like it so much.

this is one of the best learning apps I've ever used till now. I've recommended many of my friends to use this & they're already doing so. The very relevant part of this app is its way of exposure of new words, etymologies & all, just loving it. Requesting the developer to promote some more updates on new words, collecting them and harvesting much more words at length. Wonderful one❤️
