Good app for walking. Easy to use and doesn't drain the battery too much when out. Used to be better in that you could buy the OS map for individual counties/national parks but now you have to subscribe to get access to those. I've still got the ones I bought a few years ago but can't add any more without subscription. And improvement would be the shared routes from the community - you can't see them on the map before downloading so adding that functionality would help.
[Edit]: Acter completely uninstalling and reinstalling the app, I am now able to view my downloaded maps using the My Maps view. Now that this is working, the new app is a marked improvement over the old one, particularly when using in areas with no signal. However, the GPS position pointer is often some way off my actual position, sometimes by about half a mile or so, so not reliable for orientation. This is negotiable though if you have some experience in map reading.
Like others, have paid for individual maps, but am now unable to download them to my device. The new UI looks slick, but does not hide the serious issues currently blighting the app. Hopefully a fix soon, but it looks as if the developer want to push away established users of the app to build a subscription-based model. If a fix is not in evidence soon, I will be asking for the app to be removed from the Play store and my money returned.
I've totally lost confidence in this product. The update to version 5 wiped out my purchased maps which were only restored after several emails to technical support. However, although I have downloaded them and the "mini-scale", My Maps still don't work, as it says I still need to download the mini-scale map! In its current form the app does not work even after two further updates and is driving me towards a decision to drop it and subscribe to the actual Ordnance Survey product.
The recent update threw up a bit of an issue...the old quote of 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' springs to mind. I like so many others was unable to view all my purchased maps at first, even after downloading them! The solution I found was to remove the app then reinstall it again followed by downloading my previously purchased maps again to finally see them...still trying to find my way around the app but at least now I can see my maps...
A once good app has been ruined! Like others here, my purchased OS maps do not appear on the overlay as, when I select 'My Maps', I am just told to download My Maps. No link, guidance or anything! I have updated the app but it still doesn't work. A textbook example of converting a functional and useful piece of software into a broken mess.
New update looks nice but the previous version is far better as that works! Had to download my offline maps again. However when I do, they vanish when I close the app. So not useable. Also previous made routes are in a random order and I don't want to see old routes at the top of the list. Will be looking for a new mapping app.
I have been using this app on pc, Apple and now android for 9 years and have bought 16 of the maps as well has having used the walking routes and have created my own. The app is easy to use, but if you are in a remote (no mobile access) area downloaded maps are a must or a normal map. Being available on multiple systems can create issues with account matching but on both times I have contacted support it has been resolved quickly and without issue. My favourite solution.
Terrible. This app no longer works at all on my mobile phone. I take my phone on walks and mountain bike rides and just want to read a standard OS map while out. It simply crashes and won't even open at all. It works on my tablet but only in portrait mode. It used to work a year or so ago, although was temperamental so I switched to a different app (viewranger) when necessary. I have spent around £100 on various 'lifetime' OS Maps and they are not interested in refunding me. Utterly disgraceful.
maps are good, but planning a new route is excruciating. slow to plot each waypoint, and, once complete, you can extend the route, but not add a diversion, or a loop. even a minor revision to a path is really fiddly. when plotting it keeps freezing, so you have to save as you go, otherwise you start again from the beginning, so not really useful for longer hikes or bike rides.
3 updates now and my issue with the gps icon has still not been fixed. This is ridiculous. I'm going to have to admit defeat and swap to another app. I'm really disappointed, I had bought a number of maps for offline use and now what used to work perfectly is complety broken so that's money down the drain. To top it off outdoors has stopped responding to my emails.
Terrible - it worked fine before the upgrade now it is useless. I deleted the app and reinstalled it as suggested below with no success and also rebooted my phone, again no improvement. I have 1:25 maps which I have bought previously and cannot now access them. All I seem to be able to access is a very crude basic map and the in-app link to the email address for the support does not work!
As per below I am unable to use properly my purchased downloaded maps as they get removed every time the app closes. This was never an issue with the previous. The point of purchasinv individual maps is to be able to keep them on your device offline without having to rely on signal or wifi. Please can this be fixed.
Very limited app and not worth the fee. Works fine when you have strong signal but it will not work unless you do. I downloaded the Highlands map and when I was off grid with no signal it was just a blank white map, very annoying and not worth the £19.99 fee. I guess it's okay as a back up but if you're somewhere with poor signal - like national parks ie Lakes, Highlands, Peak District etc I'd avoid.
Perfectly good app ruined by an update. Removed shortcut from Home page, changed the name and lost all the maps I had paid for! Hopeless. UPDATE: after various attempts, finally realised that you need to select My Maps from the main map to display them. How daft! The old app simply showed your maps once purchased.
This application WAS great. I now find it unusable with the latest update. Very frustrating. It didn't show where you were when browsing the map (the only reason I used it). Now you can't browse the map without it jumping back to where you are. Aaaaahhhhhh
I have had this app for 10 months and until last weekend loved it!! We travelled an hour to hike but couldn't as the app wouldn't work. Since then I have repeatedly emailed for help but have received no help at all..It is still not working and no one communicates with me. I would like this rectified or a refund!!
TERRIBLE- I've happily used this mapping software for a number of years. Yesterday I arranged a lengthy walk with a friend to find the OS map app had updated and was inaccessible. I've sent numerous emails attempting to reset my password to no avail. Still unable to access the mapping software I have purchased. Over 24hours since contacting outdoors GPS and still no reset password. Infuriating response from outdoorsgps. If I can't access the maps I've purchased REFUND THE MONEY I'VE SPENT.
Latest update is a disaster. The app no longer works! Tried contacting the software providers but no response yet. The user guide has been deleted and the app does not record routes any more. This used to be a very good app but they keep tinkering with it and making it worse.
This was a great app until the last update then it is absolutely useless. Freezes constantly, kicks you out, won't find any routes even we'll known ones, lost all my previously saved routes and I pay for the full pro version. I'll be cancelling the subscription if it cannot be fixed.
Hopeless. Something is wrong: it won't let you log in! I am now deleting it for the sixth time! I give it a go every few months to see if it has been fixed. Works well on iPhone.
