I can't believe I've been using Outliner since 2012 without giving a review. This app is the best Outliner in the play store, I have used hierarchal outliners since I began using computers in the 90's. I use Outliner, for lists, to-do's, notes, minor projects. It syncs with Google Tasks and Calendar. The absolute best feature is that I can assign a list of my choice as a target for Android share. Then you can Highlight text, or URL's and save them to the target list. Worth every cent.
This is the 2nd or 3rd time I downloaded and tried Outliner, but until now I couldn't get past those huge 3D buttons. This time I purchased the Pro version (only $5), then wrote the developer to ask for smaller buttons. People - if there is something in this app that is holding you back, I urge you to contact Freddy (yup, we're on a 1st name basis now). You will not be disappointed.
Just started using. Initial impression of this app "Outliner" is VERY GOOD. Suggestions... Allow the change of background color (and text). Easier on the eyes and saves battery. Requires too many clicks to get to "expand all" and "collapse all". Expanding and collapsing subtrees should be a free feature. Allow constant availability and multiple levels of undo/redo for all actions.
While I would rather use the windows app Treepad, I am delighted that I am finally able to access my .hjt files on my chromebook. The GUI isn't quite what I hope for but it works admirably and I am sure that it will grow on me as I get used to it.
I use this for to-do lists, shopping lists, projects, pretty much everything. You can import from just about any other software, and the interface is fantastic. Nested trees, the best drag/drop implementation I've come across on Android period. If you used Treepad you'll feel right at home. One minor thing I wish it had was the capability to backup/restore to Google Drive. If you get the Pro version, you can backup/restore to the internal storage, which is good, and I use it a lot.
This is an excellant app. I use it for everything. It is so much more than just a todo list. The only thing I dislike about it is the inability to save and open each individual outline without the awkward hassle of importing and exporting. Some of my outline are extensive. I would gladly pay more for that option. Expand your vision and make this more than a checklist. Incorporate the save and open feature and you will have a superb app. Great work so far.
I really love this Outliner, I use it all the time, it is so useful to me, especially as I can still use my Bonsai PC app to update my outlines, and synch to all my devices. There is only one other feature that, for me, would be really useful, which is the ability to hide completed items. I know it's possible to delete them, but I would prefer not to do that as I often duplicate an old outline as a starting point for a new one. UPDATE: Thanks for the quick response - perfect solution, thanks!
It's very straight forward and easy to use. The due date function is convenient. However, I wish you could add the time for when something is due. I like the checkmark feature for when you are done and the addition of notes for the activity. I would have like a reminder for each activity that had a due date but for a basic checklist it's pretty good.
very good app, but it's not as minimalist as I like... Some features are just making it look more cluttered and all around the place. E.g. I don't need three OK buttons under every activity. Or when I choose to create an activity, the back button shows an error so I should hit cancel to make it work. Or sometimes shows the same warning message multiple times repeatedly. I think if this app is re-built with an easier interface I will love it much more. Also many features (even search!) is a PRO.
Outliner is really two apps in one: an outlining tool (which is how I use it) and a task manager. It is a great tool for planning (e.g., creating work breakdown structures), writing (e g., outlining articles and presentations), etc. I wish there was a smoother way to transition from an outline to the finished plan or document but there is value in keeping it simple.
Been using the tool on and off for a while, and it's been an easy pleasant experience. I just imported my Memory Journeys, from a Treepad hjt file. Perfect ; no glitches. One feature that isn't necessary, but would be nice, is a random mode. So e.g. RapidInfo KnowledgeBase has a semi-random quiz mode. And Personal Brain has a feature that selects nodes at random. Admittedly, I'm not sure how it would look, in a directional Tree Structure, other than random navigation of nodes. Thanks.
I was never able to create useful outlines until outline programs/apps became available. Finally, I was able to restructure hierarchies without tearing up each draft. They are very useful in capturing unstructured ideas, and then forming them into logical structures. My favorite was, and continues to be, ECCO PRO, a discontinued Windows program. Unfortunately, no one has reverse engineered ECCO PRO to run on Android devices, such as my cell phone. This "Outliner" is the best Android substitute I could find. I often reccomend it to others.
thank you for this nice app. the only downside in my opinion is wrapping the outline lines and there is no option to disable this behavior. it is very annoying since I usually add long lines in the outline. it also get messy at deeper levels where only one word is displayed at a line. So, I think that wrapping text to screen is a bad idea. thanks
I've spent quite a bit of quarantine looking into To Do list apps. I wanted something simple, yet user friendly. I wanted to be able to collapse my subtasks (this is the only app I found that does this) so I can scroll quickly & it not look messy. You can colour code it, tick things off, use a search function. UPDATE : You can now duplicate the app! ( The developer is also SUPER FRIENDLY & helpful. I have the pro version which I'd really recommend & is good value
WARNING: this app does not sync with itself. In other words, even if you have both the free and pro key versions installed on two devices, the app still will not automatically share files between the devices. Your apparently have to use third party services to share files, jumping through several minutes worth of clicking in the process. Also, when I tried to import a shared outline file from Google docs, the app would only recognize locally shared files, not anything shared in Google Drive.
Newest version 3.3.2 from October 10, 2020, archived all my outlines to my device. They are still there, but the app doesn't recognize them. I don't have the PRO version, so hope this was not done to force me to by it. I will uninstall Outliner, since I don't want my data sequestered again in the future.
Excellent now that you can import a text file from cloud storage and not just a local file. Would be perfect if you could export the outline in text direct to cloud for later manipulation on Word processor. Right now can only export text to local storage.
After a lot of time spent to find perfect app for checklists, to-do, etc. I will stay with this app, and will buy pro version. I love it! Simplicity, with all needed functions. WOW!!! I hope this app will not be ruined, as was ruined my last Checklist app from perfect, to below average...
out of all the organization apps, this is by far the MOST Effective!!!! i am an artist with ADHD and all the other apps with these bells and wistles just get everything more complicated. This is the only app i found that makes sense and has a purposeful flow . not to mention what ive been dting to find; color coordinator. not onky that, but UNLIMITED amount of colors! For an unlimited amount of lists and sublists!!! FINIALLY!!!!! Finially found THE BEST ORGANIZATION APP HAMDS DOWN!!!
Thank you so very much developer for such an amazing app. It's very helpful and is one of the best in play store. I just have two requests: 1:Can you please have an option to choose the default 'insert time and date' format? Like 12 hours format for time and dd/mm/yyyy format for date? 2: It'd be great if this app have some themes, or atleast a 'dark mode'. I am hoping for these features in an upcoming update. I shall be grateful. Edit: Ok, thank you so much for informing and help. I'm grateful
UPDATE: This app is awesome. Developer was very quick to respond to my email re: question below. The answer is that currently, to auto-sort alphabetically, simply create a header task, then make your list of items in a subtree/subtasks. From there you will be able to auto-alphabetize the list : ) If you want to sync tasks with Gtasks, don't create more than 1 subtree though, because Google is phasing out support of more than 1 subtree deep. Sounds like developer is working on ability to auto-alphabetize main task list in future updates. I've upgraded my rating from 4 to 5 stars : ) Original remark: How to sort Main Tree? I really like the functionality of this app! However, can not figure out how to automatically sort the main tree of just one specific list (I've only seen how to sort a sublist). Anyone have some thoughts on this?
Hi thanks for answering my reply! You said the Pro version had dark themes. But is that a little recoloring of toolbars, or is the entire pages black with white writing? I'd hate to buy Pro and find the pages not dark. Thanks! Edit: Thank you for the updated info! Glad to hear!
I Have been using outliner for a few years now. It is by far irreplaceable and I have test driven a few outliners. The power and simplicity are unbeatable. A must tool.
Great product. Essential to managing my life. Have used Pro version for several years. And Freddy is very responsive to issues.
Absolutely spectacular app. Easy to use. So many helpful features and just does everything you could ever want when needing to make, edit, and export outlines. I just had a problem where another app restricted Outliner's Internet access causing problems. The developer responded immediately with very knowledgeable and helpful ideas to help me find and solve the problem. This is an extremely high quality app that I've been using extensively for a year. It is so well worth the purchase!! 🙏
