I've been using the OwlCam since 2018. In the beginning it worked great. I started having issues with it in January of 2022. It doesn't send alerts anymore, can't see history and on occasion can't see live view because camera is offline. I have uninstalled and installed the app multiple times. Still having the problem. Customer support has been trying to fix it for almost 6 months now; it's time to move on to Nexar One Dash Cam.
I am very disappointed in this product. The app is no good and I do not know where saved clips are being stored. I honestly had high hopes for this product but it has been a complete failure. Footage is very blurry and you can barely see the vehicle in front of you or the road on playback. The playback will completely stop connection to the app. This is probably the worst I have experienced. The Reception is choppy and the night vision is on at all times. This product has so much potential
Such a great camera but the service really sucks. I get alerts, but can't see the videos. List of clips, can't watch any of them. App always says owlcam offline, can't watch live video. Bitter disappointment. Update 8-26-21: Update finally gave me back the function of my camera. Thank you. Uodate 9-3-21: And now we're back to camera being offline. Still getting notifications but unable to view videos. Update 4-22-2022: Latest update borked app again. Just crashes when trying to open.
The camera is nice. The app...... is not. I'm an Uber driver who really needed to provide video footage of an incident I had while on the job. The LTE service that I pay $20 a month for does not work the majority of the time, and I am unable to download clips and save them in ANY FORM to share with Uber Support. Don't waste your money.
Tons of crashes with latest release the app wont even open, drains my battery and barely get about 15 hours of on guard, alerts aren't downloaded, playback horrible. I gave it 2 stars only cuz app has potential that isn't being developed. It's a pitiful shame....especially for the monies paid for the device and sub.
Another bad update. Most recent update makes mobile device unable to receive notifications or connect to device remotely. I regret getting this product as the developers are constantly making mistakes that make their product useless when you need it most. Junk.
ππ»95% offline and unaccessible. ππ»It turns completely off while driving or in "guard mode." ππ»It doesn't get triggered when anything happens to the car. ππ»just an extremely expensive paperweight.
April 22th 2022 Update: Since monday the app has been crashing it wouldn't open. When I called I couldn't get to talk to anyone. Guys this is the most worst π« service offered by new company. Stay away its a scam owl was supposed to replace my cam and now they telling me they cant exchange it i have buy a new camera. How do you canceled old customers data plan and force them to subscribe for a $20 a monthly plan.
App just crashes on launch now. Tried force stopping and clearing cache. Didn't help. Uninstalled and reinstalled and still no luck.
Last update didn't fix any bugs. Just made the app useless & crashes upon opening.
I can not see videos; it constantly says it's uploading from vehicle... I get alerts but still can not view videos; if by chance I get to view a video, it will just shut the app down. Complete waste of money
Pay $214 annually for this SERVICE and it doesn't work AT ALL!!!!! OFFLINE 100% AND SUPPORT IS ABSOLUTELY NO HELP. WILL BE LOOKING INTO A BETTER SERVICE AND WHEN I FIND THAT, I WILL BE REPORTING THIS AS FRAUD AND GET MY MONEY BACK. THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE AS A SERVICE PROVIDER. And once again!!!!!!!! April 25th, 2022!!!!!!!
Subscription fee is to expensive, Way to many connection issues and doesn't recognize all bumps to the vehicle.
i constantly have to go out to my vehicle to restart the cam because its always OFFLINE. good quality video when it actually works thou
The app is no longer working, it force closes and will not load. Can Owlcam support please help out with this?
This had the potential to be a really exciting and useful app. There's an annual charge for the service yes, but with the security it would have been worth it. Unfortunately whenever you want to use any of the security features like checking your camera, recording video, or looking at your history you have to use pre-purchased credits. So instead of having a straightforward tool with service that you fairly pay, for you pay extra money to use the advertised features.
Frustrating. The app used almost 20 gig of background data in just a few days. Had to disable that feature. The 4G is mediocre at best. The history feature doesn't always work. More often than not the history screen comes on for a few seconds then goes blank and resets to the home screen. Audio is almost never recorded. This cam has so much potential but is very poorly implemented. Pity.
This dashcam is great when it works, but there's been multiple times that I have to uninstall and reinstall the app because live view wouldn't work. It always says offline even when I just turned on the car. On some occasions after reinstalling the app again, live view still doesn't work. I can't keep having to do this. Owlcam needs to fix this issue. I'm subscribed for the year but don't feel like this is worth getting. The concept is great but I'm not satisfied when it doesn't work.
It sucks. I can't get it to download to either of my phones. I have to repeat ok presto several times before it will produce a clip. Then it says it didn't hear a title. I have little faith the other features are working correctly. I installed the app on a Galaxy S9 and on a new MOTO. It has reduced the ability to of both to connect and remain connected with my car's Bluetooth.
I really like the Owl cam. Pros: it was easy to set up (I like the choice of brace sizes), easy to get connected, fun to watch remotely. Cons: I wish there was a way to retract or tuck the really long cord somewhere. When my car gets serviced, I have to rearrange it again to prevent stepping on it or having it clutter up my dash. I also wish for somewhat less sensitivity of the alerts: having to scroll through and delete the 17 clips every day is a pain. Enhancement request: Batch delete, please
Love the camera quality and features. My biggest pit fall is that there will be times, more likely than not, where the camera is not recording my drive until 10-15 minutes into the drive. This was not a cheap investment and if I get into an accident when the camera isn't rolling it will be a waste of money. At the same time the camera isn't rolling it seems it's not connected to power at all. App will say it is offline so I cannot remote access the camera.
This was a great product until the original company, I'm assuming, went bankrupt and a new one took over. It seems like there's less features now (no Owl-911 assistance, no longer doing facial recognition of the driver, no alerts when someone gets in the car). Supposedly, Owlcam will work without the LTE subscription (now $20 a month for unlimited when the competitors offer plans starting at $10 a month) by utilizing Wi-Fi but this did not appear to be the case for me. Can't recommend.
App is a nightmare to use when you actually want to retrieve video. The hoops one has to jump through just to download a video to your phone are ridiculous, and often times fails anyway when connected directly with wifi. Notifications are always delayed and useless in terms of catching a break-in I'm progress. The Bluetooth pairing does not work as it should, aka I'm not supposed to be notified of a disturbance and blinded with bright lights Everytime I get in my own car. Fees are outrageous.
Android app is almost as good as the iOS version with ONE exception. The only way to offload video you'd set aside for download from the OK Presto clips to 1 to 5 minutes clips, is through the Android share option. There's no way to offload videos directly to your device, like on iOS. Definitely a flaw when you need to pull footage and you can only send it somewhere, i.e. Google Drive(didnt work), Google Photos, Samsung Cloud Drive etc., and not save your device.
So far the app has been great and no crashes using my Pixel 2 XL. I also have an iPhone and it does work a little faster on it but I use the Pixel mostly and found it easy to deactivate it from the iPhone and activate it on the Pixel. After trying a few cams I settled on the Owl for it's ease of use and notifications with pictures and videos. I've had no problems receiving them. I'd really like to see support for more then one cell phone, at least notification to multiple numbers and notifications on my computer or my smart home system.
The old LTE service was 110% cheaper and 100% more reliable. App takes a long time to connect to your camera if it does at all, notifications are very delayed, current view picture is seldom current, app must be uninstalled and reinstalled every couple of days because things just randomly stop working. After the incredible price increase for service, you expect a working, reliable application/service and at this point you will likely have neither.
The hardware is great, as many reviews state, but the Android software is bad. Wasting credits while waiting for downloads of video from the cloud, and sometimes they never show up at all. You lost those credits but you can contact customer support and they will apologize and offer you more credits that will expire end the end of the month. I had high hopes while waiting for this camera but it lacks proper Android support. Will update this review if the short comings as sorted and fixed.
Worse customer service I've ever experienced. I tried calling multiple times, leaving voice messages, emails, and sending help tickets. The camera overheats, the app will not connect for WiFi Direct Connect. And both the camera and app constantly error out and shut off. Waste of money and they couldn't even honor the 1 year of free service... and now they want to use cheap email scare tactics to lure you onto purchasing the service that is more than doubled what it was!
This app isn't the best. Unable to go live on camera always says it can't connect cause of hot conditions even on 60 degree weather. another issue the camera can't keep a steady signal always loosing connection. I like what they are trying to do with this dashcam but they still need to work on it. They shouldn't even be selling them. Might return it.
Just got this in the mail this morning. I mainly wanted it for the park mode to help aid with vandalism. It hasn't detected motion at all I've been testing it all day, the app is the only way to access video history and most of the time it's not loading so you can't view the footage plus when it doesn't detect motion it doesn't record. I've literally got into my truck and it stays dormant. For as expensive as this is plus a monthly payment I expected way more than this. Going to return it.
