Owlet (beta)

Welcome to our new app. We are still in public beta and would love your feedback. Drop us a line at [email protected] with any improvements you would like to see!
Owlet is designed to alert you if your baby stops breathing. It uses hospital technology, pulse oximetry, to monitor your baby’s heart rate and oxygen levels as they sleep at night. Just place the Smart Sock on your little one’s foot before bed and Owlet is designed to send you alerts about their well being from the Owlet Base Station and your smartphone.

Use the app to view your baby’s live heart rate and oxygen levels and receive alerts about their well being. You can also adjust the Base Station alert volume, live chat with an Owlet expert, upload a new Wi-Fi network and catch up on your baby’s fun facts. Not to mention you can check in on your little one’s well being from the store, work or even across the world!

the device has been excellent. the app has been terrible. when the sock has a poor connection it sets off an extremely loud alarm, but it does it repeatedly, over and over each second or two. this is not just a glitch, it does this on all 3 phones we have used, for every alarm. One morning I forgot to turn off the base station before removing the sock. The alarm on my phone went off 58 times. I had FIFTY EIGHT notifications in less than 2 minutes.

Very annoyed with this app. Every single time I go to use it, it says "App searching for base station". I have to reset it everytime. I've uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times, but continue to have this issue. When it connects it gives me a great piece of mind and I love being able to see my little one's stats. However if I could return it I probably would.

Overall the hardware and app are awesome. The app is ok but pretty limited - on startup it can spend 30s finding the base station; which causes a bit of anxiety if you want to check everything is ok. The app only shows the current reading and not historical data - which is disappointing. The warning system for adjusting the sock position is a little harsh. causing a few frights at first but after attaching a few times we got a good fit. There's a lot to improve but it's a good start.

constantly "connecting to base station" or it tells me the base station turned off. The base station hasn't made any noise or sound and is still glowing like it is turned on so I assumed it was still working. what is even the point if it randomly turns off in the middle of the night? and now I have to set it up all over again on a new app but it is the middle of the freaking night. this thing has caused me to lose a bunch of sleep over the last month staying up dealing with technical issues.

The app rarely works. 95% of the time it reads "app searching for base station" so you can't view the oxygen levels or heart rate or alarm types. If you unplug the base station, then the app usually resets and you can view the readings for a short time until it once again can't find the base station. It is not an internet connection issue. The sock and base station still work regardless of whether the app works, but it's disappointing that the app is basically useless. The sock is great though!

The sock is a great concept but the app needs serious improvenent. It's always "searching for base station" or telling me that it isn't on. Some nights I spend an hour just trying to get it to work. I can't tell you how many times I have completely unplugged the base, restarted my phone, and reinstalled everything. We were really excited at first but since have been dissapointed.

love the Owlet but the app is a pain. 85% of the time i open it, the screen declares it is "looking for the base station" or that my base station is off when, in fact, it's 100% on. it corrects itself usually in about 30 seconds, but what's the point of having "live" readings if 85% of the time i have to wait to see the damn readings? other than that i like and appreciate the app- easy to use and cool graphics.

I've recieved 38 notifications in the last day that the owlet has a low battery. It only started to occur after a recent update. I would hope you use some sort of program unit testing on a product like this. Additionally, what's with the random messages when you first start the app? Sometimes it's "base station turned off" other times its "searching for base station." There's no consistency. Other than that 5/5 system, sleep much better at night.

For the price I would expect a lot fewer technical problems. I have to reconnect it to wifi every few days (our wifi is fine), or else have to unplug/reset the thing because the app can't find the base station. Inevitably these things happen at midnight when I'm trying to fall asleep as quickly as possible, presumably like every other user of this product. It's so frustrating to feel like I have to worry about it failing while we're all sleeping that we might look into alternatives.

It just crashes on the loading screen. Before now i was also getting a ridiculous amount of notifications at a time whenever the battery was low or it was having difficulty getting a reading, but it wasn't that often so i just dealt with it. Now the app doesn't even work. Earlier today the hub was sounding off with a blue notification and i had no idea until i walked into the room. I'm glad it was just a blue notification and not a red one.

The product itself is AMAZING. We did not get a good night sleep until we bought our owlet. Note that if you have to reconnect your sock to your base station there's a trick to pushing the buttons on the back. As for the app, it is not great on android. It's slow to get readings, send notifications, and always says "app searching for base station" but I suppose it's still worth it for the peace of mind the product gives.

**Update: We are back to having issues with the app. It inconsistently connects to the base station. ** Original Review: We used to have problems with the app connecting to the base station daily but it seems like a recent software update has fixed the issue because in the past month we have had no issues. However, I wish that the parameters could be adjusted.

The owlet let's me sleep with less stress and anxiety. The sock has never fallen off or had connectivity issues, except when we forget it's on and go out of range. The only reason I am giving it 4 starts is when there has been an alarm triggered my phone will only alert if it is awake/I'm using it. The base will sound, but not my phone. I also have to close out of the app frequently, because it says the base is turned off.

The ability for the base station to keep connected to WiFi is awful, as is the app itself. We regularly get a "Sock disconnected" warning (even though our baby is sleeping in the very next room, through an interior wall that is just sheet rock without insulation), to which my wife and I each get 40+ notifications on our phone. Originally, the sock gave us a sense of peace of mind, but lately it's been causing more frustration about the attention to troubleshoot than anything. I'll try the new app, but I'm not optimistic.

The app is simple and does the job, but there are some things we wish were different. I wish it saved and tracked data, and the app interface is odd -- what looks like graphs that should function are non functoning graphs that display the current stats. I also wish the base staton told you the stats and that everything wasn't phone based. But, the app is average, which is why I give it there stars, and works just fine.

Many bugs... Since this is a review of the app only I scored it low. As far as I can tell, the base station and sock communicate and work well. The app on the other hand is a different story. Unless I'm actively in the app and refreshing it, it doesn't appear to stay connected to the real time readings. The base will alarm for improper sock fit and the app doesn't notify me until about 5-10 minutes AFTER I already resolved the issue. The app is constantly saying the base is turned off when it is not. Now, the app signed me out and won't let me log back in for some odd reason. Please fix these issues so I can have some peace of mind that this product is actually working.

this product does what it needs to but someone else needs to make a competing better one. this company obviously has no intention or ability to fix the bugs and flaws. it's been around for quite some time and still feels like a beta product. I would not recommend this to Android users since many features are only available to Apple. Android will show you (sometimes) heart rate and oxygen when you open the app and the alarm on the base will sound when they go out of spec, that's it.

Mel. M. Oct 16, 2018

Has issues connecting to the base, sometimes the base turned itself off too. Also the fact that I can't set parameters for the alerts. O2 below 90% causes brain damage, it shouldn't be at 80%. Android users should get fair treatment! And there should be an option to make the app play notifications even if the phone is on vibrate akin to alarms going off when on vibrate.

It does it's job and is pretty easy to setup. However, I have an S7 and the app is pretty sluggish. Sometimes have to wait almost a full minute after opening the app just to look at the current readings. Now the app appears unusable. Simply says login failed and password was saved and unchanged. Unit is glowing bright on and off..
