Oxford Dictionary of English

Excellent even with the upgrade nag screens. It's a pity that the Oxford dictionary for PCs in the (UK) Microsoft Store is an older version than this with fewer new words, as it would be great to use this more up-to-date Android version on a Windows PC too (without having to use an Android emulator like BlueStacks as I do now, which is slow and cumbersome).

While I believe it is the best dictionary out there, the user interface of this app is terrible. Not only that, you have to pay $5 a month for basic features such as audio pronunciation, content updates, and "unlimited dictionary use". Ads are also very disruptive, moreso than other apps. If these issues were fixed, I would switch to this dictionary app over Mirriam Webster (a not as comprehensive dictionary with an excellent user interface). The customer service is really good though.

The free version is completely unusable being innundated with ads. And to purchase, only a subscription is available, you can't buy it outright, so your stuck with a recurring fee. If you use the app for 5 years, you'd have to pay $100. Twice the price of buying the hardcover version.

Edit: Thank you for you reply, if the ads could be more consistent (not randomly popping up after a single action) and maybe be limited to the top and bottom of the screen and continues, this would help the app be more usable while also be being hopefully profitable (I'm not sure about that side of things)

The ads are so annoying. I just wanted to look up a word... Can't use the offline mode unless I bought subscription. Bad experience. There are a lot better dictionaries out there, no point of struggling with this one. Uninstalled.

I am having trouble downloading the dictionary to use offline. I bought the app a long time ago (it cost about $15 AUS) so I don't know if I have the premium version. I used to be able to use the app offline on a previous phone. Are you able to help? I love the dictionary by the way, it has everything word I ask ! Thank you. Beware...Bait and Switch. Advertised as free. It's a 3 day free trial. Then $19 a year. There are true free dictionaries online. I had better not get billed for not keeping this blatant rip-off.

As others have said, this is ridiculously overrun with ads. I prefer the oxford dictionary but chose to uninstall after a few minutes of use because the ads were so pervasive.

Far too many ads considering the competitors out there. Delays in loading times for searches (probably due to loading all the ads), especially to load the same page after closing the screen and reopening it. Sad to see the Oxford name sink this low.

It's much much faster for me to copy a word from moonreader app, exit app, open browser and paste it in than it is to forever wait for your app to produce a result if it does so at all. Used to work acceptably years ago. No longer does

No audio pronunciations without subscription (Very Expensive too) Annoyingly reverts to their upgrade page at every opportunity... Installed and uninstalled it within 2 mins tops! Nb. There is a 3 day free trial offered but then... I usually pay for apps that I keep, use a lot, are user-friendly but this DOES NOT tick any of those boxes whatsoever. Very disappointing

I understand the needs for ads when I'm using a free version, but after the ads are finished I have found it hard to clear the leftover ad to get to the dictionary.

Oxford Dictionary is a name of trust , otherwise Google is faster and free. The app should not be free but Mobisystems is a greedy company ,it is making money of everything possible. The price is too high, PKR 3250 is too much and that is annual fee only. Ridiculous. 490 PKR per month , the app is hardly used 5-10 times per month. Just decrease the price and it should be one time fee. Otherwise, Merriam Webster is providing great services , minus too many adds.

There is too much of ads right after opening the application . The application is more about ads then giving information . "Highly not recommended " The very moment I started the application the ads starts popping up.

This app is terrible , u have to be connected to wifi for just a simple search , even if u purchase the full package , I hate that u still can't go offline.

Excellent resource! Invaluable when this American reads historical novels set in England. Helps w/Aussie slang, too.

I can understand showing some ads to gain some profit, but not having pronunciation in the free version? It's not acceptable for a dictionary at all.

The best dictionary I know of. Definitions are given using the most simple words that can accurately be used, so I don't end up on many long word chains.

Great Dictionary App! The OED has long had a stellar reputation. Judge for yourself if that reputation is well deserved. The App can also be used Offline, which is a plus.

When we open a dictionary, it should be open its screen all the time because we have to open it manually every time we search for words. Please keep it display at all times.

Review deletion is unethical. Make a better app if you dislike one star reviews. Subscription apps are not to be trusted. Developers stop development of subscription apps all the time while continuing to collect fees. Do not pay the absurd price for this app on your device that is connected to the internet where you can access dictionaries for free. Do not pay developers who have low reviews removed from the store. This review has been saved and will be reposted every time it vanishes. (3 now)

This has too many adds. I can't even use it properly. Even Google is better than this. And there is this premium at everything. I would have given this a 0-star if that was even possible. very disappointing.

Seems like it's fixed. No more "buy premium to get access to full dictionary". Ah, well. It's a nice dictionary with all I need.

Great app. Though I wish the search box could ignore some punctuation marks, it should be present on top of the definition section so that the user can adjust the word without having to retype it, the back key sends the user back to a blank search this makes it laborious if one wants to search a related word since you got to do the whole typing again. How about retaining the word in the search box? Thank you.

All you want in a dictionary. I only wish you could search for the same word twice in a row without having to re-type it.

The app doesn't allow syncing of favorites over multiple devices. If this feature is available, I wouldn't mind taking up a yearly subscription.

it is a very worst app in ever I see. this app is for studying or playing ad. all the time is coming only ad. I am thinking this is not a dictionary a app of ad 😡😡

I really love your oxford Russian-English dictionary, and I'd have no problem buying this app, but it looks like there's only a subscribe button. I know that subscriptions mean more consistent income, but I hate ads, and I hate "poking holes" in the bottom of my already thin wallet. I'd much prefer to pay once up-front for a version now and pay for an updated edition in the future. Please let me know if I'm missing a non-subscription option!

Whenever the dictionary would update, all of the words in my favorites list would link to the wrong word. This happened to me twice. First time, I reported the issue and contacted support. They couldn't fix it, so I just went one by one and fixed each word. It just happened again, and now I have nearly 200 words in my list, and chose to uninstall instead of wasting my time knowing it will probably happen again. That being said, the dictionary itself is good.
