As against its Oxford name and price, it is only a slightly average dictionary. First of all, the font size is terrible. To give many different info about the word (definition, examples, categories...) is an useful feature (which could be enriched with more examples, anyway....), unless making all of them same font size. Only making a little bold/normal contrast is not enough for quick usage. Secondly, the lack of speech feature is so disappointing. Thirdly the switch between the eng/ger translation direction again such a lose of time. And doesn't work so efficiently. For instance when type your word and than change translation direction, you need to at least delete a letter to make it search that word in the new dictionary. When you make switches so often, may be frustrating.
The content is fine, although missing German words pronunciation, but the app quality is really low. The app is nowhere close to production quality, undergrad project level at best. The search feature is mostly broken. I need to remove and readd some characters so that it finally shows me the result. Everything is tappable, which very often takes you to a "not found page". The search by image is ridiculous, the OCR seems almost random. There is a "favorite" feature with no export functionality.
The "word of the day" feature in this app is the worst ever. It keeps sending useless notifications, and you can't simply see the word of the day by sliding the notification down but you have to open the app. When you do so, expect to see nothing more than an add, upon closing which the word you were looking to learn would've simply disappeared. The select & find feature is horrible too, it pops up each and every time I copy something from anywhere, and it's never helpeful.
Tap to Translate doesn't work (Pixel 3 XL, Android 10). Please fix. My continued top-pick for German-English dictionaries is Pons Wörterbücher which has a much better (though still not perfect as definitions don't wrap properly in Android 9 & 10) interface. For example, their Clipboard Lookup mode is fantastic for looking up many words in one go. Collins German English dictionary hasn't been updated since 2014. The free dictionary apps (e.g. Wiktionary wrappers and all word-for-word lists such as Leo, dict.cc, etc) have too many limitations -- either not enough words or missing usage to bother with using. Also by the time you get to the C1 and C2 level you should rely primarily on German-German dicts such as Duden, Pons, etc.
All three of the Oxford dictionaries that I own are excellent. But every time I replace my cell phone and load the apps onto the replacement phone, they want me to purchase the apps all over again. These clowns need to straighten out their copyright issues, and their failure to do so for the last several years is REALLY REALLY INEXCUSABLE!
I can't use it at all, always there is a warning that you should buy premium which covers all the page, when I click to get rid of it,the dictionary closes !!! Even with the flight mode on, on the dictionary!!! Why? If you wanted us to buy premium, why it is free which is not and not usable !!! So unsatisfied with it !!! Don't install it
I've paid for the content and that is fine, but the app itself is terrible. The search kind ot works, but if you mistype and then correct your mistake it will never find a word - you have to clear the whole word and try again. It makes the whole app difficult to use. It appears as if the developer has poor QA. When the content has to paid for I would expect better - I've seen free apps that are better.
This app is worth every penny, and even more. I've been using it on Nokia Symbian phones, and it served me fantastically. Offline, huge database, nice interface, rich options and nice way of immersing you into learning new stuff. You can't go wrong with this app, I can say it's definitely best app for me in my long experience.
The app works well. It is fast and easy to use. The dictionary provides gender of nouns and examples of use with both german-english and english-german mode. Would be perfect if they add audio and verb forms.
There is no German aural pronunciation on the google app. There is on the ios app. Very annoying. Apart from that, the dictionary itself is really good. Much easier to use than a book.
no verb conjugation. asks for permissions. no automatic search - you have to manually switch from English to german and vice versa. it won't just search for what you're looking for. deleted right away
Crashes after 30 seconds of use. Enough time to look up a word but not to read the definition all the way through. Too bad because it's an alright app
I ve been using the App Linguee up to now, but if u are looking for a good dictionary which explains in which context a certain vocabulary fits best u should go for this one, Linguee is good if u only want a short and precise translation
Searching is really terrible Some words are not found if searched as whole word but they appear if you remove 1 or 2 letters. No conjugatjons in this application. No pronounciation. I strongly suggest not paying for this.
Worst app, its not from Oxford. Every day you have to download the offiline content, and then god knows where it goes. Next day you will again download the offline data. Poor interface and its not the genuine oxford product.
Good database but unfortunately you are not able to have an account to restore your saved data when you want to reinstall app or upgrade your phone!!!! Very big bug :(
Simply returns blank results after searches, and keeps prompting me to switch to the offline version. Useless.
Everytime I am looking for a word, a pop-up window shows me annoning advertising not allowing me to check the content I need with no option to say no thanks, just buy the oxford services to go on.
I paid for 4 dictionaries from Mobisystems and all 4 can't find the license. The apps ask for payment again. Mobisystems had my previous post deleted. Fix your license system and I wont need to leave bad comments Mobisystems.
Wouldn't be without it. A good alternative to a pocket German-English dictionary - being on my phone, it's more compact.
The application is not running properly whenever I search and click the results application automatically stop working and get back to home
Easy to find words and their translations. Entries contain example usage which is useful.
The worst app, total waste of time. I have installed it and without doing any thing, it says your free trail is over. What the hell is this?
It needs 2 more features: 1) sound of pronunciation (words, phrases, and sentences 2) regular & irregular forms.
Excellent combination of large vocabulary, good contextual examples and IPA pronunciation guide. Well worth the money.
Annoying interruptions to upgrade, and frequently goes blank instead of showing results.
I Paid a lot for this dictionary and assumed it would be as good as my Oxford English Italian equivalent. IT IS NOT!
Tremendous app. Look and feel us excellent. I would like one additional feature, to export favourites into a SRS.
Dictionary is good, but the app not that much. I really miss the possibility to choose to which 'favourites' file I want to add a new favourite word to.This needs to be done manually after marking the word with the ⭐ as my favourite. Moreover, there is no drag and drop possibility for it, you have to use Move To, then Favourites and finally the file itself. This is very annoying. If I were on a lower German level, I wiuld miss pronunciation as well.
