palmie

Palm oil is in nearly everything – it’s in close to 50% of the packaged products we find in supermarkets, everything from pizza, doughnuts and chocolate, to deodorant, shampoo, toothpaste and lipstick. It’s an extremely versatile oil that has many different properties and functions which makes it so useful, but palm oil has been and continues to be a major driver of deforestation in some of the world’s most biodiverse forests, destroying the habitat of already endangered species like the Orangutan, pygmy elephant and Sumatran rhino.

A solution was needed…
The story of Palmie began when founder Christopher Rawlings visited Borneo and was able to see first-hand the damage of unsustainable palm oil. On a bus journey along the top of the island, acres of forests had been cleared which destroyed the homes of local fauna and flora.

Palmie is a solution to the problem. It lets users scan items to see if the product contains palm oil and if so, whether the palm oil in the product is sustainable. This lets consumers make better purchasing decisions and ultimately promotes the use of sustainable palm oil in products.
