Paranoid for Android

Paranoid for Android analyzes all the apps installed on your device to identify apps which could be spying on you. It does this by analyzing the combination of permissions granted to each app.

For example, an app which can determine your exact location is fine: an app that can determine your location and report it back to someone else using SMS or the internet is more risky. A well-known messaging app which also tracks your location and your phone calls for no valid reason is definitely questionable, as many people have only just discovered.

This is a free app: if you like it or find it useful, please consider buying me a coffee (in app purchase) to encourage future development.

This is a handy tool to have on your phone. It keeps you from having to go through each and every app to check permissions and then decide whether the app actually needs all permissions requested. Sometimes I would not think an app needed a permission that come to find out it had good reason for it. Just simplifies by analyzing those things for you then makes a recommendation based on what it finds. It doesnt remove anything or turn off any permissions. This just gives you the info you need to make that final decision of whether or not to delete the app yourself. Saves me TONS of time from investigating. Thanx developers! A+ to you!

Pretty good! Got it for the interpretation of complex android permissions and it didn't disappoint! I _was_ looking for a permission the author hadn't thought of - clipboard access - but I was still quite pleased. This is much easier to use than the built in permissions explorer. For each permission it covers, you can see an explanations for it, which is super useful since some of these map to things one wouldn't expect. I like this concept a lot, and hope it catches on 😊

Totally disappointing, and the help page is uninformative and misleading. It led me to believe that there was a way to list applications, not by specific permissions, but by any uncommonly broad and/or questionable permissions. This has just a list of abilities and selecting lists apps with permissions to do that. There's very few choices, and you can't even select a bunch of permissions to show apps matching. Android has better way to select any permission and list apps. This is useless IMHO

I love the main functions and idea behind this app, and it has performed both accurately and responsively in every detail. I'm slightly confused as to which apps I should allow to have certain permissions, because I may have just declined certain permissions from all apps in areas I felt no app should have access to without the knowledge of the phone owner/user, but that is not at all this apps fault, as it is my lack of smart phone knowledge anymore these days. Thanks for the app!

So, I found a 2gb folder that had copies of all my jpeg pics in it... Not sure why ..there was even new recent stuff from when I wasnt using the app. Found it using disc space explorer, and open as photo in xplore file manager. Android/data/com.alison research. paranoid. Photo cache / each file was abound 1.5mb all numbers,no file extension 2gb total. Guys website kinda talks about the virtues of data mining... It maybe somehow be a function of the app... but im not liking it

Quickly check app permissions and canned reports by permission and priveledge type. . interesting what you will find.. many apps on your smartphone have unnecessary access as well as elevated priveledges that are not needed by the app in question. - why would a live wallpaper or screensaver need access to phone, contacts, gps if its only flipping pics to display. Many apps are elevated beyond need by far including some system apps.. makes short work of system priv checks and verifications. nice

I really enjoyed this app and it does exactly what it says. and it does not ask you for any permissions it's only informs you of other applications on your phone that are asking for permissions that maybe a little bit suspicious and you can take a look and decide for yourself whether or notyou would like to decline permission or altogether remove the app. This was a helpful app that informed me of third-party apps that were collecting my information without me even realizing. A+ 💚

It's the same thing I can find out under apps. I don't need this to know that I blocked all the apps I didn't want to do things. It still bring them up for you to see. But if you go under ( settings) "apps" click on the one you want to check out. Look under permission and click on or off for each. Your phone will ask you to turn them back on if you go to use that app in that way.

Thanks. Gold star. Now I'm paranoid. With no way to change that, as apparantly I am unable to find ANY means by which to change even just the 3rd app permissions on a Samsung S4 and all the built-in apps, including those rendered obsolete, refuse to be dislodged or dismantled. Oh Wo me.

The more you know about your phone, the more control you have over it. Paranoid gives its users the clarity needed to make good downloading and permission decisions with their apps, allowing users to protect their privacy! Easy to use, easy to read, and the app is VERY accurate in its descriptions. An app well worth downloading in this user's opinion.

I like the app idea, but I feel like I'm overwhelmed by the fact that unless you just give up using your phone. You will never get ahead of the best offerings of Android. (sic) I wish that Samsung and Google would take a consumer friendly approach to apps and services. Fat chance that will ever happen.

Wildly inaccurate: reports many apps as having permissions they do not have, meaning that it's pretty useless. I am extremely careful about what permissions I grant to apps. I won't even install one that requires permissions I don't see why it needs. Unless there are permissions that are not visible from the app manager, I'm sure that all the apps on my phone have the bare minimum permissions they really NEED -- and if there are such invisible permissions, I can't modify them, can I?

Well I originally downloaded this thinking it was Paranoid Android by Radiohead....I download all my music on the Google Play store you see. Anyways, it wasn't exactly what I thought it was....but it's still a very useful app!

What an incredibly thoughtful and easy-to-understand app. You know every time you download an app and you have no time to read all the consent. And even if you did to what you're signing to agree to it's in legal ease. This app breaks down exactly what each app does on your phone. In simple language. They say knowledge is power and it's also way to keep yourself a being paranoid. Thank you creators of this app . I appreciate your hard work

Most of the apps listed won't actually do anything without your approval, but you don't tell people that. Some services just need access to stuff to work, it's not complicated.

Nice. Makes it easier to go thru permissions and informative. Pretty good points & sources too. I've heard "idc I have nothing to hide" countless times lmao. Fu€k that. Also, Paranoid is a PERFECT name, paranoia has got me very far and safe when it comes to this stuff(and no personal records online). Props.✌

Does what it sets out to do but doesn't offer details of app's attenpts to exploit permissions. Just shows apps' permissions so this app will probably become obsolete in phones supporting more recent versions of Android which can natively perform this app in greater detail. 5/5 stars for making you read my horrible run on sentence....also for this app's functionality

I liked it at first use. but put my phone down for 3 hours. when I opened phone to see why I haven't been hearing any notifications, the dreaded "NO SIM CARD DETECTED" was present. so I uninstalled, reboot and voila. problem solved.

it's a great app. Gives lots of info on apps. The only thing I don't like is when it says that it doesn't have a description for a permission but finds it harmless. If it can't tell me the description of the permission than how can it know if it is harmless or not. Other than that this is a really great app and I will be sharing it with my friends and family. Bravo!

Does not accurately show apps with permissions. Drill down to the app and it doesn't list the permissions that are alledged, even at a high level.

Jas. S. Oct 24, 2018

Unfortunately device developers has noticed an app that can read apps interactions. So by that being said everything that should be noticed it's all greyed out and can't be changed in the permission settings

I'm not sure if this is the same app I used before but I liked it, this looks the same but has terrible reviews and the icon is different. Same name, did you change your icon? What's going on? I think I'll pass for now.

Mel. H. Jul 13, 2019

does what it says it will, but honestly you can get the same info from your own phone without having to download this app, so I'm kinda confused as to the point of this app...but props for doing what it says it will! which unfortunately, is not a common theme with every app here. so yay for that!

Great app, definitely a must for those privacy oriented few... I've been waiting for an update since I now see many new permissions on some apps that we're not there during the days this was last updated. I hope you are putting the "coffees" to good use!

This App does what it said it would do.. It will list what apps you have downloaded have permission to do, and what ones don't ask permission to do.. I was shocked to see what my downloaded apps could or was doing.. Deleted a few apps after discovering this app... THANKS TO THE CREATOR OF THIS AWESOME APP... IT'S QUITE SHOCKING....
