Pathos: Nethack Codex

A lot of fun, every time I've played this I don't know what to expect. One time I might just have a straight forward dungeon crawler and and end up being over run by enemies. t Then next time I don't make it out the first floor before one of my adventurers goes into a rage and kills everyone else, all because he picked up a cursed item. The games simple graphics can be a little annoying but once you get used to it, the games simple mechanics becomes it's strength.

It's difficult yet fun at the same time. Every new adventure you discover something new. However, there's a huge problem with the game deleting custom heroes and entire adventures whenever you quit and not come back for a while. This still happens even if you save the adventure. In addition, sometimes it freezes when you try to register. Despite these two bugs, the game is a amazing! Edit: I've checked my storage and there was enough space on my device (2 gb free) and on my SD card (29 gb free)

Love the game, but I have one small issue that's making it hard to enjoy the game fully. It seems that the app doesn't go well with Dark mode as it makes the texts unreadable, usually I would exclude the app in the Dark mode option but this app doesn't show in the option so I can't exclude it. So in order to see the text in the game fully, I would need to turn on Light mode which is really annoying. I hope future updates will fix this issue.

This is a great way to get into dungeon-crawler roguelikes, not having to memorize every single button in favor of simple touch controls. However, it is VERY frustrating and inconsistent when trying to guide multiple party members just one level down. Sometimes multiple people will go down with me, sometimes it'll switch control to someone else, and other times just the character I'm controlling will go down, even when using the "Follow" and "Instruct" commands. Not a deal-breaker, but annoying.

I actually can't complain about this game. It's frustrating and punishing, but never once did I think to myself it was the fault of the game itself. There are so many mechanics and builds to explore and learn, you truly get to experience the dungeon how you choose to play, with no cost at all. When you die, it's as simple as making another character with different stats and seeing if that one solves your problem. It honestly reminds me of a classic roguelike game on Sega Genesis, but improved!

I'm totally addicted to this game. My only complaint is that it hides my system bars on me. I can swipe to get them back but... I'm constantly running late since my clock is not always showing. I let my battery get too low since I can't see the charge. Need I really go on? So many reasons to leave it on. At least give use an *option* to re-enable it please. EDIT: thank you that is certainly my biggest issue :)

This is honestly a spectacular game. I have always been fascinated with nethack but needed the more graphical element and this truly delivers. I really hope they continue to add to this game keeping it updated for a long time. It's simplicity goes perfectly with it's complexity. It's a hard game and sometimes it feels like the game itself is out to kill you. But isn't that like real life? This universe wasn't built for us..so we fight to survive against a world that is waiting to eat us alive.

Unbelievable depth for a mobile game, and excellent touchscreen controls to match. If you're a fan of traditional turn-based roguelikes, you can't go wrong with Pathos. Best of all, it's a (regularly updated) labor of love on the creator's part, so there are no connectivity requirements, ads, or in-app purchases, ever!

Game looks like it has a lot of potential, however on the phone my main concerns are when comparing to similar games, I have to go into the inventory each time to cast a rod some type of bar would be nice on the screen for a quick access certain items, just seems a bit slow to access everything

Good game to try. So much content for a new player also a little annoying but fun, definitely you have to experience the game and explore the mechanics before you get to progress the game well. Immortality is one sure key to success. Definitely recommended for anyone who likes dungeon crawling with a little bit of challenge. Also good grinding for nice loots (effects are good but game is hard on descriptions)

This game is an amazing work of love to old-school roguelikes. It's brutal. It's complicated. Yet it's somehow welcoming to newcomers like I was. It's free. Don't write it off. If you're confused about anything, the in game "help" option explains so much. There is also an avid fan base on Discord and Reddit which is also linked in game. The creator frequently responds to players and updates the game with some of them. It's become my most played mobile game since I downloaded it in 2020. 10/10

The best nethack experience on mobile right now. Charming graphics, complex gameplay, and a lot of customization. Honestly all I really want is am option for a more randomized dungeon map mode.

So, I'm not exactly sure if it's only me, but I can only get my character to eat animal corpses. I can't get them to eat anything else either. EDIT: Well, my character still got hungry when I turned them into something different [I did use psychic but changed it to something different again but it didn't work 🙃]. Tbh, I might just need to look at everything again lol.

Great game for roguelike fans. Its simple design, diverse races and classes + changeable art syle makes this game a must have. Only one problem- you cant interact with companions aside from the Mount, Share, and Equip buttons. I want to be able to pet the dog and every other companion.

Great crawler Lowered review. There is a positive of more content in the underground, but there is not enough gear buffs. I am always running with only 1 or 2 equipment improvements, and there is so many things that make me drop, destroy, damage, that I end up playing with normal gear ( not fun)

The game is definitely confusing for players new to the style like myself, but definitely still a fun game, unfortunately I will still be uninstalling it because of the fact I lose interest too fast to be able to read everything, but even though it isn't for me i definitely still think it's worth the 5 stars though!

I rarely rate a game five stars. Pathos is the best Roguelike mobile game I've found yet. Character classes are cool and different; difficulty is expectedly challenging; overall just a really fun game. Definitely will recommend to all my friends.

Wow. Easily my favorite mobile rpg. Real depth, and tons of possibilities. It's also not an easy game, and actually requires you to somewhat think, something which seems to be demanded less and less by games these days..

So far I've had a blast granted I haven't been past floor 7(and that was due to trapdoors) but that's a matter of my lack of skill. One enemy in particular keeps killing me and that's the gas spore.

I'm leaving this review after having my best run in this game yet. My familiar died to i was like meh ill just get this witch to polymorph me into something and ill just go die. BOOM im now a level 32 ancient deep dragon! i start plowing through the floors until i stupidly eat something that turned me into stone. This is a fantastic game and i highly recommend it.

Picked up some cursed levitating boots on the second floor of my first playthrough. Can't reach items, can't uncurse them (1k gold), can't go down ladders. Thought the fountain might do something, nothing. So I guess, don't equip anything you find unless you know you can access and pay to remove a curse.

Excelente game. However, I think the controls should be better, sometimes I click on something and another thing happens. But is an excellent game, I'm gonna keep playing, hope for new update

The controls and rules remind me of space station 13 and caves of qud if you have ever played it or heard of the games it is confusing yet rewards creativity.It is dificult starting out and the dificulty grows over time or levels managing a party is hard but rewarding and when you think you packed enough food your "pack mule" character dies to a hoard of lizards and fleas leaving your party satarving forsed to fead on any flesh that they find while trying to get away form the hoard from earlier

I love the game just wish there was more races for example owlin or a dragonborn or half dragon race would be nice and character models that actually line up with race and class but other than that it's a pretty fun game

Some of the most fun I have yet had with any app ever on mobile. Really fun game, no ads, no in game purchases. Just pure gameplay. Thank you very much!

Fun, but lack of magic casting builds. I mean you can only cast tiles around you..., and too much heavy on searching for food...
