PC Start and Shutdown Widget

This widget allows you to remotely start, hibernate and shutdown your Windows computer.
There's no software running on your pc required, but it needs some configuration (see below), so this App is not for computer newbies!

Important: To be able to start your computer remotely you must have activated Wake-On-LAN in your BIOS. The PC must be connected via cable. It does not work with computers using WiFi!

To wake your Computer vom Hibernation, you must enable this feature for your network card:

1. On the target computer in Device Manager or in the network settings select the network card.2. Click on: Properties3. Click on the configure button of the network card.4. Select the tab: Power management5. Set a check mark at: Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby6. Click on: OK7. Continue to close all property pages.

To remotely shutdown your PC, your firewall must configured to allow WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation). UAC (User Account Control) must be turned off or you have to activate the local administrator account and set a password. The remote registry service must be running, too. And there must be set a permission in your registry (Rights for WbemScripting must be given).

I wrote a batch script which enables everything for you. You can download it from http://www.wurzbacher.org/setupremoteshutdown.zipRun setup.bat as administrator, reboot. You can delete the files after that.

If it still doesn't work please write me an mail to [email protected]

I spend much effort in my apps, so feel free to support me and donate some $$ via PayPal to [email protected]

Note: This app uses the free j-interop (http://j-interop.org) and wakeonlan (http://www.moldaner.de/wakeonlan/) APIs.

I like your app, the only thing is I can't shut my computer down even though I ran your .bat file. I figure its because I'm on win10 so I hope you can find time to help. And secondly, the fact that the widget is 3x1 is kind of weird but I don't know if its possible to create a 2x1 widget with 3 buttons.

I went through all the recommended settings including the batch file (which calls a lot of deprecated commands though). Sorry to give you such a low rating but after spending one hour on this I don't have time for email exchanges. It should work the first time.

Works great, but please resize the widget, it appears to only take up a 3x1 space but actually requires 3x2. Better yet seperate widgets for each function would really be great. I don't need the shutdown command, just wake and sleep/hibernate. That'd be an easy 5 stars.

Good stuff. Be aware that the script is based on the Windows firewall. If using another product you will need to manually recreate the rules in your FW product.

This is literally the only wake on Lan app I could get to work with my computer. Can start my computer from my phone or tablet now. However the shutdown and hibernate buttons do not work but this is less important for my purposes. I'll continue to troubleshoot in order to get this to work.

the widget takes up more space than it seems it should. Would also like an option to remove the hibernate button as I never use this but overall a good widget.

Works like a charm! Windows 8.1. Take care to run the batch file with the context menu "Run as Administrator", not just within your Admin Account, otherwise it won't change the settings and you can't connect.

I've been using the app for quite sometime now, but I've been able to use it only through WiFi and not through the net. My ISP uses NAT and I get a dummy external ip which can't be used to connect my pc through the internet. So I use my internal ip which lets me use the app when I'm home which does come in handy sometimes, but I'd like to know whether there's a way I can connect through the net.

A little rough around the edges, cant edit settings without deleting and recreating widget, not attractive on home screen, perhaps an app with extra settings, features, etc. would make it better, but for what it does, it's perfect, so 5 stars. Download file, run (as administrator) and setup widget. Ready to use

The startup works great. I can't get the shut down to work. I installed the zip as administrator and enabled WMI. Followed the instructions, and I keep getting a firewall error.

It works to turn on my pc but I don't have a shutdown button on my widget only hibernate. It would be better if I could shut down using the app

Ada. C. Jul 12, 2015

Even with the script the shut down doesn't work. Gives a firewall error. Manually verified firewall was set properly no dice. Also no obvious way to control widget look. Disappointing, so much potential.

It is almost what I was looking for. Would like to see an option to standby. If you bring out a paid version of this app with a standby feature I will happily purchase it, and I suspect that I am not alone. Keep up the good work!

But would be better if wasn't a widget. Would prefer an app with stand-alone interface with widgets optional.

I tried to use this app but...

Gör. H. Jun 6, 2014

It can't handle lower case letters in the mac address field. That's why I couldn't paste in my mac address from clipboard... No 'next' button, I have to point in the next field. WOL should work on any computer. Maybe it's possible to make this widget 'turn off' Linux too?

As a developer hats off to developers like u for creating such apps and giving it for free ....long live linux long live android

Jen. M. Aug 2, 2014

followed the list of actions, copy/pasted manual commmands they finished with a OK returned enabled Remote Reg, no success. changed reg key permission, RPC was enabled, WMI enabled.....disabled firewalls completely no change. Note 3, Win7 64.

Startup works great but shutdown does not work. Followed instructions very carefully but still nothing!

Nei. A. Jan 23, 2014

Take time to follow the instructions and both shutdown and start up work without fault.

Couldn't use at all with gal note 2 Because the widget won't save IP settings.

Hello Tommy. It would be a good idea to add a green/red line or dot in widget when the coresponding PC is on or off. Maybe the line "PC:192.168..." should turn its colour. It will be easier for me to find whether the PC is on or off, by just looking at the widget's colour. I haven't tried shutting down yet, WOL works fine. Another advice: widget's name MUST be same as the name in Play store. It was difficult to find it in the list. I expected "PC..." but it starts with "W" in my 96 widget list. Hard to find

Doesnt install correctly. Can't see in my app list. There is no open button on play store page either

this widget is great! simple and light, the wake on lan runs like magic, the only problem is, the shutdown is not working. i have followed your setting steps on firewall and remote registry, but still nothing. any idea? i'm running on windows 7 64bit. thankyou.
