PeakFinder Earth

Amazing app, working very well. But I would add one little more feature to make it a top notch app... I would like to see water bodies names on it ! Lakes and some of the important rivers of the area. Lakes being static, I guess they would be easier to add. They would work as reference points along the view and would also enrich the overall experience.

Ignoring some very minor glitches that sometimes makes you close and reopen the app, PeakFinder is FANTASTIC! Worth the $4.99 for sure. I do a lot of remote mountain biking and the apps serves not only for entertainment, but also an aid to identify your position in the event of an emergency.

Love that it works offline. You can adjust the peaks overlay manually. Unfortunately, I've noticed that with the latest releases the overlay lost accuracy. I align it manually to a known peak but the neighbours have an offset and the shape is way to rounded. Recently peakes that were in the past versions have gone missing after updates.

Completely inaccurate, I live in Washington and I am looking at Mt Rainier and it tells me it's almost a 180° the other way. I did everything I could to calibrate the app nothing works. Kind of defeats the point. At it's peak this app can't find a mountain

Good but problems .. I love Peakfinder but I can't Save photos. It says it's stored but (image size clearly too small 1kB) there is no image there - just a grey square! Sharing an image via WhatsApp does work. My phone is a Google Pixel 4a running Android 12.

Great app to see peak names. Everyone I show it to is impressed. I love the overlay of peaks over the camera. Very easy to use.

Absolutely fabulous.. data is updating with new GPS data for elevations You can't possibly get a more engaging app!! This app only improves with use... what a bargain for an app that incessantly has to interpret new data and views .. Thank God we have this app here.....in Colorado .....

Close but off. The peaks are correctly named but it is not pointed in the right direction. Usually far off or behind me

Way more than expected. Great tool if you live in or near mountains. Brilliant actually.

Getting better with each release. I like the ability to select for peaks over a certain height. Really useful for eliminating clutter. I do have to realign the phone compass almost every day I turn on peakfinder, but no big deal. Might be nice to have a feature to exaggerate vertical relief, since the height differences often look larger in real life than on the screen. Of course that mode would have to be turned off during photo alignment mode. All in all, solid application.

Very disappointed. Sometimes, while in a remote area and no internet, for some obscure reason, the app needs to install some kind of data, which it strangely didn't need to when I left home. Which means that I have no access to any peak while in the mountains, when that happens. Then, even after calibration, the peaks are way off, like it shows me the peaks to the south when I point to the west. I calibrate again. Same result. It's a chance I only lost $6.

I was having similar problems with my PeakFinder, but it turns out many of them were a result of two "operator error" -problems. 1) Never seemed to show the peaks in the direction I was pointing. I could manually match peaks to what I (or the camera) was seeing, but never did it automatically. This turned out to be interference with my vehicle(s) and a magnetic catch. Moving away from both resolved the problem...now lines up perfectly. 2) Wasn't showing peaks near me. Not sure why not (PeakFinder shouldn't need to be told "find me"), but selecting the tiny GPS button in the app snapped immediately to the right surroundings. Really like the height adjustment tool, and getting great labeled photos of mountains here in the White Mountains.

This app is amazing. Beautifully rendered, 3D views (change the viewing angle), lots and lots of mountains listed. It's as accurate as your phone's compass can be when you hold it up rather than flat. I have no idea why anyone would complain about any aspect of this app, it's solid as a rock and does exactly what the description says it does. Definitely 5 stars.

I am so in love with this app!! I have had this app for years and love the way new features are being added to make it easier to use. I love the altitude and distance features and was so suprised when I found that even some of the small hills around where I live had been added. sometimes you need to look carefully at the outlines of the mountains to make sure you're lining them up correctly - but that's not difficult to do 😁😁 ooooh yes! Almost forgot the overlap feature - Finding it so useful.

Great App! It would be great if it was possible to pause the compass once the view is aligned or if the movement was a little bit filtered because (at least on my phone) the peaks overlay is really trembling. Some problem exporting the photos, it seems that the peaks overlay lose the alignment. Otherwise the app works great!

Purchased Peakfinder as a world traveler. So far it has worked incredibly well for my travels, telling me the names in English and the original language (romanized). In Japan, it has told me a great amount of information from small mountains in the distance to large mountains. It gives me a sense of where to go for pictures and hiking. This app has been of great usage and I'm always excited to see new places around me and what they are called. No more guessing, "what's that mountain over there"

great app. one feature that would be nice is to tell you what peak your standing on.

I've found this app disappointing. I've tried using it on several occasions. The AR feature doesn't work well but I'm willing to blame my phone for that. But even when I do it manually, it seems very inaccurate, to such a degree that it's sometimes very hard to correctly identify a peak, especially when there are more than one in close proximity. The representation of the mountain contours are not realistic enough for it to work well. At least in my experience

Beware: Was charged for this app without ever installing it. Had never even heard of it before I noticed the charge. This is NOT a review of the product, it is a review of the sketchy practices of developers. Edit: I have been refunded. Nonetheless, if I had not noticed the charges & complained, the developer would likely have gone on having pocketed money from an unsuspecting individual. Glad to be refunded, but I should not have needed to be refunded in the first place. Deplorable practices.

If you love Trekking, you should love this app. Very useful for trekker. 👍⛰️🏡

This app is awesome once you figure it out. Very smooth. Very up to date. Has thousands of mountains in its directory.

Nice that I don't have to do a ton of research before hikes to know what I'm looking at. Unfortunately picture function is useless, every time I align .the outline with the Mountains and take a picture it's still completely off in the actual picture and it's almost impossible to align it after the fact.
