Right now, my first back up camera failed, so the company replaced it, the problem is that the app even after a force stop, clear cache, clear data, uninstall, power down, restart, reinstall still has the info,(wi-fi network & password) related to the one that got sent back and it can't be cleared out. Apparently, the developers didn't figure you would ever get rid of the original equipment or need to connect a second one.
Works exactly once on Pie. It will connect to camera after fresh installation. Once you restart the app it doesn't connect anymore.
App will not work on my Samsung Galaxy S8 Acitve. However it does work on my old Note 4. Support was not helpful.
Spent 12 hours on it and can't get it to connect. An over-engineered pile of **** is what this is. A big waste of time and money!
This app doesn't even work. It is unable to detect by OBD port.
camera take 3 tries to load backup view, by then you just say forget it
how do I get it to connect to my phone it's asking me for a passcode which I don't have
Pearl Auto please work on the proximity sensors working even if video goes out, and the camera recognizing the car is in reverse and opening the app. To those that have had issues. I would remind you there is almost an unlimited combination of hardware and versions of Android. And that doesn't take into consideration open apps, amount of ram, rooted phones, 3rd party launchers... Etc etc. I can only say that the RearVision so far works as it should with my phone. App opens when attached to the mount, video is crisp and clear, and setup was simple.
The hardware is great BUT the software is thier Achilles heel!!!!! Never ready when you need it the most, takes forever to load and establish connection and ALWAYS, ALWAYS automatically "updating " when you need it the most! Why can't we chose when to update or not update? They took away the best feature, landscape mode, and FORCE their inferior "Driving apps" on you. Why can't we specify our own apps or better yet disable the annoying "Driving" app feature altogether(Obviously they are getting paid by these other useless apps to force their junk on us)!!! If knew about this before I bought it I would have been better off buying a regular backup camera instead. Save yourself time and LOTs of MONEY and buy a regular backup camera it will work INSTANTLY and no time delaying, annoying updates. Now I see that the company is shutting down and we are stuck. Pearl should offer to buy back anyone's unit at full price!
Some have complained that since upgrading to Android Pie the app stopped working. What I have found helps is to go into the Apps menu within Settings and clear both the Cache and App data. Once you do that you can reconfigure the Pearl app and it works again.
DO NOT BUY!!! As a heavy, long-time tech user, I didn't expect to have set up difficulties with a $500 product that says it's easy to connect. The FAQs are useless for my issue and when I use the "call us" button I get a 4 digit number. Update: After using it for over a year video fails and I have to wait for it to recover every single time it's used. Further update: Got a new phone and after unsuccessful call with tech support I've now left 6 unanswered voicemails over several months. FAIL!!!
On my Pixel 2 XL with Android P, the phone has to be restarted every time for the camera to connect. Unfortunately, this company is no more, and I don't think spent a lot of time focusing on Android, so I'm pretty sure my camera is junk now as I don't want to restart my phone every single time I want to use the camera.
According to my mechanic, the ODB device was running my vehicle battery down. I haven't even tried to get any support because I have read several places online that the company has gone out of business. Don't waste your money.
App not working since upgrading to Pie. Since company is out of business not sure if this issue will ever be resolved.
Works but the load time is slow. It usually takes between 3-5 seconds for the video to come up. I tend to load the camera when I get close to my destination to get around the load times. I do wish it could auto launch the camera whenever I am in reverse. Otherwise, it is a wonderful product and works as intended.
Hardware was well built and sturdy, however, the application itself was unable to detect my OBD device. This renders the product completely useless.
Anyone know how to reset the wifi passcode? I tried the take out the obd sensor and plug it back in then wait 2 min and it does not work.
Amazing. Just need to fix on the connection sometimes.
Can't get it to connect (with adapter)
Should give money back!!!!
A few minutes to install is bull#### been in my vehicle for over an hour waiting on updates I'm about to put it back in the dam box and send it back,
The video quality is excellent during both day and night. There was bug in accessing camera several times in previous version, but it improved a lot in current version. Auto launch function works 4 out of 5 times for me when attaching to the magnet mount. I wish the proximity alert will work even without launching the app on the phone
Update: The app seems to have stopped opening with the magnetic clip. I had to manually open the app when I need to reverse, but the app started to push an update to the RearVision, which took a few minutes. I had finished parking long before the update finished. I've been trying to look for a reason to keep this product, but unfortunately I've decided to uninstall the app and return the RearVision. The Pearl RearVision resolves the pain of having to install a hardwired backup-camera. Unfortunately, I'm not convinced this product provides the value for its cost. PROS: 1) Easy install and quick setup. No drilling. No wires. Simple instructions. 2) The most difficult part was deciding where to stick the phone mount on my dash. CONS: 1) The Pearl app does not engage when vehicle is placed in reverse, which is odd for a product priced so high. 2) App lags on start-up, meaning I've usually finished parking before the video feed comes up. 3) Video feed occasionally cuts out while backing up. 4) Object sensor is hit-or-miss; I tested this by backing in towards a traffic cone and managed to bump it a few times.
I received the Rearvision on Feb 20th, so I have only been using the device for a few days. So far so good! I love it. The automatic app launch when you place phone on the mount is awesome. I am an Android user with a Samsung S6 Active and it take only a few secs for the rearveiw image to pop up. I have had no issues yet with the phone recognizing the device's wifi network. One thing I have noticed is the sync happens more seamlessly when the car is started first and then I place the phone on the mount. I am very impressed with the quality of the phone mount and clip. It is not some flimsy piece of crap plastic. I highly recommend setting up the guidelines. The lines superimposed in the display is a good feature. Good job Pearl!
Its good but not great. When reversing the video tears but then settles not. When starting the app I get lost connection. In ready to reserve so there is some waiting around for it.
I love it
Not great but there's some tricks to get it working "mostly". If you're using WiFi make sure your smartphone connects to the dongle first before launching the app because it no longer auto connects. Same with Bluetooth. I also advise to avoid upgrading to Android 10 until you've had a chance to test it on another device you don't plan on using with your backup camera. Good Luck!
