Pen to Print - Convert handwriting to text

Pen to Print is the first handwriting to text OCR app converting scanned handwritten notes into digital text available for edits, search and storage in any digital platform.
Use this unique OCR scanner to scan, recognize and convert handwritten documents into digital text that can be edited, searched and stored on any device or cloud service.
Handwritten notes, such as letters, school notes, diaries, meeting minutes, grocery lists, recipes etc can now be scanned and converted, by our handwriting recognition engine, into text, available for use in any digital platform.

Our unique handwriting OCR (Optical character recognition) engine extracts handwritten texts from scanned paper documents and turns it into digital editable text. Unlike other OCR scanner apps, it is designed specifically to recognize handwriting.

Upgrade to premium plan to edit your text, save it to files, copy it, email it (to yourself or to others), add to Notes, or share on messaging apps available on your device. Then use your text in any word processor like Microsoft Word, Google Docs and similar, or export it to a note organizing app like Evernote, OneNote, Google Keep or similar.
We recommend trying the handwriting recognition first, for free, and only then purchase a premium plan, after seeing the quality of results the app is providing in converting handwriting to text.

Although Digital text is easier to edit, search and store, handwriting on paper is still commonly used, since it's fast, easy and accessible. Pen to Print's handwriting recognition (OCR) is a great solution for those who still like the feel of pen on paper, but want to enjoy the benefits of digital. It is easy to use, fast and affordable.
A perfect solution for students, for study notes, class notes and homework, in high school, college or university.
Excellent for sharing meeting minutes, protocols and other handwritten documents with multiple participants.
A helpful tool for secretaries and paralegals, saving hours of typing.
Well suited for archiving and organizing documents.

Please note:
The success of the handwriting recognition relates directly to the quality of your scan. For best results scan your document in a well lighted area, make sure the paper is straightened and not folded or skewed. If unsuccessful, just try scanning again, it might make all the difference.

The app currently supports Latin script only.
Our handwriting recognition system can convert different kinds of handwriting to text: block letters, cursive and regular script.

Great amount of time and effort are invested in this app in order to provide an efficient quality handwriting to text OCR tool. We hope you find this app useful and enjoy using it. We welcome all feedbacks and always happy to hear from our users.

So far so good, my handwriting is a combination of cursive and block... so never had luck with these things. But omg, this app actually read it perfectly, super fast, from a pencil note in bad light... very impressed. Adding notes from multiple pages ... I think I'm in love! Edit after upgrade: rediculously low price btw... But yep, I'm in love! (I did the edit add-on with the app from a handwritten page!)

This app does an amazing job recognizing my messy hand writing. But where i find it to really shine is on old photocopies of type text. I work with historical documents, many of which are photocopies of old news paper articles. This app is able to correctly scan most of the articles accurately (with FAAARRRR fewer errors than other OCR apps). I find that my edits are basically changing "s" misinterpreted as "8" rather than text scanned like "$/t:||" for still, etc. HUGE TIME SAVER!

It just lets you scan and converts to text fine, but here's the catch, you cant do anything unless you pay, no trial just but or your text just stays there, like sure if i knew it was an only paid app then it would be fine, but placing it as a free app and forcing to buy is deceptive. Poor Google Play control over publishers. The app seems like would work fine but dont download it guys.

Great except that the in camera usage does not allow the flash to be used......i want premium but need the flash before i take the purchase plunge. I'm going for the full $29 if there was flash control in the in app camera And i would tell many people about this great app...because of it has flash..amazing. Without it....sorry but it's just not good enough

It didn't work at all in my phone. It kept showing up "upgrade to premium now". That was absurd! Asking to upgrade to a particular phase of the app. without having a touch of experience with the first phase of it is deceptive.

Technological advancement! Guys are trying Sha. I wish there is a free trial for at least 3 days to actually test the premium package. This trial should inckud all features in the Premium. I am not impressed by what I encountered while using the app

Not accurate at all. & major editing flaw. It takes way too long because I have to edit every single line, 1 at a time; you have to click EDIT for each separate line! Very inefficient. Plus, the accuracy is horrendous. I've done 6 pages & 95% of the lines have to be edited... a LOT of editing. There's no way I can use this app to transcribe an entire journal.

Excellent app! I use a dry erase board to write down groceries. When it's time to go to the store, I just take a picture and it gets it 95% correct. Then you can just edit it if you need. Then, I export it to Google keep so I can erase things off the list as I get them in-store. Takes maybe 10 seconds from start-up to list and works like a charm!

Simplifies big handwritten tasks. For more simple jobs, from a previously created image of plain text, it seems there are extra steps making a task longer than it should. I have arthritis in hands, extra steps count. I paid for the premium version, but for small one-offs I turn to a free app that has ads. I hate ads. So I find that it's confusing to get into this app when I have used another for a while. I recommend it for handwritten text and hope it continues to be improved.

As a novelist who still prefers the old fashioned way of writing, I was really excited to find this app. But I am incredibly disappointed. True to the reviews, it's about 80% accurate. Which means in a single page of 200 words, I'm fixing at least 40 typos. And the formatting is awful. Even though I make clear indents, it makes every single line a new paragraph. Incredibly annoying to have to fix the formatting of every single line of work. It would be faster to type up myself.

This is a demo app. Unless you buy the premium version you can't do anything with converted text. Recognized about 60% of my letters, which was better than I expected, but missed entire lines of writing, and created numerous gibberish words that looked nothing like the original. With the amount of time spent on corrections taken into consideration, I think it would be easier to simply read the handwritten pages out loud using Speech-to-text.

First attempt was brilliant. Id need to write my notes more clearly. Being able to review each word quicker would be nice. Very few issues with the app recognising my writing in obvious areas. And auto spelling correction could be a cool feature. So i paid for it. After that it failed every time. Irested the app. My ohone. Reinstalled it. Took new photos of the note. Honestly. What the hell. 20 mins later i hate it. I want my money back ill just type the damn thing myself. What a waste of my time.

It does a good job of recognizing my handwriting. So it's core functionality seems pretty solid. However, I purchased the "premium" version ($4.99) expecting more features. It really just allows you to export. Not a lot of extra features for the money. I thought it would at least have some sort of list making capability. At least I can export to my notes app now, I guess.

I tried a bunch of PC programs and a few Android apps, looking for scanned handwriting to text conversion. This app has been the most accurate so far. The output is unformatted text, which is sometimes useful, but I wish it could produce a mixture of pictures and text, positioned like the original. ABBYY and Acrobat do that well with scanned printed text, but are unusable with handwriting.

Dyl. Z. Feb 14, 2019

This is the best handwriting to digital text app I've found in terms of conversion accuracy. I have to write neater than I normally do, but it's not bad. I have terrible handwriting. But, the app does not support sharing from other apps, even as a premium user. For example, if tap share in Samsung Notes, I can send to Gmail, drive, Facebook etc., but not Pen to Print. I have to upload to Google Photos, and then pull from Google Photos from Pen2Print. Very annoying every time.

And. T. Nov 30, 2020

My handwriting is legible...sometimes. When it wasn't the poor app was screwed. When it was there was about a 85-90% success. It would place words in the wrong line and cut off bits of beginning or end of line. Trying to write more than notes, for example stories, I wouldn't reccomend it. Notes sure, maybe poetry, otherwise I think the editing would get cumbersome.

Identified my handwriting with minimal errors. However, to export the text such as send over email, you have to upgrade to premium. I have chosen to upgrade to premium. It's a bit glitchy upon opening the app for the first time each day and sometimes loses multiple scans of you want to retake a 'wonky' one so you have to start over. Have emailed developer for troubleshooting tips

I didn't actually believe it would work. With the exception of a few words here and there, this app mostly understands all my chicken-scratches. And my handwriting is not exactly tidy of consistent. HOWEVER. That's where it stops. You can't export it to a laptop or anything without paying. I would rather endure a few adds than pay. I was so excited when it worked, but that quickly vanished when I realised I couldn't do anything once my writing was in print.

I appreciate that time and effort went into the creation of the app. But just as you have placed a value on your time, I value mine as well. So after going through the time of installing and then the processing of an image(which still required considerable editing on my part) only to find that what was put out as a free app requires payment in order to be of any use. This is just disingenuous. You take the time to point out how the app is ad free in the description but make no mention of how it is a useless waste of time unless you're willing to pay for the export. Very convenient that you left that part out. Seems like you're just counting on people thinking that they've invested enough of their own time in doing the conversion that in order to avoid a total waste of time, they'll throw some money at it to fix the problem. I'd rather just uninstall than reward such deceptive tactics.

It works, but with a few errors. Microsoft Translator and Google Lens couldn't do the job. I am pleasantly surprised and I hope to see more of it. Definitely keeping this one Edit:I have used it for a while and it reads things from left to right, so annotations can be somewhat hard to store would be useful if he can detect that

I LOVE this app!!! I've been looking for a OCR app that can change handwritten notes to text for so long now! I have notebooks full of lyrics and poems I've written and want to be able to save in text format so I can search them and so forth and this is perfect. It recognizes your handwriting really well and the editing (if you need to) is really easy and quick. All in all it's perfect for me. I love that you can upload photos of writing as well as take a pic.

I have neat handwriting but God forbid you write in cursive! The comments say they get around 80% accuracy, but in my attempts I'd estimate I got around 10%. I haven't written in print since I was 7 and now it feels cumbersome to even try. I have better luck using the built-in speech to text function on my phone. Even though I still have to go back edit all the formatting it's still 10 times faster than dealing with this chaotic mess.

I don't always have clear handwriting even to the point I can't always read my own writing and this app, actually my first Android choice did extremely well, consistently achieving about 90% or higher. In the time it would have taken to type 10 pages I could convert and fix any errors on 30-40 pages. The only issue I have is that this app doesn't seem to store the saved files even in paid version. Otherwise a great OCR tool, I recommend it

I had a load of handwritten feedback notes to get onto a spreadsheet. Firstly, if you want to do this, you have to buy premium. It seemed to work well at first, but then struggled with reading much of the handwriting. There appears to be no spellchecker type functionality to match to actual words, or suggest edits. Also, it was too time consuming to actually process each note. I ended up manually typing in as it was quicker. Needs to be smarter and quicker to be useful.

Jay. A. Apr 28, 2020

The handwriting I converted was not very clear but the software made a fair attempt. The separation into lines also makes things easier. Problem is although my writing is pretty much a spider's scrawl its reasonably decipherabl to the eye; I have pages and many notebooks to scan - would be a long process converting. Photos and tagging is probably a better option for me. Not a poor reflection on the app but my handwriting! One drawback - without the premium version your text is locked in app...

Ash. C. May 15, 2019

a very useful app, my handwriting is terrible but it still picks up most of it. I definitely recommend installing. side note I had some issues getting the free exports and I contacted customer service they responded within hours and fixed the problem. I am definitely going to purchase the premium soon it's well worth it.

Bri. K. Aug 8, 2020

Free version is nothing but a useless scam! After wasting your time editing converted text, the app gives you no way to copy or export it to another place where it might actually be useful. Might as well just save a JPG of the original document - would be quicker, and you could at least display and share it.

Joh. S. Apr 7, 2020

Not bad. I've tried a number of ocr apps and this one is pretty good. Ivd say it is about 70% accurate with my handwriting (which is inconsistent in size and spacing but is generally legible to most people). If you are willing to buy premium and or do some editing initially it seems like it could be usable by most people.

A.D. D. Apr 30, 2020

Really pretty amazing when you think about it. This app is causing me to rethink my data entry paradigm. Good job. Keep the features coming. EDIT: upgraded to five stars when i realized i could get 100% accuracy by tweaking my scan lighting SUGGESTIONS: 1. have the camera turn on the flash light so lighting will be improved without additional lighting sources. 2. have the scanner produce a jpg copy as well so it could also be uploaded, that way line editing (if any is required) could be done on computer instead of phone
